This is COVID safe, social distancing ticket availability at The Gabba for Swannies V Brisbane this Saturday night. Even though Stadiums QLD say the Gabba is operating at 100% of capacity.

I want 3 tickets. The system will not let you pick 3 of a group of 4 as it leaves a single seat.

Which row do I end up in?

next whinge.

How do you normally get your tickets? Nice and easy to pick “email” and print them of.

Nup. Not any more they don’t.

Digital tickets ONLY.

Sent to your phone only, and show your QR code on the phone for entry.

Well. My phone makes phone calls. That’s what a phone is for. To make phone calls.

It don’t do high falootin’ “apps” or whatever they choose to call these things.

So how am I supposed to get in when we get there?

Is it sent as a text message to your phone, with the QR code attached or a link to it
You could borrow a number from someone you trust and get them to cut and paste it into an email you then print out

To be pedantic you could sticky tape it to the phone, they should just need the QR code it shouldn’t matter it what form it is unless they want to be difficult

No. You must install the Ticketmaster app. Your tickets are put in your “ticket wallet” in the app. You then must send the other tickets to the other person’s “ticketmaster app” on the other persons phone, which means they also must have a Ticketmaster account as well.

BTW, it’s the same with Ticketek.

However……………………

I have a cheap Android tablet, that runs the Ticketmaster app. It is not a phone. It has the “ticket wallet”, but of course, I don’t have any tickets yet.

However, it needs a wi-fi connection to connect to the internet.

However, once your tickets are in “your wallet”, it tells me it don’t need an internet connection to see them.

It’s all ITTHB.

That’s painful and rather unnecessary, a QR code via email is much simpler

I know not what the solution is for non smart phone users, apart from “get a smart phone”.

I have to admit I did find it a bit intimidating when I had to do the electronic ticketing thing for the first time. But I managed to figure it out and got into the stadium and found my seats easy enough,

This is all COVID stuff, Ms Buffy. All to do with that.

And there’s no one to ring either. The Ticketmaster helpline is “closed until further notice due to COVID requirements”

They say digital tickets only is for contact tracing.

I get that. But a printed QR code would work just as well for that purpose. I presume it is scanned at the gate, so scanning/receiving from a phone or scanning off a printed QR code is exactly the same…or is it just once it is sent to your app you are assumed to have attended? That might cause problems if you fail to actually go and then get caught in a COVID net that you weren’t actually part of. I don’t know how these things work.

Oh, and I’m not suggesting you tell Ticketmaster you are unhappy. I’m suggesting to tell your beloved football team that older, faithful, longterm supporters are being left out. They may not care though…

If printed QR code would be OK, then why not a printed ticket with barcode??

I think it also has something to do with bluetooth. They say bluetooth must be enabled prior to going through the turnstiles. Maybe the QR code, then fetches contact tracing details off each phone via bluethooth.

The phone/email addy/name/address the actual tickets were booked under and paid for ain’t enough. It maybe gets the individual ticket, and contact tracing details of each individual ticket holder matched to seat number, rather than contact details who actually bought and paid for the tickets.

Yes, because people buy tickets and resell them for whatever reason (can’t go, scalping etc). This method ensures whoever presents the ticket and sits at the venue can be traced.

Bluetooth because it can gather data easily without stuffing around with wi-fi signals. (Personally I haven’t come across it though.)

Aside from the obviously awesome use of Bluetooth, connecting music to a karaoke microphone, it’s also quite useful for AirDropping files to a linked device/computer. I can do something cool on the tablet and AirDrop it to Lord Mutant’s computer instantly.

Suppose they have to do it at pubs and restaurants etc too, as well as the footy. The actual individual that attended, not who paid the bill.
