I was thinking of the Grandfather birds from Nation.
Have to look that up.
I didn’t even know TP had a book called Nation.
May the happiness of birthdays be upon you this day…

Nation is a novel by Terry Pratchett, published in the UK on 11 September 2008 and in the US on 6 October 2009. It was the first non-Discworld Pratchett novel since Johnny and the Bomb. Nation is a low fantasy set in an alternative history of our world in the 1860s
Sounds like it’s worth a look.

I haven’t got that one. I’ve got Strata and Dark Side of the Sun. And A Blink of the Screen (which is not fiction)

Ross people brought me this lovely cake and I’ll have a few brandy cocktails to settle the nerves.
But there won’t be any celebrating for this family today, just sitting around waiting for news of the mainland sister and hoping for the best.

Fuck.
Trying to stay positive but the prognosis is bad. She has a clot in one lung and a clot in her heart.
Apparently the usual treatment for the latter is open heart surgery. They’re highly unlikely to attempt that because her general condition was already very poor, with only 25% lung capacity due to Stage 4 emphysema.

Anna’s supposed to be having hers tomorrow, but the medication she’s taking to help keep cancer at bay has blood clotting as a potential side effect.
She’s going to discuss it with the doctor first.
In the meantime, it’s just a matter of waiting for news about Ruth. We’re all hoping it turns out there’s something they can do, but I’m dreading the ringing of the phone.

Seems she can be treated with non-heparin blood thinners and a transfusion of immunoglobulin, which I hope they’re doing.

If it’s not too personal a question, which cancer does Anna have.
I will understand if you decline to answer.
She doesn’t have any cancer at the moment. She had cancer of the uterus which was removed surgically, then later reappeared nearby as a tiny speck that was removed by radiotherapy.
The medication she’s now on is to help keep it from reappearing.

I had a few brandy cocktails and I’m now on the stout. Feeling as relaxed as circumstances allow and keeping the melancholy at bay, so far.

Is 21st wedding anniversary today. Was supposed to be going to Bendigo for the night and eating at some nosh house, The Woodhouse, that SWMBO had her eye on.
Not to be I’m afraid. Instead of dry aged wagyu I’ll be having fish & chips or the like.
