The key bit:
“the impact of exploration may be relatively small, but it would be futile as the mine would be out of the question if a deposit was found.”

…kinda’ like going for a proctology exam with no expectation of getting the finger in the END. /-:<

Anything is possible if people can make a lot of money. Rio does not get involved with small mining ventures, so obviously think there is big potential. You will notice that instead of simply saying they will be looking for copper, they are looking for “valuable battery metals” thus making it environmentally friendly.

The spelling errors in that article are woeful. The glossy black cockatoum is of course a cockatoo.
Lake bruster is Lake Brewster.
and of course copper is probably not what they are actually looking for.

From Dubbo to Condobolin and almost all the way to Hillston. I’ve seen the planes doing their geo mapping surveys. They have been covering all of the Riverina between Dubbo and Mildura.
Mining and agriculture aren’t always the best of friends.

Looks like you’re right to be concerned about the proposed RARE EARTH Exploration in your area.

Thing is, what do you want? More coal, gas and oil mining, or more minerals for renewables? You have to have mining of some description. The mines have to also be where the minerals are.

That’s it isn’t it, modern society requires all sorts of things to be dug out of the ground

yep, and usually the naysayers don’t think they, as consumers, are responsible.

I wonder if 3D printers could get to the point they can produce complex electronics from recycled materials from obsolete technology

Think about 2 previous threads:

The lady being evicted from the Crown lands
and the Unlimited credit thread:

“There are people who would work for the sheer love of what they do.”

Roughie puts his heart and soul into the LAND for the sheer joy of it.
Breaking his back as well as the bank planting and watering the plants
changing his little corner of that which was desert into a corner of paradise

Easy for you to claim the better good for the greater number… but it’s not YOUR
bit of hard fought land in question.

Yeah, I have actually been through that. worse part is it wasn’t even for the greater good. which i could have accepted.

Flies, drought, fire, locusts, mice, and now THIS?!?

To be sure, they won’t b digging up my little place on this earth because they are only going to find calcrete.
I’m more than a little concerned for all the orchids and etc.
These hills are all we have left since everything else has been land planed for farming.

Yep. Sure I know that we have a habit of digging all the stuff up that paved paradise and turned it into a parking lot.

This may save the hills if it is what they are looking for?
