About 15 years ago I was at a party and a drunk took a swing at me because I was ‘one of those university bitches.’ It didn’t connect. He kept going and wiped out the pool table. My partner said nothing. The host said nothing. So I left.
This was before I went to university.

It’s an Americanistic meme phrase:
>Fuck Around and Find Out is a catchphrase warning that taking negative steps will result in unwanted consequences. In 2020, the phrase has become associated with online leftist circles as a warning to liberals that ignoring progressive movements and candidates could lead to unwanted consequences such as a Trump reelection.

“Programming” implies conscious deliberation. While human social behaviour undoubtedly influenced human evolution, up until now this was just another example of blind natural selection.
Humans (or at least some humans) now have the power to modify genes in the lab, which does indeed involve conscious deliberation.

Humans (or at least some humans) now have the power to modify genes in the lab, which does indeed involve conscious deliberation.
As does imprisoning and killing a particular class of humans.
Or banning breeding between humans of specified skin colours.
Or writing religious documents that require most women to have as many children as possible, whilst banning a certain class of men from having any children at all.
Or forcing certain men to adopt a lifestyle where they will father children, when they would have chosen a lifestyle where they didn’t.
To mention just a few.

True but most of those are unlikely to influence human evolution, unlike for example the emergence of speech, which would have set into train all kinds of positive feedback favouring further modifications.

Military practices also.

The whole lot is down to their ludicrous gun laws. The police have to assume that everyone they interact with is armed and willing to use it. Leads to a culture of routine overuse of force and pointing guns at people.
But none of their politicians has the guts to stand up in Congress and propose an Amendment to the big C to put things to right.

But none of their politicians has the guts to stand up in Congress and propose an Amendment to the big C to put things to right.

I’m just saying, if a cop pointed a gun at me I would put my hands in the air and put my trust in a good lawyer.
US state of Chicago officials have released graphic body-camera video footage showing a policeman shooting and killing a 13-year-old boy who appeared to have his hands raised.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-04-16/chicago-police-release-video-shooting-13-year-old-adam-toledo/100073428

Thanks Captain.
Sometimes even the best people are ‘corrupted’ by what they experience.
There was an American, who’d commanded a platoon of Marines in Vietnam. He said that, at first, he thought it rather unfair he could call for air strikes and artillery when ‘the enemy’ had no such resources.
He said that after six months of seeing his men, and his friends, killed and wounded, he was able to see enemy soldiers incinerated, and feel quite happy about it. He wasn’t proud of that.
Possibly it’s the same thing with American police officers, even if it takes longer exposure.

Even complimentary (‘you seem to be very efficient soldiers. You’re a credit to your commander. What is his name, please?’ (so you know just which faction is thinking about shooting you)).
I’ve had guns pointed at me too. by untrained civilians.
Only once has that ever happened. However I had already cut the firing pin off the bolt, in front of him. Before I allowed him to pick it up.
OOPs. I forgot one. My ears still ring and that ear is stone deaf. It was only a .22 cal. But it was an inch from my ear and because I delayed handing him his share of the only cigarette between three of us, he pulled the trigger.
I’ve changed my attitude towards jovialness with people holding loaded weaponry since then.

I don’t know what that officer was thinking of, charging off alone down a dark alley at 2:30 in the morning.
There’s a good chance that he got halfway down it, and though ‘WTF am i doing?’, and reacted as much out of fright to the boy’s appearing as anything else.
Which is not to say that excuses it.

It’s a tough call. It’s easy to say “He should have…” or “Could have…” but we are not in job where one of our co-workers is killed by gunfire per week, which encourages even the most logical of us to shoot first.

well we fucking do see the results of it when people don’t die for a fucking traffic stop, when people get arrested and end up not dying in custody. I really don’t know..
I mean the woman WAS a trainer. She had 25 years experience. If you don’t know by then the difference between the feel of a taser versus a pistol then when are you?
And the whole interaction was needless. See someone with expired plates: take a photo, send them an automatic infringement notice in the mail, don’t tie up police time with a stop.

Plus the weapons are on different sides of your belt, firearm on dominant side. taser on the other. plus she had the firearm in her hand for around 7 seconds before firing. and aren’t tasers usually a bright colour?

so what we’re all implying is, the reason blacks are seemingly disproportionately shot by white cops in the DPRNA isn’t that the white cops are unreasonably often trying to fuck shit up with them blacks, but because they almost always get it right, and it’s just that almost all cops are white and almost all criminals are black

I am resigned to not talking to DV for a while. Got me stumped.
Might be some band called Crazy Kind Of Lightning Pattern On The Seat Of A Shitty Old Sofa.
Divinyls?
I completely misparsed this at first.
Like I read it as:
If you’re ever scared, you’re a bad person.
Remember that.
Bad people don’t care about getting better.

I was noticing recently that in some other languages, the word ‘lisp’ can be pronounced by people who lisp.
In French it’s Zézayer.
Oh wait, the person who put the ‘s’ in ‘lisp’ was German. That fits.
