Donald and Melania Rump – ill with Covid.
Accident or foul play. Has to be accident, no one would wish them to catch such a disease.
Rump is not the first American President to come down with a pandemic. Franklin D Roosevelt caught Spanish Flu in 1918.

NC pastor yells ‘white power’ from truck during weekend Trump parade, videos show
Hursey faced the racetrack stands. A crowd gathered around. “First of all, I’m a Christian,” Hursey said, his voice rising and falling with a preacher’s practiced cadence. “Second of all, I’m a Republican. And in that order.”
Later the same day, Hursey drove a pickup truck through Elon, shouting “White power!”

I don’t want him to die. I want him to get well, lose in a landslide, go to prison for 20 years, and as soon as he leaves prison he steps on a lego piece and mildly burns the roof of his mouth on a piece of toasted sultana bread that’s too hot.
That’s okey specific, but sure, I’d agree with this. Maybe we are the monsters for wanting long term pain and suffering…. no, it’s the others who are wrong….

I don’t wish him death neither do I wish him life.
What I wish or don’t wish is of no conceivable relevance to the events that will unfold in this matter.

I try not to wish people ill. And I fully agree that I don’t want Trump to be a martyr. I do want to see Trump get sick enough so that people do not walk away with ‘see it isn’t that bad.’ (Most people don’t have 8 doctors and 12 nurses. Most people do not get that level of care. Doctor number one said that with treatment starting this early in the course of the disease all should be groovy. Most people do not get that.)
It reminds me of the question from D&D..Is it possible for a Lawful Good person to assassinate an evil person? Trump has a lot of death on his watch. But many presidents do.You can weigh this against the good done. I am not of the right alignment to murder the president. I am not of the right alignment to wish him death. But I am neutral enough to understand the dilemma and it would be nice if history disappears him and a hero emerges. (Yeah I can’t see that happening either.) (The likelihood is more people dying of Covid and more people dying on the streets.)

The first week of COVID—and in particular day seven to 10—are the most critical in determining the likely course of this illness,” Conley said in an opening statement. “At this time, the team and I are extremely happy with the progress the President has made.”

Yeah, I was just looking at the transcript of his briefing.
As reported yesterday, consultation with this group, I recommended we bring the President up to Walter Reed as a precautionary measure to provide state-of-the-art monitoring and any care that he may need. Just 72 hours into the diagnosis now, the first week of COVID, and in particular day seven to 10 are the most critical in determining the likely course of this illness. At this time, the team and I are extremely happy with the progress the President has made. Thursday he had a mild cough, and some nasal congestion, and fatigue, all of which are now resolving and improving. At this time, I’d like to bring up Dr. Dooley to discuss some of the specifics of the President’s care.

That should never have happened’: Inside Trump’s Walter Reed parade
—-
Afterward, members of the Secret Service voiced escalating concern at what many of the agency’s personnel have determined is total disregard for their well-being amid a deadly and highly contagious pandemic. Agents have tested positive for the virus while traveling for the President’s political rallies, which he insisted on maintaining even against federal health guidelines. As employees self-quarantine or isolate in place, others have been forced to work longer hours to fill the void.
It’s a situation that has prompted growing and more vocal concern.
“That should never have happened,” one current Secret Service agent who works on the presidential and first family detail said after Trump’s drive-by, adding that those agents who went along for the ride would now be required to quarantine.
“I mean, I wouldn’t want to be around them,” the agent said, expressing a view that multiple people at the Secret Service also voiced in the wake of Sunday’s appearance. “The frustration with how we’re treated when it comes to decisions on this illness goes back before this though. We’re not disposable.”
Another veteran Secret Service agent also expressed deep dismay at the Walter Reed ride, though was sympathetic for those around the President given the difficulty in pushing back on the commander-in-chief

Some great news, he’s going home today.
A spokesperson for the hospital said they were relieved he was going, going home that is.
They said all the doctors and nurses and staff helped pack his things and get them outside.
Not only that, the Director of the hospital said that if he had a relapse or an onset of symptoms they would be more than happy to recommend another suitable hospital for his treatment.

(CNN)Two-thirds of Americans say President Donald Trump handled the risk of coronavirus infection to others around him irresponsibly, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS in the days following the announcement that the President had contracted the virus that has disrupted everyday life for millions of people for more than half a year.
With Trump hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, 69% of Americans said they trusted little of what they heard from the White House about the President’s health, with only 12% saying they trusted almost all of it.
Disapproval of the President’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak stands at a new high in the survey, with 60% saying they disapprove. Additionally, 63% say his own infection is unlikely to change anything about the way that he handles the pandemic.

