Subject: Inglorious origins

There is a set of jokes on the web about describing movies in the worst way possible. eg. Wizard of Oz: “A young girl arriving in a strange land kills the first person she meets and thewn teams up with three strangers to kill again”.

Here I do the same for political movements. Do you recognise the following? Can you add to them?

(There are some political movements with glorious origins, but very few.)

“A drunk turns up at a hotel after hours demanding a drink. He kicks a hole in the door and screams insults at the publicans wife. Those staying at the hotel go after him and beat him up, and he dies from the injuries. A ratbag newspaperman uses this as a lame excuse to attack the whole Australian legal system.”

“A wall poster image that had been beautified in a darkroom is used as a springboard for a successful protest against renewable energy.”

“A powerful corrupt politician who is kicked out of his own political party forms a new party with himself as leader”

“A group of violent drunken men is arrested. They turn on one of their own and beat him. He dies of the injuries”

“A woman living rent free in a small town takes umbrage when the whole town is moved a few km down the road”

“A boy is irregularly adopted by a family in order to cheat child welfare. Later, he is exiled for a serious crime. Later, still in exile, he makes a grab at the posessions of his adopted family”.

“A company installs a 20 foot thick membrane to protect people from hazardous waste. The site was sold to a school at a price of $1. Negligence by the school breached the membrane leaving it contaminated. Nobody died.”

“A newspaper report of a fire that lasted 30 minutes was stuck because no photo was taken, so they used a 17 year old photo of another fire.”

Reviled policies by revered people.

White Australia Policy
“This was a demand of the shearers strike of 1891. Drafted by Alfred Deakin, the future prime minister of Australia, in 1901, the year of Federation”.

Assimilation of aborigines into white culture
“Aboriginal activists 1935 to 1940. By this time, aborigines in the eastern states were more white than black and tribal culture there was essentially dead. Killings and other acts of violence on both sides had virtually ceased, so aborigines no longer needed protection.”

The ejection of all nomadic aborigines from central and western Australia
“Aboriginal activists leading up to 1973. The key issue here was minimum wage. Every aborigine living on a farm was to receive at least minimum wage, a payment that was totally impossible for pastoralists to pay, so the result was a complete loss of traditional Aboriginal culture over most of the country.”

It says something is wrong if employers can’t or don’t want to pay minimum wage (which is usually barely enough to survive on)

These people weren’t employers. That’s the problem. Pastoralists were forced to pay a wage to thousands of people they didn’t employ. Squatters and poachers.

To answer the quiz in the OP. The answers for Inglorious origins of political movements and political entities are:

Something very nasty lies just below the surface. There have been many occasions where his highly racist views have been countered with numerous facts and figures, all of which are ignored unless they agree with his opinions. These disguised rants have occurred on a regular basis, sometimes as baits, but also in these more elaborate expressions.

It could be something else though as they don’t make a lot of sense compared to most racist views

I sometimes wonder if Moll posts in cycles. Has one harebrained idea for a thread as a passing fancy and posts then ignores it for a day until the mood returns.

You don’t think his previous rants on Aborigines and Stolen Generations are not racist?

They are yes but stem from something besides racism, like when he is in a certain frame of mind, he posts others similar comments about completely different subjects

I think he likes reading old out of date books that are long discredited and replaced with better researched and more scientific opinion. Yet to him just because he has read them, they are factually more correct than newer versions that have been corrupted or not as complete because the authors did not live in those times..

In continuation, it is as if these old books are treasurers of hidden knowledge and experience that have been lost to modern day research and as such are more truthful and reliable.

From old sources to the latest news I agree Moll doesn’t seem very good at treating information in the appropriate context.

Well I don’t recall Witty leaping to my defence before, so that’s something positive out of this thread.

The comment did come across as a little sarcastic tough.

If you are going to say “racist” can you at least add “jazz hands” so people use the racist tag seriously ? Sadly in our society it’s a sadly it’s a rarely used description for everyone and everything someone doesn’t like.

Let’s bring back racism with the semi colon and make language great again
