It only became clear what Chris Ume had unleashed in the days after his TikTok Tom Cruise videos went viral in February this year. Then fear started to set in.

Suddenly it felt like the whole world was watching. In a few days, one of the videos, seemingly showing the Hollywood superstar teeing off at the golf course, already had 2.5 million views.

Then it kept climbing to 10 million and beyond. TikTok Tom was becoming a global phenomenon.

I imagine in the near future, official videos (at the very least) are going to need watermarks and digital certificates to authenticate them (ones hard to fake) as being real.

Mostly the damage is fake porn using someone famous who is not a porn star.

They superimpose someone famous onto a porn actor using digital imaging software.

Hence the need for a digital certificate of some kind, they have been around for a while for use in photography copyright.

Or, more likely, give a level of deniability to public figures. “Wasn’t me, must be a deep fake”.

BTW, at this stage the method relies on a massive library of archival video footage of the subject, so is only useful for world leaders and movie stars. But who knows what lays ahead…

I watched foreign correspondent, and thought how much better regular TV smelled after a whiff of deep fakes, I also wondered why Larry my pet dog wasn’t greatly moved by moving pictures with sound on the electric rectangle

the person said just out of curiosity they compared such and such, I said yeah right, political animal like that into activism, did it just out of curiosity………..how likely is that

so there are these special abilities people have for politically neutral curiosity, they are sort of accidents, happen upon interesting things, involve a wandering impartiality, and probably just as keenly unfind inconvenient things also i’d reckon