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/10/05/politics/cnn-poll-coronavirus-trump/index.html
There’s been so much news going on that I nearly forgot about the existence of a Supreme Court vacancy when participating in a virtual conference this morning. And in some ways, the news makes life hard for us polling analysts. We have had, in rapid succession: the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a series of threats by President Trump in which he refused to commit to a peaceful transition of power, the announcement of Trump’s intention to nominate Amy Coney Barrett to replace Ginsburg, the release of substantial information about the president’s tax returns by the New York Times, the first presidential debate, the news of Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis and subsequent hospitalization — along with a cluster of other cases at the White House — and now his plans to leave Walter Reed Medical Center later today.
With that said, the debate provides a clear enough line in the sand — with many pollsters planning releases just prior to or just after the debate — that it’s worth doing a before-and-after comparison of the polls. One way to discern this is via our national polling average, where Biden’s lead has inched up to 8.1 points from 7.1 points before the debate:
Another way to see this is by comparing post-debate polls to the last, pre-debate version of both national polls and polls of the same states by the same polling firms. That’s what I’ve done in the table below, covering the 11 national polls and 11 state polls that have been released since the debate. And on average, Biden gained 1.5 percentage points from the pre-debate to the post-debate versions of these polls.

There’s still a limit to how off they can be.
Right now I would say the US polls are on the bubble. 4% is just about the biggest polling miss you could fear. And 4% is just about the biggest assist DJT can get from the Electoral College. At 8%, the lead is such is that you wouldn’t quite choke on your tongue if Trump wins.
If we get to November and Biden has a lead of more than 8%, then he might be just about good.
“Don’t let it take over your lives,” he said. “Don’t let that happen. We’re the greatest country in the world. We’re going back to work. We’re going to be out front.
“As your leader, I had to do that, I knew there was danger to it.
“I stood out front and led. Nobody that’s a leader would not do what I did.
“I know there’s a risk, there’s a danger. But that’s ok. And now I’m better.
“Maybe I’m immune? I don’t know.”
The vaccines were coming “momentarily”, he added.

(CNN)The White House has declined offers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help investigate the outbreak surrounding President Donald Trump’s Covid-19 diagnosis, according to a federal health official.
The offer by the CDC to engage with such efforts as running contact tracing occurred almost immediately after the President made public he had contracted coronavirus. Despite the concerns expressed by those at the CDC, including agency Director Dr. Robert Redfield, officials at the White House turned down the CDC’s offer to help, the official said.

Claudia Conway, the 15-year-old daughter of former Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway, announced on TikTok Friday night that Kellyanne not only tested positive for COVID-19, but was trying to keep it a secret.
“Update my mom has covid,” Claudia wrote over a video of her sitting at home wearing a mask
The teen’s claim quickly circulated on Twitter, as people were already keeping an eye on her TikTok account after she claimed Kellyanne had been “coughing all around the house” earlier in the day, following various people from the Trump camp testing positive.
But another concern came after reading through some of the comments Claudia posted on her own video.
“She told me not to post this but I’m so furious please wear your masks guys,” she wrote

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/10/06/politics/pentagon-leadership-self-isolating-coronavirus/index.html
(CNN)The top US general, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley, and several members of the Pentagon’s senior leadership are quarantining after a top Coast Guard official tested positive for coronavirus, several US defense officials tell CNN.
The Pentagon is “conducting additional contact tracing and taking appropriate precautions to protect the force and the mission,” after vice commandant of the US Coast Guard, Adm. Charles Ray, tested positive on Monday, according to Jonathan Hoffman, assistant to the secretary of defense for public affairs.
Despite efforts by the Pentagon to stress that military leaders can carry on business as usual from quarantine, the prospect of the virus spreading among senior officials who work in one of the world’s largest office buildings will likely raise major national security questions, particularly as it follows a major outbreak in the White House that hospitalized President Donald Trump and after three Republican senators tested positive in recent days.

However, they are not doing contact tracing either. Whitehouse staffers are reporting that they are learning about infected workmates by watching the news. Chris Christie has said that he has not been contacted by the WH in regard to contact tracing.

Well that’s to be expected when the vaccine development organisations don’t consider the White House staff to be valuable enough to be worth protecting.

I’ve been giving you exact quotes bit by bit. The last is that the Russian organisation developing their covid vaccine is now on record as saying that all their staff, including the director, were vaccinated in April – because their staff are so valuable, they don’t want to lose them.

Bullshit bit by bit more likely. Russia’s Sputnik vaccine only became available in August and still there are doubts about its efficacy. You still haven’t provided any evidence as to how you think a vaccine can be developed so quickly or without serious doubts about its safety.

CSIRO animal health is already on record as saying that they had a vaccine the day after they received coronavirus samples from China. That would have been in March. Also on record as saying that they started breeding it up immediately.
There are also the scientific papers describing coronavirus vaccine.

