Subject: Government funded info during a virus crisis

I challenge all of you to watch this. About 20 mins.

This video was produced by the Gender Centre in Sydney and funded by the NSW Health Dept, about safe sex and drug use practices during the AIDS virus crisis pandemic in 1995.

Similar to today, all sorts of misinformation was being bandied around, however there was no social media, or instant access internet in those days. Never the less, misinformation was rife, and much “it won’t be me” complacency abounded in the wider community.

Tis actually sort of reminiscent of the scene I used to hang around in those days too.

Would such a similar “down to earth truths”, (I’ll call it), government funded video be acceptable in today’s pandemic? (Yes, I do realise that modus operandi of transmission is not comparable)

I mean the current government messaging is pretty matter-of-fact

I was impressed by the randy sociability and permissiveness, of what I saw, it certainly didn’t give the impression of desire deficit that way, indulgence was more the theme

So that wasn’t like the ice bucket challenge at all Woodie!!!!!

I dunno if something like that would work now. That was really really terrible to watch to be honest . Now I’m willing to admit that I know absolutely nothing about the culture then or even now. I mean you took me to my first gay pub and even then I was like wtf is going on here. That video was so super over the top gay that I found it hard to hear the message. That said it wasn’t most likely directed at me so moot point I guess.

Don’t get me wrong I grew up with two mums in the 70,s before it was cool to have two mums so I have no problem with this sort of stuff at all, everyone do you afaik It was just so sort of over the top gay that it detracted from its message….. I dunno….

I think with the over exposure to social media that is today that whatever the gummint put out would be lost in the noise.

PS TAOW just asked me who uses this forum from the old Sssf days.. I rattled off a few names but when I mentioned you she was like omg woodie is there …. I love woodie.

I think we all love woodie!
