Ah well after the results in NZ, ACT and Bolivia, hopefully Red October keeps rolling on…
But honestly this is close as heck and it is going to depend on where a number of marginal electorates fall. There some fear that the filth will pick up Mundingburra but ALP might be looking to nab Bonney. The Greens are hoping for two or three seats and it is not outside the realms of possibility that they end up with some negotiating clout. Labor has spent a fair bit of energy on smear campaigns against specific Greens candidates.

I think Labour will be returned easily, all incumbent governments in Aus would win an election under current circumstances. The Freckle seems like a nice enough lass but she hasn’t exactly set the house on fire.

I didn’t even know my electorate had a Greens candidate until I saw the ballot paper. There’s been zero campaigning from her or the party.
They don’t have millions to spend, it makes sense for them to concentrate their efforts in the seats where they have a decent chance.

I read somewhere yesterday that Rupert was pushing Palmer more in the north and the Greens more in the South. The idea being that if they can’t have a lib govt then they deserve a hung one.
you know in all my years of voting for greens I havent really had to worry about them cheating me or lying to me. And they may be the environmental party but IMO they are also the social justice party. It has been so long since the Labor party did a no child in poverty or a sorry to an aborigine.

That’s why you research :)
I have
LNP – an ex-copper so is obviously dodgy as fuck.
Labor – Ex local counsel and prison screw so is obviously dodgy as fuck.
Palmer, Katter, One Nation etc – their policies comprise of saying stupid things.
Green – a surprisingly sane looking woman who seems to have devoted her life in the persuit of helping others.
Legalise Cannabis – The candidate’s political facebook page has a single photo with no policies listed. She’s a ghost.
I guess I’m voting Green again.
Well done Mr Norman. :)
We’re predicted to be a safe Labor seat.
Still too close to call with ALP doing well in the SE and the LNP looking good in some regional seats. In primary vote it looks like there is a big swing to the Greens and the ONP has lost more than half of their vote.

Well, One Nation has 1 seat, and that means that there’s two possibilities:
1. The One Nation MP will be a complete puppet of Pauline’s, so she might as well be sitting in the House herself
or
2. The One Nation MP will attempt to set a new world record for disassociating him/herself from the party under the banner of which they were elected, and declare themselves to be an independent.
Early doors but it does appear the ALP will retain all three Townsville seats

“The feud started when Jordan Shanks (Friendly Jordy) called for the firing of ScoMo in January by the GG, Whitlam style
and he got schooled by Mr Green on constitutional laws and since then he takes as many pots shots at Antony as if he is supporting right-wing establishment, he obviously does not know anything about Antony’s personal life or views and has his angst very misplaced
Since then he has just been on the attack, I use to find Shanks views funny in a satirical way but now he thinks he is a serious politic power and gets too wrapped up in his own ideology and less funny as time goes on”

Yeah. The LNP & ALP each put up a fake Independent, to take votes from me and divert their preferences (small though they are) to their respective main party. They’ll do it again next time as well.
Looks like we have the ALP picking up Bundaberg, Caloundra, Hervey Bay, Nicklin, Pumicestone, while losing South Brisbane to the Greens, and no other changes

I mean for all practical purposes we have the result. There’s no real rush to dot the Is and cross the Ts.
Maybe a chance to rub Deb’s nose in it a bit harder?

That is true.
I’m criticising the postal vote system in general.
Are you in Pennsylvania?

She’s been told to fall on her sword, apparently. So, it’ll be straight back to the Boys Club for the LNP, I guess.

I’m in the 21st century.
Exactly surely voting by email or Twitter is the correct way to do it, you need passwords and they’re secure and there are no Russian troll bots.

ABC News:
‘Deputy leader Tim Mander bows out of LNP’s leadership race
By Tim Swanston
Queensland’s LNP deputy leader Tim Mander says he will not contest the party’s leadership or deputy leadership, following the party’s election defeat at the weekend.
‘No thanks’ said Mr Mander in an impromptu interview.
‘If someone can work out how to re-attach the rudder to this ship, and how to get the engine room to listen to an order now and then, things might be different’, he said.
‘Not having to stick rigidly to a course chosen by lobby groups would be nice, too’, added Mr. Mander.
‘Until then, i’m not going anywhere near the wheelhouse.’