The Russian vaccine for COVID-19
Published:September 04, 2020DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/S2213-2600(20)30402-1
On Aug 11, 2020, Russia became the first country in the world to approve a vaccine against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The vaccine, which is based on two adenovirus vectors, was developed by the Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology (Moscow, Russia). Its approval was announced by President Vladimir Putin. “I know works quite effectively, helps to develop strong immunity, and has gone through all the necessary tests”, declared Putin at a cabinet meeting. Nonetheless, there are widespread concerns that the approval is premature. At the time of approval, the vaccine had not even started phase 3 trials, nor had any results on the earlier stage trials been published.
Since then, the phase 1/2 results have been published in The Lancet. The vaccine induced a strong immune response in all 76 participants. Presumably these results were available to the Russian Ministry of Health. For regulators such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency, however, data on immune response alone would not generally be an adequate basis for approving a vaccine. “Immune response might not be directly proportional to the degree of protection—you can only find this out in large-scale trials”, explains Peter Openshaw, professor of experimental medicine at Imperial College London (London, UK).
The Russian vaccine is named Sputnik V, after the Soviet-era space programme. One person to have received it is the president’s daughter. “She feels well, and the concentration of antibodies is high”, said Putin. “The main thing is to ensure unconditional safety and effectiveness of this vaccine in the future.” Mass production is expected to begin in September, 2020. Russia, which has seen almost 1 million cases of COVID-19, said that it would be able to provide 500 million doses of Sputnik V per year.
“We have no idea whether this vaccine is safe or whether it works”, cautions Ashish Jha, Dean of the Brown University School of Public Health (Providence, RI, USA). “It is really worrying when people start to bypass the standard process we have for vaccine development.” Those behind the Russian vaccine have offered a combative response to such criticism. The official website was established with the stated aim to “provide accurate and up-to-date information about Sputnik V and to combat the misinformation campaign launched against it in the international media”.
The vaccine is financed by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), the country’s sovereign wealth fund. Kirill Dmitriev, chief executive officer of RDIF, has complained that “instead of looking into the science behind the proven adenoviral vector-based vaccine platform Russia has developed, some international politicians and media chose to focus on politics and attempts to undermine the credibility of the Russian vaccine”. Large-scale clinical trials of the vaccine, involving over 40 000 people, were scheduled to begin in Russia in the last week of August. “A number of countries, such as United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and possibly India or Brazil, will join the clinical trials of Sputnik V locally”, noted the official website.
Dmitriev has confirmed that Russia has received international requests for 1 billion doses of its vaccine. On Aug 26, 2020, Russian news agency TASS reported that the country would supply more than 2 million doses of Sputnik V to Kazakhstan. Openshaw points out that the places that have expressed interest in the vaccine are unlikely to start mass administration until they are assured that it is safe and effective. “There is a huge difference between Russia registering a vaccine within its own borders, which it is entitled to do, and international approval or WHO prequalification”, he said.
Countries all over the world have preordered millions of doses of other prospective COVID-19 vaccines, with the rollout contingent on the results of the phase 3 studies. For example, the USA has purchased 100 million doses of Moderna’s mRNA vaccine candidate and 300 million doses of Astrazeneca’s adenovirus vector vaccine. Other countries might choose to make similar arrangements with the Gamaleya Center. Press reports have quoted the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister saying that the country was “ready to consider the possibility of purchasing a Russian vaccine against coronavirus after the completion of procedures for its recognition by the WHO”.
According to WHO, as of Aug 28, 2020, nine vaccine candidates were in late-stage trials. These included separate adenovirus vector vaccines, a couple of mRNA vaccines, and several inactivated virus vaccines. There are plenty of vaccine candidates in earlier stages of evaluation. Experts are confident that at least one of the candidates will be successful. COVAX, a joint initiative between Gavi, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, and WHO, aims to ensure any eventual vaccine is distributed fairly and equitably. 92 low-income and middle-income countries are eligible for support. The initiative is backing a range of vaccine candidates, including seven in clinical trials.
Given the pace at which the candidates are moving through the stages of development, Jha wonders why Russia felt it was necessary to skip straight to approval. “I do not think it makes sense; the difference between doing things correctly and not doing things correctly is a matter of a few months”, he said. “It seems like a very small gain, and the middle of a pandemic is not the time to be cutting corners.” There has been speculation that the approval has been motivated by nationalism. Most countries would welcome the positive publicity generated by being the first to bring a vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 to market. The USA has also invoked the space age in its fight against COVID-19; it named its drive to secure 300 million doses of vaccine by January, 2021, Operation Warp Speed.
If Sputnik V does not work or results in some kind of unforeseen adverse event in the phase 3 trial, that could affect the public perception of the vaccine process. Moreover, an ineffective product could actually worsen the pandemic—those who received the vaccine might stop taking precautions against contracting SARS-CoV-2. “There is a huge risk that confidence in vaccines would be damaged by a vaccine that received approval and was then shown to be harmful”, said Openshaw. A sizeable group of vaccine-hesitant people are already laying the groundwork on social media to discredit any potential COVID-19 vaccine. “We really do not want to make life any easier for those who are trying to undermine science”, said Jha.
On the other hand, it is entirely possible that Russia will hold off vaccinating its general population until it has received favourable results from the phase 3 trial. In which case, the announcement of the approval of Sputnik V might amount to a political gesture, rather than a serious attempt to circumvent the standard process of vaccine development. The FDA has stipulated that a vaccine against COVID-19 should be at least 50% effective. Sputnik V might well meet this criterion. But until the phase 3 trial is completed and the results are made available, it will not be possible to make any judgement. “It is certainly not advisable for any vaccine to be used in an uncontrolled way before it has been through proper testing to determine whether the immune response it produces is actually protective, and there are no unexpected adverse events”, stressed Openshaw.

