Subject: Smoking and coughing

I have made a small discovery with my bong,

it has an extra cigarette filter just near where the the pipe is lit,

but that is not the discovery…

onto the discovery….

that when I leave old smoke in the bong it makes me cough,

that when I use up all the smoke from a toke I get no coughing,

but if I have a toke and leave smoke in the bong next time a have a toke it will make me cough

mix new and old smoke it makes me cough

leave old smoke in there, it makes me cough

but take a toke with fresh new smoke , I get no coughing.

Thoughts ?

I some thoughts

it could be oxidisation

it could be a temperature oxidation thing?

it could be something else.

a breakdown of some kind

particles becoming more entropic ?

You posted this here when you could have gone direct to NATURE or SCIENCE.

God, we are so blessed. Thankyou. Jesus.

You ought to spare your lungs and eat the stuff, like Curve used to do.

Does the filter need replacing or cleaning?

Can’t help there.
OK, I’ll try. Perhaps an increase in particle size as small particles coalesce into bigger ones due to electrostatic and other interactions. Perhaps bigger particles cause more irritation because they come out of the air stream in the throat rather than following the air stream down to the lungs (I call it “momentum dominated impact” in my paper on the effect of smoke in the air on museum specimens).

Leaving old smoke in it can’t be good for it.

Of course I’d implore you to toss the bong away. So I’m probably no use to you. Though I will add this. Clean the thing out after every pull through. New water every time.

stonerrobes, hypothesized microorganisms, live in environments where there’s high concentrations of various THC compounds, bong water etc

Just wondering about the science…

Yes Id like to throw the bong away….

problem is joints or vaporizers create more smoke in the room,

the bong creates less smoke but has water particles in it as well

I have a fan based air filter in the room it has a replaceable / washable filter in it to get rid of the constant particle problem

I know bongs are not healthy.

With a proper clean filter it’s more healthy than alternatives.

the old smoke cools in the chamber
then over-expands when drawn into your warm lung
causing you to cough yer brains out.

clear the chamber by drawing the old cold smoke
into your MOUTH then expel it
before hitting it again with the lighter

duh, basic knowledge gleaned from the 60’s
