Because you got in before the mandatory hotel quarantine time, but according to the ABC news yesterday you have to behave just as if you were in Melbourne : in lockdown at you accommodation. (I had a look at the Qld health site and it looks like they’ve messed up their 1.00ams. But I reckon they will fix that. You were also supposed to have been met at the airport and told what to do. According to the news)

Queensland’s chief health officer Jeanette Young said

“Anyone who has been anywhere in Victoria in the last 14 days, it as absolutely critical if you have symptoms … to come forward and get tested,” Dr Young said.

“If you have been in Victoria in the last 14 days you will have to follow the same processes as if you were still in Victoria and that means you must stay wherever you are, for the next seven days.

“You can’t go to school or university, or childcare: you can’t got work unless you get an exemption but you can do essential shopping.”

The advice on the Victorian Governments website for Victorians travelling to Queensland says not to make eye contact, keep a low profile and avoid driving around on Victorian number plates.
Interesting.

Thank you Buffy and all. Based upon rumour I’ve heard (that is, I have not been formally notified by any method that would stand up in court) they changed the area designated ‘hotspot’ after we had entered the state (landed at Brisbane), while we were in the air on the Brisbane-Cairns leg.

The pilot announced (as we were arriving in Cairns) that there might be restrictions and we are required to check with the government in the place we were landing – I have checked their websites and looked for announcements in the news, and there’s no mention of restrictions.

I suppose you can pretend you didn’t read what the Qld health lady said about “if you’ve been in Victoria in the past 14 days you have to behave as if you are still in Victoria”…

>>From 1am yesterday, anyone who has been in Victoria since May 13 must observe the same lockdown conditions as Victoria.<<

Mind you, I can’t find that on the government sites. But there are quotes from the Premier and the health lady saying that on various news items.

Locking yourself in a shed should be ok.

A caravan would be good, anyone could lock themselves in one, and they can go anywhere.

The best info I can find on the current advice from a government site says monitor for symptoms and get tested if you experience any. Then they give a list: some of which are signs, some of which are symptoms. Is it OK to ignore the signs?

I’m feeling fairly confident that nobody in Queensland cares, by this stage. There’s a hundred opportunities a day for the state government to communicate, enquire, restrict, record, contain, bar, contact, and educate – And they’re not taking any of them.

I see there’s two new cases in QLD today.

I also see the government has updated their web site* to reflect a different start time for the change from ‘City of Whittlesea’ to ‘Victoria’ (blackspot areas) which happened while we were in the air, having already been allowed into QLD at Brisbane.

Based on this, and my experience, I’d suggest that if a live case got off the plane at Cairns airport today, it would go through the joint like a wildfire.

*when I arrived, the last update to the only pages I could find was on the 16th of April last year