That is literally impossible. Maybe they are claiming they had a vaccine candidate the day after they received the samples rather than a vaccine?

And he is blasting President Donald Trump for not protesting or punishing Russia for it.
“Not to have the White House aggressively speaking out and protesting and taking punitive action is really quite extraordinary,” Romney told OlivIer Knox on SirusXM radio on Thursday.

Trump today issued a slew of pardons for corrupt politicians, war criminals, and people who were convicted in relation to Trump’s dealings with Russia.
These include
George Papadopoulos, Trump’s foreign policy advisor and one of his key go-betweens for establishing back-channels of communications to the Kremlin. Papadopoulos has already completed his prison sentence.
Alex van der Zwaan, who organised communications between Paul Manafort and Rick Gates and Konstantin Kilimnik. van de Zwaan too has completed his sentence already.
Former Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter. He was convicted of wire fraud, conspiracy and campaign finance law offences, and was due to commence his sentence next month but will now serve no time.
Former Republican Congressman Chris Collins. He was convicted of insider trading and has already served part of his two year sentence.
Former Republican Congressman Steve Stockman who was convicted of 23 felonies related to campaign finance abuses, and also directing charitable contributions towards his own personal expenses. He has been serving his sentence, the remainder of which has now been commuted by Trump.
Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, border patrol agents who shot an unarmed man in 2005. GWB already commuted their sentences, and their records have now been cleaned by Trump’s pardon. Alfonso Costa, a personal friend of HUD secretary Ben Carson, was convicted of fraud relation to overbilling in his dentistry business, and has now had his sentence commuted. Philip Esformes was involved in a 1 billion dollar bribery and fraud case in relation to his medical facilities, and has also had his sentence commuted.Nicholas Slatten, Paul Slough, Evan Liberty, and Dustin Heard were four Blackwater mercenaries convicted of murder and manslaughter in relation to their killing of 14 civilians and maiming 17 others in an unprovoked attack in Baghdad in 2007. But while the health agency says its system was not “compromised”, cybersecurity experts said it appeared to be infected with malware. In effect, Australia’s largest health department appears to have been infected with potentially dangerous Russian malware since June.
The malware on its own posed little threat, but would have allowed the hackers to pursue a second-stage attack that could have disabled the organisation’s cybersecurity programs and given full access to confidential data. There’s no evidence that hackers escalated the attack in this way.
There’s no evidence Australian organisations were targeted by Russian hackers. Instead, it’s more likely they were collateral damage in a global attack that has opportunistically infected thousands of systems worldwide.

They have now been pardoned.

And he has also been ramping up death row. He is really pushing his own law and order agenda.
26 new pardons and commutations today including Manafort, Roger Stone, and Jared Kushner’s father Charles who is a real piece of work:
The pardons of Manafort and Stone reward two of the most high-profile and widely condemned former advisers of the President, both of whom were indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller, went to trial and were convicted by juries of multiple crimeCharles Kushner, meanwhile, had been prosecuted by then-US Attorney for New Jersey Chris Christie in the early 2000s for tax evasion, witness tampering and illegal campaign contributions.
He eventually pleaded guilty to 16 counts of tax evasion, one count of retaliating against a federal witness — his brother-in-law — and another count of lying to the Federal Election Commission.
Christie in early 2019 went on to say that Charles Kushner committed “one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes” he had prosecuted, referring to an elaborate revenge plot that the older Kushner hatched in 2003 in order to target his brother-in-law, William Schulder, a former employee turned witness for federal prosecutors in their case against Kushner.
As a part of the plot, Kushner hired a prostitute to lure Schulder into having sex in a Bridgewater, New Jersey, motel room as a hidden camera rolled.
A tape of the encounter was then sent to Kushner’s sister and Schulder’s wife, Esther. Ultimately, the intimidation stunt failed. The Schulders brought the video to prosecutors, who tracked down the woman and threatened her with arrest. She promptly turned on Kushner.Andrew Weissmann, the ex-prosecutor who oversaw Manafort’s prosecution in the Mueller investigation, has alleged that the former Trump aide received special treatment from the Justice Department following his imprisonment.
“The pardons from this President are what you would expect to get if you gave the pardon power to a mob boss,” Weissmann wrote on Twitter Wednesday night.

