Exactly. I suppose my main gripe is with women who don’t even try to breast feed. Sometimes it is a challenge, but with perserverence most women can….I suppose that not all women get the pleasure from breast feeding that I did. I found it very empowering. At the time I had very low self-esteem, but breastfeeding made me feel good, because it was something only I could for my baby

here here AnneS .. theres 2 women who can’t b/feed, the one without boobs (surgically removed because of disease or disfigurement) and the one on medications that would harm the baby.
My bible that taught me how to, ‘Breastfeeding Matters’ by author Maureen Minchin. A bit of an extremist, but sound practical help.
And it’s not just a book for mums, the whole worlds population should read this , inc men.

I sailed through breast feeding #1 but #2 was a constant struggle. He just wouldn’t attach properly and feeding became agony. I was very lucky to have lots of support from Nursing Mothers and we did eventually get it right.

Better get this out of chat or the fellas will be get annoyed with us :)

I lived in PNG for three years, I have seen quite a few bare breasts out in public nursing babies (and pigs) and I think it is perfectly natural. In fact I have imposed a ban on Nestle products in my household for the past 14 years because of the politics around infant formula in the third world and Nestle are a faceless pack of <expletive removed="">.

So hip hip hooray for breastfeeding I say.

Oh noes. I haven’t been able to give up onion and garlic to see if it helps with the IBS. Did you have to cut it down for breastfeeding, or cut it out entirely?? All the nice foods have onion and garlic :(

I cut it out , but not entirely, for the duration , which was a year. It was worth it for a peaceful sleeping bub. I couldn’t have raw onion say on a burger, but a little bit of cooked was ok.
But everyones different and another mum had probs with oranges..and another couldn’t drink cows milk. The difference in the nursing baby was amazing.

Champion quote there, RoughBarked…I fed everywhere, by the time my 5th came along I couldn’t care less what people thought…it was enormously common to feed in public before society was “gentrified”…my babies refused to hide behind nappies etc so I had my favourite blouses that hid most of my equipment whilst the grots topped up…

I think that too.

Some want to and can’t. Some start off well and the well dries up!

It’s amazing the variations…one mother told me she had to supplement her milk because no matter how long the babies fed for, or how frequently, she eventually found out she was a “slow feeder” and her babies were knocking themselves out before fully fed…and she became a Nursing Mothers Association consultant!

That happened to us the day we went for the 6 week check up for my #1 (daughter). We were up here in Lithgow staying with Mum and Dad and the obstetrician was in Penrith (hour and half away). Mum and Dad and my 2 younger brothers came with us. We arrived early so I decided to to feed her before we went in. She let loose a #3 and it leaked out of the nappy and all over me. MrS grabbed her and proceeded to change her and clean both her and me up while my dad and my brothers went to the shops to buy me some new clothes for me so that I go into the appointment!!!!!

Augh I never had one that bad AnneS! ROFL here (sorry)

I remember my youngest one decorating the wall and the wardrobe door a rather arty shade of mustard……………..

Don’t worry LOL. I have got plenty of mileage out of that story over the years…especially when granddaughter did her first #3 when SIL was changing nappy…..I couldn’t control the mirth :)

Oh I’ve had that too…#1 was being toilet trained and had a friend visiting (who was a year or two older). Both needed to go to loo at the same time, daughter on potty, friend on loo. While I was tending to daughter, friend was doing “finger painting” on the toilet wall. I was pregnant with #2 at the time and suffering badly with morning sickness…needless to say I there was a “technicolour yawn”

I had one like that, discovered it was because I was eating onion and garlic. One they were out of my diet all settled down.
Maternal diet causes that ‘fighting at the breast stuff’, usually.

Oh noes. I haven’t been able to give up onion and garlic to see if it helps with the IBS. Did you have to cut it down for breastfeeding, or cut it out entirely?? All the nice foods have onion and garlic :(

I remember having to give up coffee and chocolate. Coffee was the hardest to do without.

Well if you’re prepared to deal with lots of “#3“s, go for it…
