Researchers see atoms at record resolution
In 2018, Cornell researchers built a high-powered detector that, in combination with an algorithm-driven process called ptychography, set a world record by tripling the resolution of a state-of-the-art electron microscope.

That’s pretty awesome
“Ptychography” – that’s a made-up word if ever I saw one.
The “Science” paper is behind a paywall, so look here https://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/2101/2101.00465.pdf
Ptychography is a phase retrieval approach using a series of diffraction patterns collected by scanning a small probe across the extended sample. Electron ptychography for thin samples such as 2D materials has demonstrated an imaging resolution 2.5 times beyond the diffraction limit of the lenses, down to a 0.39 Å.

Nope, don’t get it. What’s the difference between this and any other transmission electron microscope diffraction pattern analysed using registax?