There’s a lot I don’t know but it seems to me that Donald Trump pissing off Congressional Republicans could end up being pretty bad for him. He may ultimately rely on their protection.
https://www.al.com/news/2020/12/trump-vetoes-740-billion-defense-spending-bill-that-would-raise-troops-pay-rename-confederate-named-bases.html
President Donald Trump on Wednesday vetoed the annual defense policy bill, following through on threats to veto a measure that has broad bipartisan support in Congress and potentially setting up the first override vote of his presidency.
The bill affirms 3% pay raises for U.S. troops and authorizes more than $740 billion in military programs and construction.
Trump has offered a series of rationales for vetoing the bill. He has called for lawmakers to include limits on social media companies he claimed are biased against him. He has called for stripping out language that allows for the renaming of military bases such as Fort Benning and Fort Hood that honor Confederate leaders.
On Saturday morning, the day after Christmas, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to continue his attack on political institutions and figures who have failed to get in line with his authoritarian mission of overturning the democratic will of America’s voters, who, after four years of his administration, clearly chose his opponent.
Since Election Day, Trump and his allies have contested nearly every stage recording, certifying, or otherwise formalizing his defeat. The next major opportunity to do so—and the most significant one between now and Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20—is when Congress meets to count the electoral votes sent from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The president is urging his supporters to convene in the nation’s capital that day, setting up dramatic clashes both inside and outside Congress.

@realDonaldTrump
The “Justice” Department and the FBI have done nothing about the 2020 Presidential Election Voter Fraud, the biggest SCAM in our nation’s history, despite overwhelming evidence. They should be ashamed. History will remember. Never give up. See everyone in D.C. on January 6th.
This claim about election fraud is disputed

While it is unlikely that Trump supporters in Congress can replace any Biden-supporting electors—that would take the cooperation or assent of the Democratic-controlled House—objections from some of the president’s staunchest allies could significantly delay the proceedings. They are also likely to help further calcify on the right two corrosive notions: that Trump rightfully won the election, and that Washington’s top Republicans failed to stick up for him.

Over the past two months, Trump supporters have come to Washington, DC several times to protest the election and push for Trump to stay in the White House. One recent event featured Proud Boys, a neo-fascist organization that supports Trump, participating in violent acts and vandalizing several of the city’s historically black churches.

I think Trump should probably think twice about insulting the Supreme Court. He’s going to need them onside to rule on whether he can pardon himself.

House veto override may show Trump’s grip on GOP slipping
(CNN)President Donald Trump’s ability to scramble American political lines continues even from the golf course, with House votes Monday showing that his feverish hold over the GOP — and US government — is hurtling toward a humbling end.
But be warned: Following along could induce some whiplash.
The House of Representatives took a pair of votes Monday night with mixed results for the President: Conservatives joined Democrats in voting to increase coronavirus stimulus checks, but they also joined forces to override his veto of the massive defense spending bill, a solid rebuke and sign of his waning power.
Forty-four House Republicans voted, after the President’s badgering, to help Democrats approve more generous $2,000 Covid-19 relief checks. The party had rejected Democratic attempts to make the checks more generous before Christmas. It’s not clear if the Senate, which is controlled by Republicans, will have a similar change of heart. For now, $600 relief checks are the law.
But Trump suffered a clear setback when more than 100 House Republicans, moments after approving the larger direct payments to Americans, voted for the first time to help Democrats override a Trump veto, passing the annual defense authorization over his objection and sending that, too, to the Senate.

Trump Doing Well Among People Charged With Voter Fraud

Trump election lawyer Lin Wood calls for Pence to be ‘executed by firing squad’
Trump election attorney Lin Wood tweeted that Vice President Mike Pence will “face execution by firing squad,” in a string of tweets that prompted questions about his sanity. He called Mr Pence a “coward” who will “sing like a bird and confess ALL”.
The lawyer has lost several lawsuits challenging Donald Trump’s election loss. In the Friday afternoon thread, Mr Wood said the focus had been on the Democrats during the effort to overturn the election but one of the main culprits of Mr Trump’s loss was his own party. Mr Wood also represented Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager charged with shooting two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin during this summer’s racial justice protests.
“Over time, we have learned that the Democrats were joined by CCP & other foreign countries,” Mr Wood tweeted, possibly referring to the Chinese Communist Party.
Mr Wood went on to make baseless accusations against “globalists like George Soros,” “elitists like Bill Gates,” and the Republican Party.
He then claimed that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Vice President Mike Pence would be arrested.
You can’t make this shit up.
As an aside, that violates Twitter’s user policy, I wonder if it’s still there? (I’m unable to find the tweet, but his account is still active despite calls to Twitter support to remove him. He’s also been tweeting he’s been getting death threats, so I wonder if those accounts are still active?)

