This isn’t a native. Thanks I’ll try looking at Liatris.
I haven’t actually seen the plant as this is a photo sent to me by a local farmer.

Liatris are Astrids. The plant above is more likely to be something similar to this line of thinking https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chamaenerion_angustifolium

Yes and upon checking for Epilobium as weeds in NSW this one is a good candidate.
