Wake up you sleepyheads! Its such a balmy morning, already 22C and the Kookaburras are up and laughing… prolly laughing at the way I look first thing in the morning looking desperately into the bottom of my rain gauge to find nothing inside. I’m sure I heard rain on the roof last night. More likely possumpee.

missus and i are slowly weeding the garden – bed by bed – did i tell you we were boring people?
our mungral young poodle – aphrodite – has discovered digging is good in the damp soil so she needs a bath just to be allowed inside.

speaking of which – that’s a ripper tub (and pooch) you’ve got there HP !. it will test your skill to grow a water garden tho’ – they tend to be quite tricky.

No, no media lol.

But it was an ‘almost’ with a police action thing. Crisis averted however, and the boy settled. You can probably guess from that that we had a late night ‘volcanic explosion’ rage thing happen.

Toy Story the trigger?

Nar, that part was fun. The trigger was a late night phone call and a kid accusing him of something he didn’t do. One does not ever accuse with this kid unless one knows the facts. The fall out is terrible.
Our fault though for forgetting to pull the phone plug out earlier.

Thats in the planning. We don’t change anything whilst the boy is still living here.

When he eventually is in alternate accomodation we have to change phone numbers and house locks. Hubby wants to put a high fence up out front and an intercomm and camera system, and security grill around the front porch so we don’t have to constantly answer the door to feral kids looking for GS.

We had one shower of rain overnight. Just enough to re wet the bath towles still on the line from yesterday. It’s quite humid and the clouds are racing accross the sky from north west to south east. I’d like a ride on one actually.

I’ve been and done some weeding outside the house pad. Don’t do out there very often. Disturbed a walaby without knowing it till it was too late. We both jumped. lol.

The black russian toms are flowering again. The bushes look awful May just pull them out and rely on the romas.

Have to head for town this morning. Desperate for potting mix. Fernery stuff is in need of repotting and now is the time.

Your fernery is all in pots ? can I ask for pics please.. when you can :)

Yes. Most of it is in pots. There are always maidenhairs and things like that coming up in the ground below the benches. OK. My new project will be to get pics for you.

I hear ya. That’s why I’m flat out yawning, couldn’t go back to sleep. and I feel flat. I have a ‘banders’ meet here tomorrow and wondering if I have enough chairs for people .. wondering if it will be warm enough to hold it on the patio. Ect. Silly racing thoughts.

Morning, just polished off some bacon & eggs and a cuppa.

Bacon fat was cut up and fed to Mrs. Maggie. I am not sure but I think I could just make out her babies in the nest. With I had binoculars to have a good look.

Making the dundee cake today.

Also I have a swap with a lady in America and I need to make something from each letter in the word friends.

Going to make a scissor case today for the letter “S”

You might have to become the local bird moderator by the sounds of it. I confess to having stopped magpies picking on their babies at one time. I know I shouldn’t interfere and I only did it once. I still yell at them from the verandah if I think they are going overboard with persecution of some poor feathered friend. I defend my right to object. lol.

Floor mopped, paths swept. I must be getting old. Sleep is no longer required, lol.
Patio is set up for my bander friends meeting. I’ve no need to cook and most of them don’t require feeding, but I’ll make a nice risotto anyway. They’re an excuse to cook ,lol.

I spotted a flower bud on a spring onion and I don’t want to save any seed, so I pulled the lot up. What to do with a barrow full of spring onions … when my head is on the right way I’ll think of something :)

Morning. wake up! (talking to myself) I’m still so sleepy.

Everyday now ‘till the SGA Open Day I’ll be in my garden planting ,repotting, pruning and weeding and feeding or any one of the 100 things to do to get it ready. I’m so excited :)

Lawn areation and feeding today. I get to jump up and down on a garden fork. What a blast, lol. I have the big pondy tub of water for it.
I’m going to get one of those Casurina ‘cousin it’ plants for a tall skinny pot and place it in a sunny bare corner. I love running my hand over them.

My potted plants in the ‘intensive care unit’ are looking better, and the cutting from my fave pink azalea has buds :D

Howdy everyone. I missed Monday. Thank heavens it’s followed by a Tuesday.

I have a Cousin It in a tall pot HP. Like you, I luv it. It’s so unusual. Haven’t had mine all that long but it’s grown heaps. Might have to take It to the hairdresser for a trim if it keeps going.

You might also like Juncus effusus spiralis (check it out on Google Images.) It’s a curly, twisting water plant. Can send you some if you’re interested.

Hi Pomolo :)

Just had a look at images of that , never seen it before, it’s cool! Thank you for your offer, but how do you send a water plant piece in the post ?? I would love some :):)
Does it grow all year ? What depth?
But I can look about here first then let you know… I’ll get back to you on that ok.

