Fair question, relatedly perhaps we’ve heard that benzodiazepine makes you sleep but you don’t get the cycles so it’s quite unnatural a pattern and not as restful (but maybe good for forgetting) we can’t confirm or refute this ourselves not having done it.

Well regular non-use of cannabis appears to suppress dream recollection in at least some people, so I think it might be hard to tell what was actually causing the suppression.
