I heard it was good weather for ducks.
Plenty of them on my abc footage.
Just hanging about spinning some yarn.

or perhaps this shot is more suitable for the weather for ducks?

Nice.
Do you have a photo showing the abdomen in focus?
I’d like to see the shape, colour and pattern.

Don’t get bitten, it could be your obituary.

I was making a pathetic pune on it being an orb weaver spider.
oh the old orbital sequence of life and internment? You may have been confused with ouroboros?

I know this one, or something very like. It’s the commonest jumping spider found in Melbourne. But IIRC not the commonest in Sydney or Brisbane.
I’ve got some half decent photos of interesting Melbourne CBD spiders somewhere, from before I lost the device able to do macro photography. Not on this computer, must be archived.
Mummy and daddy Nephila edulis,

.
I was out camping for a week, the last night it looked like rain so I threw the tarp over the tent.
Come morning it was time to pull up stakes, so off came the tarp, only to find about two dozen
of the above pictured creatures lazing on the top of the tent that dutifully scurried for cover. . . .
…all except ONE…
…of course what appeared to be The LARGEST One, and he wasn’t goin’ NOWHERE!
So I touched it with my finger tip to move it along, it stepped a bit to one side & hunkered down.
hmmm time to get tough.. so I poked at it a bit more forcefully, again, it side stepped & sat down.
As I looked closer I noticed that this big son-of-a-gun had a LOT of Legs…hmmm… leaning in
I began to count them… 6-7-8-9-10- I touched it to make it move so I could get a better count..
5-6-7-8-9-10-11- Wot The Heck? I nudged it again to force it to untangle its spidery limbs…
That’s when it broke in two, and scurried off it opposite directions!
!
oooops… pardon me!

you’ll have to click on the secondary link that opens upon clicking “Harvestman”
which will reveal that our Harvestman is an arachnid that isn’t a Spider
and among other differences, they reproduce via traditional
sexual means rather than passing a sperm packet.
btw
this isn’t the only time this has happened
more recently I accidently interrupted an orgy
by poking a strange multi legged insectoid I was
attempting to identify while leaning out of my scooter.
It was a kadydid as long as your finger & 1/2 a dozen ardent suitors.

The amazing part is that with the naked eye this spider is so small that no patterns can be seen.
In fact, many people wouldn’t see the spider at all and for that matter probably not notice the web either. The whole web is no more than 50 mm in diameter. The spider is a dot in the middle.

It is clearly a very young common garden orb weaver. They all have a sitting Buddha on the abdomen.
Date and Time (Digitized) – 2011:08:16 14:59:05
Quicker than I could start to blink the spider jumped across and stung the insect that is about to arrive then jumped back to the middle.. so fast I hardly saw it let alone captured it.

Between the two photos.

I drove to Casterton and back in the company of a “money spider” this morning. Tiny little thing. I moved it by its web from the steering wheel to the rear vision mirror about 10 minutes into the journey. Then later I moved it across to the other side of the mirror because it was trying to drop gently down onto my left hand on the wheel. Although by the time I got home I’m not sure where it had gone. Perhaps into one of the ducts. It didn’t do me any good. My Tattslotto ticket from last week won a whole $7.05. Still, it was enough to pay for this week’s $3.30 ticket.

At this rate you’ll be a millionaire in just 5,128 years.

Maybe it portends that the new ticket could bring more?

Oh I do buy the odd ticket.
Not a regular gambler though.
Sometimes others buy a ticket for me as well.
Think at work a couple of times the staff lotto won like 25 bucks, which we reinvested. To no avail.

What a come down, that’s just a Huntsman. I expected a large black primitive spider, maybe with bright red chelicerae.
Disappointed.
Esperance.
On the subject of spiders, can anyone identify this one:
It’s obviously Sparassidae, but I’ve never seen one that colour. It could be a juvenile, and appears to be female, though the palps are not really clear enough to be sure.

Should have added, it was found in central Victoria.

Trying to ID invertebrates is a very good way of wasting a great deal of time. The vast majority are not illustrated and journal information incomplete even if you can get hold of any. I ran a blog that included them and despite many good photos, finding any published was minuscule and even if you think you have found one, it invariably turns out to be something else of similar appearance. I gave it away unless I could find an expert to ID them for me.
It is a little different attemting to shoot your own hand while the spider was moving around erratically.
Let us go the whole hog, I do have quite a few spider photos to show but I hope I can hide behind the wall of the word arachnid.. Which of the arachnophobes do you know who would dare venture here?
