Same. I would have been in the second year of an out-of-zone scholarship to a music high school in the leafy outer north east, and the half-dozen occasions I recall coming into the city would all have been at night time.

The explanation was that it had been mothballed for decades while she was in prison.

Overall I liked it, though it wasn’t perfect. Jack was in good form.

I wasn’t sad to see the back of Ryan. I don’t think Tosin Cole was ever really into it. You’ve got to throw yourself into the role. Graham, I’ll miss.

I don’t know whether I’ll stay with the next series or not. I do very much do not like rewriting the Doctor’s history.

Well it’s usually best just to leave jokes as they are without explaining them, even if they don’t quite land. Explaining jokes tends to suck joy from the universe.

I used to have a shed load of NS data books. They were indispensable years ago. I probably threw them out about 10 years ago when it was obvious that everything in them could just be found in a quick search and download of a PDF.

I’m pretty sure they remained a profitable company up until the time they were bought out by Texan Instruments.

I had some of them, too, but preferred other companies’ books; NS included example circuits but not details on how to use the chips. Motorola and Intersil were best for component details.

In some places, yes.

There are no yellow traffic lights in Brisbane.

The middle light is of a shade known as ‘Brisbane Green’.

Used sparingly, mace is actually a very pleasant spice, akin to nutmeg which is not surprising as it comes from the outer covering of the nutmeg seed.

Do you know how much the authors are charged to go open access in a peer reviewed journal? It is thousands of dollars.

The cost to go open access:

https://www.nature.com/news/open-access-the-true-cost-of-science-publishing-1.12676

so what you’re saying is, it really is on “YOU” that SCIENCE* isn’t getting the $129.95 / 72h it needs to deliver quality

*: not the journal

and that you never use sci-hub

Of course if you email the authors they are happy to send it for free. True story.

Did they eventually get a cease and desist ruling after you went all B.C. on them?

Yeah, but if you are looking for a lot of papers, that’s a lot of emailing.

No… srsly they’ll just email it. I’m not being sarcastic. Usually they are happy to answer questions about the work.

The Education Act of 1921 set out the criteria for free school meals eligibility. However, a miners’ strike that year increased the cost of offering meals to around £1 million. The Board of Education tried to limit the cost to the central government to just £300,000 by setting up a rationing system.Nov 2, 2020

It is just typical Tory nastiness. What would have been more efficient is if the government just issued some supermarket vouchers so families can go and buy the required food themselves. Needing someone to pack bags full of food and then distribute them to homes seems the least efficient way of doing it. All based on a few Tory MPs standing up in the house and claiming (without anything more than anecdotal evidence) that people would spend their vouchers on drugs and prostitution.

I don’t like Pauline Hanson and think she a stupid person, but to steal something so personal of hers I think is hitting below the belt and will cause her so many problems. The person who did this must be either totally irresponsible and/or really hate her. Politics need not be so low.

Apparently she let it lapse?

I don’t like Pauline Hanson and think she a stupid person, but to steal something so personal of hers I think is hitting below the belt and will cause her so many problems. The person who did this must be either totally irresponsible and/or really hate her. Politics need not be so low.

Apparently she let it lapse?
Which basically means she doesn’t own it any more? Not sure of the legalities on that.

It’s going to be someone else’s fault. She wouldn’t personally be looking after her website I don’t expect.

I thought there were new rules or guidelines that stopped people from grabbing domain names from prominent people or organisations? There was a spate of people buying domain names and basically holding them to ransom.

Don’t be ridiculous, they knew exactly what they were doing without any thought as to the consequences to the individual. It was a very low nasty move to damage a person as much as they could. The creep that took it had no use for it other than to inconvenience and demean her. If you think that is acceptable, then you should consider what your feelings would be if someone took over something that was important to you because they just wanted to cause you pain. We seem to be going the way of Trump with these immoral, could not care less attitudes.

Goodo, she’s an evil person who deserves to be inconvenienced. As for “demeaning”, she’s does that to herself every time she opens her mouth.

You both have a lot in common there.

It is not just about Pauline Hanson, but the very act of doing something so personal and hateful. Have you any idea the problems this is going to cause?

How is it hateful? It’s certainly less hateful than PH’s xenophobia. What problems?

Why am I surprised that you don’t understand. It is the action that took place not the person who suffered because of it. How would you like it if someone did that to you?

Bigotry does not have to be against anyone. Bigotry is a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (such as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.

I don’t really understand that either. If it was some work of art, with beautiful hand embroidery, beading, fine handiwork, a dress could be worth a lot of money. But that is a very straight kaftan design.

Unfortunate coincidence but speaker of minority language on a US based english platform needs some situational awareness.

Notice that the platform they are speaking on is in their native language.

No, it’s an international service

but what is its base

The company is american, the platform the user is using is in their country and in their language. The keyword search bot used is based on a language from another country. (America)

so what we’re saying is, no longer with reference to the specific instance given, it is unacceptable to have false positive flagging of intimidation and anyone who wants to engage in such should just go to town on a different-language platform