Is Trump Cracking Under the Weight of Losing?
Donald Trump has never had a week like the week he just had. On the heels of the Supreme Court’s knock-back and the Electoral College’s knockout, some of his most reliable supporters—Mitch McConnell, Vladimir Putin, Newsmax—acknowledged and affirmed the actual fact of the matter. Trump is a loser.
Consequently, he is plainly out of sorts, say former close associates, longtime Trump watchers and mental health experts.
It’s not just his odd behavior—the testy, tiny desk session with the press, the stilted Medal of Freedom ceremony that ended with his awkward exit, the cut-short trip to the Army-Navy football game. It’s even more pointedly his conspicuous and ongoing absences. The narcissistic Trump has spent the last half a century—but especially the last half a decade—making himself and keeping himself the most paid-attention-to person on the planet. But in the month and a half since Election Day, Trump has been seen and heard relatively sparingly and sporadically. No-showing unexpectedly at a Christmas party, sticking to consistently sparse public schedules and speaking mainly through his increasingly manic Twitter feed, he’s been fixated more than anything else on his baseless insistence that he won the election when he did not.
Over the course of a lifetime of professional and personal transgressions and failures, channeling lasting, curdled lessons of Norman Vincent Peale and Roy Cohn, Trump has assembled a record of rather remarkable resilience. His typical level of activity and almost animal energy has at times lent him an air of insusceptibility, every one of his brushes with financial or reputational ruin ending with Trump emerging all but untouched. His current crisis, though, his eviction from the White House now just a month out, is something altogether different and new.
“He’s never been in a situation in which he has lost in a way he can’t escape from,” Mary Trump, his niece and the author of the fiercely critical and bestselling book about him and their family, told me. “We continue to wait for him to accept reality, for him to concede, and that is something he is not capable of doing,” added Bandy Lee, the forensic psychiatrist from Yale who’s spent the last four years trying to warn the world about Trump and the ways in which he’s disordered and dangerous. “Being a loser,” she said, for Trump is tantamount to “psychic death.”
The combination of an unprecedented rebuke meeting an uncommonly vulnerable ego has some people wondering if there is a chance that Trump’s unusual actions suggest something potentially more dire. Could he be on his way to a mental breakdown?
Sam Nunberg dismissed the notion. “No,” the former Trump political aide said in a text.
Same with Anthony Scaramucci, who very briefly and semi-famously was his top White House spokesperson. “No chance,” he said.
But that’s not consensus. Louise Sunshine, for instance, has known Trump longer than just about anybody. She started working with him in the early 1970s—so I sent her a text asking her the question. “Maybe,” she responded.
Everybody, after all, has a breaking point. “And he’s not indestructible,” said Barbara Res, a former Trump Organization executive vice president who was the construction manager for Trump Tower and just wrote a book called Tower of Lies. “I do think Trump is struggling,” Tony Schwartz, the actual author of The Art of the Deal, told me, “and that this is far and away the toughest time he’s ever had.”
“His fragile ego has never been tested to this extent,” Michael Cohen, his former personal attorney and enforcer before he turned on him, told me. “While he’s creating a false pretense of strength and fortitude, internally he is angry, depressed and manic. As each day ends, Trump knows he’s one day closer to legal and financial troubles. Accordingly, we will all see his behavior deteriorate until it progresses into a full mental breakdown.”
“Psychological disorders are like anything else,” said Mary Trump, who’s also a psychologist. “If they’re unacknowledged and untreated over time, they get worse.”
In Lee’s estimation, it’s not something that could happen. It’s something that is happening, that’s been happening for the past four years—and will keep happening.
“His pathology has continued to grow, continued to cause him to decompensate, and so we’re at a stage now where his detachment from reality is pretty much complete and his symptoms are as severe as can be.” She likened Trump to “a car without functioning brakes.” Such a car, she explained, can look for a long time like it’s fine, and keep going, faster and faster, even outracing other cars. “But at the bottom of the hill,” Lee said, “it always crashes.”
Trump is who and how he is first and foremost because of his parents. His unwell mother couldn’t and didn’t give him the attention he wanted and needed, while his domineering father gave him attention but a wrong and warping kind—instilling in him a grim, zero-sum worldview with the dictate that the only option was to be “a winner.” Ever since, he responded so relentlessly to these harsh particulars of his loveless upbringing—the insatiable appetite for publicity, the crass, constant self-aggrandizement—that he became the president of the United States and arguably the most famous person alive. But from the time he was a boy, the way Trump has coped with the void he’s felt ultimately has been less a solution than a spotlight—it’s what’s made his most fundamental problem most manifest.
“His problem is that he has grown up with vulnerability in terms of his self-worth, self-esteem and a clear sense of himself,” Mark Smaller, a past president of the American Psychoanalytic Association, told me. “Somebody with these kinds of vulnerabilities, affirmation, being the center of things, is never enough. Because you can’t solve these old wounds, these old, narcissistic wounds—you cannot solve them with affirmation, with being at the center of things. You can’t because they persist, so that you need more attention, you need more affirmation, you need to be more at the center of things, all the time, more often. And when realities start to interfere with getting that kind of affirmation, you just want more.”…
…“He’ll continue to rage against the results, and he’ll continue to solidify in the minds of millions more Americans that the democratic process was corrupted, and that’s going to have a long-lasting tail that we’ll have to deal with in American politics for many, many years,” said Miles Taylor, the former chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security who was “Anonymous” before he revealed his identity in October. “I don’t expect that the president is going to chain himself to the Resolute Desk and refuse to leave, but also, given what we’ve seen the past few weeks, I wouldn’t totally put it past him.”
“The probability of something very bad happening is very high, unacceptably high, and the fact that we don’t have guardrails in place, the fact that we are allowing a mentally incapacitated president to continue in the job, in such an important job, for a single day longer, is a truly unacceptable reality,” said Lee, the Yale psychiatrist. “We’re talking about his access to the most powerful military on the planet and his access to technology that’s capable of destroying human civilization many times over.”
“You have to remember,” said Cohen, his former attorney. “Trump doesn’t see things the way that you do. He sees things in his distorted reality that benefits him. He’s able to right now embrace that distorted reality because he still wakes up in the White House. But what happens each and every day as he gets closer to not only leaving, but also it comes with a sense of, in his mind, humiliation, right? And he knows that he is destined for legal troubles.”
“He’s looking down the barrel” of legal and financial difficulties, Mary Trump said. “But perhaps more troubling for him or more terrifying for him is the fact that he is in danger of losing his relevance.”
And that is not something Trump will ever be able to abide.
“He’s going to go back to Mar-a-Lago, to MAGAstan, as I call it, and he’s going to return to standing ovations and applause beyond what you can comprehend,” Cohen said, “because these sycophants that are there will continue to bolster his ego and he can go from table to table, listening to people placate him about how the election was stolen from him. And that’s just going to further create that mishigas in his head.”
“Do I think that Trump is going to fall apart in a way where he would become completely dysfunctional and not leave his room? I don’t think so,” said Smaller, the past president of the psychoanalytic association. “But if you’re in this kind of unregulated state, and I think that’s what we’re observing, he’ll do kind of desperate things to maintain that being the center of attention.”
“He will not go away, because this is his psychological lifeline,” Lee said.
“For him,” she stressed, “it’s a matter of psychic survival.”

