Bloody thing. It’s goin’ in the dam I tells ya. Chuck it in the dam.

It starts first go, which is a miracle for these things on it own. It’ll run, but won’t stay running.

It’ll only run (just) when half choked, then stalls after 30 sec to a minute or so. If I catch the stall early enough and choke it further it comes back. Eventually it will stop. Then starts first go again.

Smells of fuel starvation to me, but I’ve pulled the fuel lines apart and there is no blockage.

Tell me something. Is that little push fuel primer bubble thing meant to stay full? Cause it doesn’t, and gets lots of bubbles in it, and eventually empties. It won’t “push/pump” full either. Gets petrol in it, but very much. I’ve pulled that apart too, and the rubbery bubble thing ain’t split, and neither is the very flimsy gaskety thing underneath it.

Should I chuck it in the dam?

I

Check your petrol cap, try and run it with the cap off, it might be plugged and not letting air in, something something…………

Nup. Just tried that. Does the same thing. I can get it to run continuously, but it takes constant adjustment of the choke between full choke and half choke. Beings to stall, choke it just a bit, and it comes back.

Pulled it out, examined it closely. No hole or split.

I don’t know. I come to you lot for those sort of problems…

(And I’ve never used a whipper snipper. I’ve been edging the grass with a spade today.)

If it is going in the dam, it has to go in running. For maximum joy for you.

Hey Speedy, SE26 has been taken into custody, it was fond on the balcony of a 22 story apartment somewhere in Sydney.
We don’t know the circumstances of it’s arrest, it might have been trying to eat Tweety?

sounds like it’s running lean, so fuel, whatever, if too many bubbles in transparent inspection/manual pump thingy then could be sucking air, anything from filter on bottom of lift pipe, or petrol starting to soften(dissolve) plastic lift pipe in bottom of tank (it happens), or has a crack up further, or manual pump bulb has a crack, or carburetor, some block maybe…or water in the fuel maybe

or, if it’s overheating with dodgy spark plug it’ll give indications very similar to leaning out

so many ideas

….. and it’s the same carby. But there’s bits in that carby that ain’t in mine, IIRC. hmmmmm…….

And yes. The primer bulb is meant to stay full. Even when running. No air bubbles at all. Mine don’t do that..

More carby surgery is scheduled for the morning.
