Have we forgotten something?

It’s not all about Donald Trump you know.

Place your bets here.

Meh.

I learnt my lesson about hayburner contests a longtime ago.

Day, date and time, please.

I know it’s held in Melbourne in November each year, and it’s supposedly the race that stops a nation.

The last time you could get 3 tickets for a dollar you had to pay 6p.

No big deal in Vic. Since Covid no one goes to work there anyway.

Not this year it won’t. The nation is already stopped.

And it’s today, Mr V. 3pm Melb time or 2pm your time.

That’s rather extravagant of you Mr V. But then again, you wouldn’t want to lose everything, including the broom.

I think you’re flogging a dead horse, as opposed to flogging a living one, here if you reckon you’re gunna get much support here.

What time does the Melbourne Cup start?

The so-called “race that stops the nation” is scheduled for 3:00pm AEDT — that’s Melbourne time, and also for those in New South Wales, ACT and Tasmania.

If you’re in Queensland, the race will start at 2:00pm AEST, or in South Australia, at 2:30pm ACDT. In the Northern Territory, it will be 1:30pm ACST, and in Western Australia it will be 12:00pm AWST.”

For your eyes only, if PWM’s tips get out it could well result in a betting plunge.
This year I’m looking at the quinella of Russian Camelot and Steel Prince it should pay handsomely.
So if you’ve scrimped and saved for little Wendy’s eye operation or the like now’s the time to invest it.

So the first one of those is an American horse and the second one is Australian?

;)

Surprise winner that nobody expected.

Even more surprising, led from the front right from the gate. That hasn’t happened in any Melbourne Cup in my lifetime.
Damn bad strategy so far as wind resistance is concerned. Set a cracking pace that tended to leave the rest of the field behind.

The second horse was back in place 3-4 through most of the race.

The third horse started out near the far back of the race.

Very unusual combination of strategies.

I thought the race order was decided in the jockey’s locker room before the race, using coded messages, and the jockeys just guide their horse into the correct position ??

It’s not a reality TV show where everything is supposedly scripted.

Did this many horses die in the 60s or did we just not care?

I don’t remember this being a thing even the 80s and 90s. Maybe it wasn’t mentioned what happened to them.

It’s not that common, second horse this year at Flemington. They used to bring out a big tarp to hide the horse and then shoot it.

I came 2nd in the cup and have reinvested my winnings in the subsequent three races to total $39 ($11 down on the day). Should i bet it all on Trump to possibly soothe my shattered soul with $100?