I think i’m going to take the potted water Iris out of the pond, after the open day anyway, as it grows too fast and tall and blocks off the sun to the water lillies. The compost heap is full of the leaves. I could cut it down almost daily and it rockets back up. That’ll be a job because it’s in a pot with only brick halves to anchor it.

Morning HP if you are still here :)

How is GS? Haven’t heard any news so I hope everything is relatively peaceful :)

Yes good ,thanks. The quiet is errie and takes some getting used to. The big boy visits us often, but he’s been very quiet. We have an appt here tomorrow wth psych ,vcat rep, and case manager to discuss aspects of the guardianship order. Once that’s in place they can do a lot more for the boy re programs and course’s for him.

Then I have to change into ‘gardening mode’ and head off to the club meeting for the committee change over. I just have to remember to take the correct paperwork ,lol.

We’ve got bees (don’t know whose bees tho’) harvesting from the front callestimon (F7)…the back ones are yet to bloom…I was looking at the front one and I said to MrD that they bloom too early (spring) or too late (autumn) because otherwise they’d be great Christmas trees…not to be chopped down, of course…

well the Possums are playing rough on the backyard this morning, so mr carpet snake hasn’t eaten all of them yet… there’s a boobok owl in the trees outside, the back verandah is full of frogs. And some one has a Rooster somewhere. I can hear the Curlews too.

MrD said we don’t have the curlews here at the moment…

I doubt one snake would eat a lot of possums, not sure if any in Oz could open their jaws enough (willing to be advised here) a snake might eat one possum….they only eat when hungry and I would be surprised, given the size of the possums, if a snake would swallow more than one at a time….

if you’ve got possums you might need to look into netting for your fruit trees…how many mango trees do you have? because between the fruit bats, the possums and the birds, one tree is going to be depleted in no time…

You do have your house screened / sealed so the possums can’t get into the roof cavity? Many councils have this as a compulsory requirement…I’m told that if a possum pees on your ceiling then you can’t get rid of the smell…

What an excellent forum recap :) All I can remember of refrigerator is something like “Reeeeefrigerator, why are we always sooner or later, bitchin’ in the kitchen or crying in the bedroom or night” – but I have the CD in the stack I plan to listen to after lunch today :D

Dear blender, won’t you help a first defender – oh, trash can, don’t you put the dirt on me!

We have possums in the roof at work from time to time. Lots of stains, and this one time the pee dripped down onto some computers, but no lingering smell. However, that could be due to the ceiling structure – it’s very different from the kind of ceiling you get in houses. Or it actually stinks but we’re all used to it and don’t notice? :D

Yeah, back before we called them Year 8 or 9 or 12, the High School years were called 1st year, 2nd year or 5th year. Seeing as I am younger than most here, I thought you’d all would have grown up with the latter…

according to my book, our snake when older should be capable of eating small dogs and cats…

We have a Mango Orchard, or I prefer to call it a Grove. The Bats are currently eating the Calliandra blossom. The Cockies are eating the Mangoes.

The possums cannot get into the house, they live outside, one in a coconut tree, one in a gum tree, one in the shed (but we have not seen her for a while) and one on the back verandah (we say g’day to him some days, he his there this morning, trying to sleep)

And yes, possum pee in the roof is not good.

G,morning my ‘dirt’ friends :)

I’m getting organised for the upcoming events.. hosp bag packed for sudden departure in case this cyst decides to explode, lol (niggly sharp pains this am) Most important thing on my list: shave legs!!

Hard rubbish collection planned for 1st of Oct..all the stuff in the carport is piling up, mostly GS’s bed and furniture, and an old couch and chairs. You’re not allowed to put it on the nature strip, must be on your driveway so the cars will be parked out for a day.

And, SGA people rang to ask if they could store trays of seedlings at my place, for handing out to Open day visitors.. I said thats fine, how many?… 800!! trays and trays..Eekkk.

Cars will have to stay out on the street longer..

Painter is coming back this weekend to finish the main bathroom, then we can replace the right fitting and no one will have to pee in there in the dark…

And a new hose/ tap connection for the washing machine today, as it decided to burst and flood the laundry. I wondered what that hissing sound was, making Max bark madly.. I hadn’t washed lately and it was sitting on the floor.. now have piles of dirty and wet washing to do. Might have to call in the brigade (daughters to help)

Good morning to all…we had a short sharp 1.5 inches last night (I think, maybe it was only 1?) but it flooded the back deck right up to and under the refrigerators…Sonny Jim was stuck, he parks the (petrol, 2 wheel drive) work ute on the blacksoil and it’s never been a problem, but after that little deluge this morning MrD had to get up and pull him out with the 4 WD patrol…Sonny Jim is going to leave the work ute in the work shed until the black soil dries out…MrD had already left the Mondeo down at the front gate…if I win the lotto I’m upgrading the driveway to all-weather and getting a hardstand laid down in front of the house…our potholes there require rapelling equipment to climb out of…

HOWEVER I am not complaining…the wheat farmers are, a little bit, but any rain is good rain up here…the native shrubs are blooming with joy….reckon it will be a good year for whoever’s hive it is that these bees belong to…

Oh yes….they’ll learn very quickly what the sounds around them mean….including the back door.