A nice set of nautical metaphors there.

Said he wouldn’t contestfor leader or for deputy leader.
To continue the nautical analogies, he’s putting on his flotation device and heading for the lifeboat.

He ought to start a new party.
He could call them The Democrats, or something like that.
“It was a good night for the political left, with a Labor government returned, the Greens’ inner-city empire expanded, One Nation rebuffed, Clive Palmer saved from humiliation only by his lack of shame, and the Morrison government denied a return on the capital it spent taking Labor on before and during the campaign. In a parliament of 93 seats, Labor seems most likely to make a net gain of two or three on the 48 it won in 2017, with the negative side of its ledger consisting of former Deputy Premier Jackie Trad in South Brisbane defeat by the Greens in South Brisbane.”

let’s hope we can apply it again this week
Abolish the brains trust, preferencing Greens was shameful, says Rob Borbidge
Former Queensland premier Rob Borbidge is “ashamed” that the Liberal National Party directed votes to the Greens at the state election and has called for the scrapping of the powerful president’s committee that pulls strings in the LNP organisation.

Jackie Trad was a self-serving thug, if the term can be applied to a female. She’s no loss to a Labor govt.
and to think that just a year ago federally it was all “see the PEOPLE voted see they gave us a MANDATE to be as corrupt and useless as fuck” oh how much can change with an innings a bat
According to the ABC, I ended up with 426 primary votes (not sure if that’s the final count, but I think it is) which is around a hundred more than I thought I’d get. Pretty happy with that, considering zero advertising, etc.

Have you thought about running for local council? I understand though that most of Brisbane is one council so it might be just as a hard for independents as state elections.

Bill would be in Gold Coast, which is a sizeable city of 600000 people, but the council is mostly independents.

Nope, they’re mostly LNP plants. So much so that they don’t bother to hide it anymore.

We need to organise the Holiday Party, (the name ‘Holiday Party’ will be a great vote-attractor), to descend in our droves on Bill’s electorate, swamp ‘em with ‘vote for Bill’ urging, and then as soon as he’s elected, the party disbands.
Twas the night of All Hallows and quiet as a mouse,
When out from dark shadows they came to break into your house,
“Good burghers of Townsville” ! cried Harper and staff
“Give them your keys – so they can make off with your cars!”
And down at the gun club gathered katter and Co
Blasting bats and big snappers and sometimes their toes
High in moon castle sat palmer aghast
The voters saw through him and gave him the shaft.
Long in the night, drank punters at bars,
One Nation, team liberal now pissed and dancing with tarts,
So ends our tale without donkey vote Greens
Beware of the ‘ville on the night of the ‘ween

After recounts, ALP won Bundaberg by 9 votes and Nicklin by 85 votes. This is the first time that ALP has won Nicklin.
Given that there was some concern that ALP was vulnerable in the three Townsville seats, it is pleasing that they’ve all been won by more than 3%.

9 votes?
Wow, that is a tight margin. Do we know what was the margin on the first count, and can we be sure the second was more accurate? (assuming they were not the same)

Typically recounts are performed with higher levels of redundancy and cross-checking. I don’t know the specific procedures in Qld.

Antony’s wrap up
He estimates 53.2-46.8 was the 2pp split, a swing towards Labor of 1.9% compared to 2017.
“The election was the first in Queensland for a fixed four-year term, and means that by the next election in November 2024, Labor will have governed Queensland for 30 of the last 35 years.
In mid-2021 Annastacia Palaszczuk will pass Clare Martin to become Australia’s longest serving female head of government. If Palaszczuk stays as Premier until 2024, she will pass Peter Beattie to become Queensland’s fourth longest serving Premier, trailing only Joh Bjelke-Petersen (Country/National), Frank Nicklin (Country) and William Forgan Smith (Labor).”
That’s a remarkable stat.

Worth reflecting on how in the long scheme ALP has dominated in Queensland since Federation. At the end of this term they’ll have had 69 years in power, compared to 40 years for the Nationals and LNP combined.
