Speedy Jnr has chosen to make one of these for his Industrial Technology HSC project. So far, he has the tyre, and friends have given him an old kids’ motorbike which he will use the motor from. He is in the garage now doing some dismantling, and I can see already that my boy has his enthusiasm back :)

I have a couple of questions …

The tyre had a foam strip glued to the inside of it, all the way around. What is the purpose of this foam?

More importantly, the adhesive they used was a sticky, black, messy goo. Speedy Jnr removed the strip and, despite my urging him to put on a set of old clothes, was wearing his best pair of pants. I will not clean them and explained that if he can’t get the stains out, it will mean a trip to the shops on Monday for him to buy himself a replacement pair. He has tried (although I’m not sure how thoroughly) using dishwashing detergent, EXIT and Sard laundry soap, and metho. His next attempt was going to be mineral turpentine, but I think the smell will linger forever. Thoughts?

if it is sikaflex then you won’t get it off. mechanical means of removal only usually.

I just looked up clean-up, and it seems that he may have been on the right track with the mineral turpentine, however, the pants have been sitting in the laundry for a week already, as he had assumed that they might clean themselves during that time :/

Look you’ve got to understand, the pants are not important.

Yes, he’s been trying to tell me that all week. Says he doesn’t need good pants for anything and can wear his ‘work’ clothes anywhere he needs to go. He has no problem with it and it’s me who has a problem. I am just too fussy.

Speedy Jnr tells me you lean it, but from videos I have seen there’s very little maneuverability.
