I would say the danger now is wind. The fruit are colouring up so I don’t think will get much bigger and hopefully the branches will continue to support the weight. But wind would put further stress on them. On the other hand if you only remove a quarter of the fruit you will still have a huge crop but will reduce the stress.

Do you get fruit fly over there, Thee?

Every single mandy in my mandy crop got fruit-flied this year :( Will be taking some preventative action after the little tree has finished cropping, so I’d love to hear what you guys do…

Victoria is pretty well fruit fly free and fights hard to keep it that way.

pick and prune back to a reachable size (2m sphere). … and fertilise after pruning.

Hard to tell from your photo Thee but which variety is it? Yes you do need to prune it but this is best not done until September October.

I usually find that mandarins rarely stay on the tree very long after they sweeten.
