My plans for the Easter break in the garden is…..

To sow more spring onion seeds, seeing as the heat wave cooked the ones that had germinated. Also sow some carrots & beetroot, silver beet and some other seeds… once I go through them.

Won’t be using the moon cycle as I want to get them in and just have some fun out in the garden.

Been so long since I had fun out in the garden.

What are you getting up to in your garden this Easter????

I would like to clear out the last of the summer crops from my vege beds and rejuvenate them for autumn plantings. Some seeds I sowed in punnets have not germinated well so might try again. They could be getting too old.

Might have to cull the two boys that haven’t found homes :(

well i’ve just started up the compost heaps again. took me a few hours – turned what i had acummulated – watered it – added more – chopped up old corn stalks and threw them on – add nz spinach (green) and watered again.
my chooks luv me when i work in their pen – they suddenly get interested in anything i’m working on – even if its been right next to them for a month.
must start chopping the wood i’ve stockpiled.

that could explain why i’m seeing more feathers than usual in their bedding straw – mine are starting to molt and consequently not laying.

Probably not much.. too hot cries
Forecasts – 33, 32, 28, 27.

Might have a chance on Sunday and Monday but usually we sleep through the gardening part of the day :(

I guess I will try to do some housework when it’s too hot to go outside..

Birds aren’t collecting the feathers for their nests, so I will collect them and pop in the compost bin….. slackers are making me work some…..LOL

I plant to pullout the cherry toms and bung a heap of compost on there. I’ve sown onion seeds in punnets so they’ll go into that space. I’ll be putting more into the main vegie bed. You never have enough onions. I’m growing Ailsa Craig and red onions this time.

onions can be theoretically planted at 10cm centres in both directions – therefore 100 onions per sq.m. – in practice you should plant 300 onions (for a whole year’s supply) in about 6-8 sq.m.

We are going to try an get some more stuff done. Are clearing an area for a veg garden but we have to have it raised (sleepers) because of our old creaking backs. It will be a while before we are ready to plant as things move slowly round here.

We will be doing the flea markets over on Sunday for sure. You just never know what you might find amongst the plant stalls.

Have to make some Easter eggs on Monday for the family. We won’t see the kids until later in the week so I can afford to leave it till Monday. Found a nice recipe for filling some of the shop bought chocolate eggs. I’ll report on their yay or nay next week.

Tomorrow I am looking at sowing the spring onions and garlic.

The main job though is to get the duck run and Freedom Road raked. Looks like we could have some wet days coming towards us this coming week. I want to collect all the top soil and pop it in the area where the green manure will be planted this winter. Also in a no -dig area, I want to top it up with all the great crap the gang have been spreading round the place.

Plus all the feathers can be collected and popped into the compost bin. Cut back those arum lilies and use their leaves as green manure.

Busy busy and I am just so pumped with this cooler weather. I feel so invigorated with the cool weather and just so pleased I am able to get out the back and just enjoy my vegie garden and hang out with the gang:D

Life is just 100% joy at the homestead…… can’t get any better than that:D

Well not much gardening today for me. Went down the shops, all closed here now till Tuesday… got the milk and dry food for the cats.

Ran into a good friend of the elfs and so we made arrangements to go and visit them this arvo….came home and you know the rest….

Only thing I got done was the bunny hutches cleaned out and the sawdust used as new path markers in the garden.
