My local council has resurfaced 700m of road using 22,000 used tyres.

The mayor says 2200 tonnes of tyres are saved from landfill, where they can take up to 80 years to break down. That’s great… but what happens to the road they dug up? Landfill?
Using crumbed rubber from recycled tyres in childrens playgrounds is pretty common. I wish councils would do it more often.
I was also thinking of crumbed rubber from recycled tyres for placing on footpaths where homeless people sleep (ie. under cover).
I hadn’t thought of making roads from recycled rubber. It’s a great idea. Let us know how it goes, durability-wise and noise-wise.
Yes, both bitumen and concrete from roads is already being recycled. There’s no reason why rubber on dug up roads couldn’t be recycled as well.