I suppose if you only attract fans who believe bullshit then they’ll start making it up too?
one thing rather astonishing to us is that
assuming there is some kind of shared common reality then in SCIENCE overwhelming consensus tends to travel with evidence
and yet with the degree of spurious bullshit and absence of evidence in the DPRNA dealings, up to the point they lost the election 60 times, the Republicans managed to maintain such a level of cohesion
of course it all seems like fragmentation and random pulling in random directions at the moment

I mean it’s true
(CNN)President Donald Trump pushed Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” votes to overturn the election results after his loss to President-elect Biden, according to an audio recording of a phone call obtained by CNN and first reported by the Washington Post.
In excerpts of the stunning one-hour phone call Saturday, Trump lambasted his fellow Republican for refusing to falsely say that he won the election in Georgia and repeatedly touted baseless claims of election fraud.
“The people of Georgia are angry, the people in the country are angry. And there’s nothing wrong with saying that, you know, um, that you’ve recalculated,” Trump said in one part of the call. Raffensperger responded, “Well, Mr. President, the challenge that you have is, the data you have is wrong.”
In another part, Trump said, “So look. All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state.”
“You should want to have an accurate election. And you’re a Republican,” Trump said at one point.
“We believe that we do have an accurate election,” Raffensperger said in response, to which Trump replied, “No, no you don’t. Not even close. You’re off by hundreds of thousands of votes.”
The President also claimed during the call that votes in the state were scanned three times, an allegation Raffensperger rebuffed, saying, “We did an audit of that and we proved conclusively that they were not scanned three times.”
The White House declined to comment to CNN.
CNN has reached out to Raffensperger.

