How big is the American Empire?

America has hydrogen-bomb-tipped ballistic missiles in at least two locations in Turkey. Three, I think. So we can say that at least Turkey is part of the American Empire. Ditto for most of Western Europe.

America has 24,870 permanent troops stationed in South Korea. So we can say that at least South Korea is part of the American Empire.

From wikipedia, “The military of the United States is deployed in more than 150 countries around the world, with approximately 165,000 of its active-duty personnel stationed outside the United States and its territories. This list excludes active combat situations. Nearly 40,000 are assigned to classified missions in locations that the US government refuses to disclose.”

On the other end of the scale, America is said to have financed the Arab Spring revolutions that were successful in Tunisia, Lbya and Egypt. So we could say that these countries are at least ‘friendlies’ of the American Empire.

Is there any map of the American Empire?

If a US embassy exists in a nation does that count

No. This is not what “empire” means. Empire is direct control over an overseas territory with the express and explicit authority to manage the affairs of the colony, or the legal right of veto over any local legislative body with delegated powers. It also usually means the colony has legal right its own foreign affairs, trade or defence policy.

You need to find other words: influence, hegemony, soft power etc. But don’t go calling it “empire” because it is not.

Summed up in the one word if you had ever read that novel I linked.

Examples like that as well, but I suppose you wouldn’t be allowed in even if it was solely Australian run

Um, no in book “Friday”. I see “lone star confederacy”, “los vegas free state”, etc.

The American Empire would have core states like Turkey, Germany, Britain, Canada that carry on-ground US nuclear missiles. And core states like South Korea, Japan, Philippines that have a large US permanent military contingent.

Then there would be US outposts like Australia, Bahrain and Israel. The US has at least five military bases in Australia and is planning two more according to Wikipedia.

All of those would count as American Empire.

We get into dispited territory on extent of empire with Cuba. Cuba has the US Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. But Cuba continually and ineffectively claims that the base is illegal.

Then there are “friendlies”. Countries with governments installed and supported by the USA, but not directly hosting US troops on the ground.

Consulates do not count, obviously.

No. None of these things count as empire. Empire means direct political control over governance of the territory. The US Congress does not have power of veto over any legislation passed in any of those countries, therefore not an empire relationship.

You can’t go about changing definitions of commonly understood words to suit your argument.