Texas lawsuit was the last straw. I’m leaving the Republican Party: Former NH GOP chair
https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/12/17/leaving-republican-party-disgraceful-assault-on-election-column/3922686001/
Texas lawsuit was the last straw. I’m leaving the Republican Party: Former NH GOP chairThe GOP has ransacked our Constitution and attempted a coup. The Republican Party of Lincoln is no more. I’m switching my registration to independent
My mother spent a lifetime trying to teach me to stand for what is right. “You do the right thing because it is the right thing,” she would tell me, “no matter how hard it might be. You will be better and stronger for having done so.”
I became a Republican in part because those values seemed inherently aligned with the Republican Party as I understood it: a voice for equality, freedom and constitutional conservatism, with a rich history of fighting for what was right because it was right.
I ran for Congress and became the Republican nominee running on these beliefs. I was elected to two terms as the chairman of the New Hampshire Republican party advancing these values. I have spent the past 20 years engaged in the fight for these foundational American principles — as a Republican.
Support for dismantling democracy
For the past five years, however, I have found myself fighting for what I thought were the principles of my party in the face of the ever-deteriorating character and integrity of party representatives. They have revealed their impotence and decrepitude as they have fallen, one by one, at the feet of the most corrupt, destructive and unstable president in the history of our country.
It seems there is no assault on human dignity too great, no attack on democracy too extreme, to inspire the Republican weaklings in Congress to speak up or stand up to President Donald Trump.
With very few exceptions, elected Republicans have been silent in the face of this president’s most contemptuous and at times barbaric actions. They have defended and excused his impeachable betrayals.
Worst of all, they have openly supported his attempts to sabotage the Constitution and dismantle democracy as we know it. Trump’s post-election attempts to invalidate millions of legitimate votes through an abuse of the judicial system, culminating in a Texas lawsuit to block Joe Biden wins in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, amount to no less than an attempted coup. And they have been openly encouraged and supported by every level of the Republican Party.
I have been asked thousands of times how I can continue to call myself a Republican in the face of such dangerous, anti-American actions.
The truth is, I cannot.
Those ideals that I have spent so many years fighting for — liberty, conservatism, constitutional leadership — are no longer the principles of the Republican Party. Never did I believe I would see the day when the party of Abraham Lincoln would try to invalidate millions of legitimate ballots and enlist in an effort to overthrow the lawful government of the United States.
Yet, that is where we are today. In the weeks since the election, the GOP has ransacked the Constitution. Republicans have demeaned our republic with their attempts to steal an election as if we were no more than a third-rate banana republic. They have humiliated themselves and disgraced our great nation.
As I watched the Republican Party and its elected leaders across the country coalesce around the most unpatriotic assault on our elections that I have ever seen, it became clear to me that the party of Lincoln is no more.
Just as Abraham Lincoln understood that America could not continue to stand with so destructive an institution as slavery, so have I come to understand that America and today’s Republican Party cannot coexist.
Embrace of Trump coup was too much
The GOP has become so destructive an institution — by embracing racism, accepting hatred and cruelty as the foundation for policy, and by advocating for and advancing the overthrow of democracy in America — that it has become wholly incompatible with the constitutional pillars of our country.
I have spent my entire life trying to meet the ethical measure of my mother’s lessons. I have spent my years in the Republican Party trying to meet Lincoln’s standard of “right makes might.” And I have spent the past 30 years as a mom myself, trying each day to teach my children by my actions that we do the right thing, no matter how hard, because it is right.
On Thursday, the one-year anniversary of the founding of The Lincoln Project, I will go to my town hall and rescind my registration as a Republican and register as an independent. I do so not because of Trump, but because of everyone else in the party who openly embraces Trumpism, because of the party’s perfidious leaders, and a platform that advocates against equal rights for all.
Leaving the Republican party is no small thing for me. It is not an easy decision. I am sure that there are many reading right now who are thinking “good riddance” — and probably much worse. But I make this choice in peace, on my own terms.
At least two traditions they need to scrap:
a) Retaining a president in power for months after losing the election.
b) Presidential pardons.

They should probably also limit the President’s power to fire Inspector Generals, whose job is partly to keep tabs on the President…

I became a Republican in part because those values seemed inherently aligned with the Republican Party as I understood it: a voice for equality, freedom and constitutional conservatism, with a rich history of fighting for what was right because it was right.
Even ignoring the Trump period, I don’t see much over the last 50 years or so to support the idea that the Republican party is a voice for equality.
Am I missing something?

I think, maybe, they thought they could pretend that they were and get away with it. In the trump period, all pretence is out the window…

Hey remember when this guy held back 400 million dollars Congress-approved military aid so that he could blackmail Zelensky into fabricating evidence against Joe Biden?
He really needs to sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up forever. His lack of shame never fails to amaze.

true, and completing the selling out of half of USSA representation to Russia might well have reduced the capacity for Russia to push it to this stage
but hey here we are and at least it’s made everyone’s loyalties much clearer