GS kept me awake clattering about in the kitchen and what a mess he’s made. I’ve cleaned it up ( the kids in no mood to help) and I will have a snooze after brekky and getting the man off to day shift.
Fun fun fun.

nope. Kippered Herring from a tin. We don’t have a dam unfortunately, the ducks would love one. I don’t think we really have the space, would have to lose a few trees…

Good morning all…it’s cloudy at the moment, I think we have the scrag end of the rains down south…still drying out from the last lot but heck all rain is good, so I won’t complain …

My potted frangipani are flowering, hopefully the scent will rise in the next few dawns and dusks…also one of my geranium is flowering splendidly, I think the secret may have been the odd allocation of worm wee over the winter…and a thingamebob…the living vase plant…looks like it has a flower coming up…the frogs love this one…

The caladium have burst into leaf, time will tell if the common one has survived the winter, it’s potting mix is like rock…maybe I should have repotted it when I bought it…I may have some speckled leaf caladium to give away after this season, say late April early May next year….or pot it up and donate it to the church for a fete…so put your hands up if you want any…could be 3 -4 bulbs…

My adenium that I repotted, rotted…the one that fell out of its’ pot is doing fine, in a cardboard box in the study…I really need to get that out…

Off to put Sonny Joe’s uniform through the dryer, another coffee, washing up…a day off catches up with you doesn’t it?

Yes I do (need a whole day for gardening)…too stuffed after big race day on Saturday, running the kids around town (looking for a party, thankfully there were none, pubs shut and locked down by 10:00 pm…)until late at night…slept for half of yesterday and read a new book the other half…sooo far behind in the housework…and this is the basic stuff (like washing up and laundry)…

Good luck with the DHS and the specialist’s report…

Oh good, thanks Pomolo…I don’t stock much of this purpose flour, as you know in our heat it goes “off” somehow although I suppose I could keep it in the freezer…if I find the What R U cooking thread I’ll let you know how it goes…just a simple meal from The Cook and The Chef…

yep – rain coming so best to spread the manure and mulch prior to its arrival.
the coliban and desiree spuds have been in since august and properly mulched and all but the birds plus time had exposed a few tubers. so i returned with manure and mulched and fix them up.
a whole host of jobs actually – do them as they come to mind.

most pastries call for plain flour. Not knowing how much flour you are adding the BP too, I’d hazard a guess that it would be less than needed to make it up to SR flour.

I don’t mind their coffee most of the time…the production line service is a turn-off…I have discovered a locally-owned (Greek) cafe that sells good coffee…exy but worth it for a treat…plus you can sit on the pavement and watch the world go by as a bonus…(they’ve got a dining set up on the footpath). The local council, during refurbishments, factored in some square metre plots at the front of this cafe…

We had to do that on Monday but for blood tests. I was even tempted to suck a cough lolly which was the only suckable thing in the house but I didn’t. No trouble with the ‘take on an empry stomach’ pills when I got home though.

Bless him, my dad stocked up with really high quality, delicious chocolates for after my colonoscopy/endoscopy. I hate fasting with a passion, I’m so bad at it. I drive everyone crazy because I can’t stop thinking about how hungry I am. By the time I was picked up from hospital and had already had a nice sandwich and a cuppa tea, my previous ridiculous, enormous chocolate craving had completely disappeared, but it’s the thought that counts :) I spent ages before the day fantasizing about exactly what delicious chocolate I would eat when I was allowed to eat again – didn’t realise anyone was paying that much attention :D

Five min walk down the street.

He’s bought the shop next door as well now and has opened a coffee lounge with big soft sofas.

coffee dreaming – very nice. melbourne’s lygon street had cafes that i enjoyed.

lol PM, 20 to lunchtime..

I was up but busy. Got to get ready to spend the day, from 11 am, at the orchard perfecting my pruning technique :)
Those huge multi trunked old fruits are going to get the haircut of their lives.
(yesdy’s orchard pruning session was for committee members as it turned out, so I didn’t have to be there at 3pm)

The man is on arvo shift atm so I’m made him some lamb rolls he can reheat for his lunch.

JJ is off with his sister and her hubby on their boat fishing for the day. He loves boats and fishing as much as I do. He scarpered off with some lamb rolls early.

No worries, myself and a couple others like me, will be under the guidance of several masters :)

There’s about 50 trees left in the orchard that once held over 500 trees.

G,morning to yous too. There’s a bunch of birds having a blast bug bashing the bushes here, lol, very noisy. Methinks the bugs might be locusts but there’s plenty of moths being snatched up on the wing. The rain has the insect world on the move and they’re coming inside too.
I squished the biggest white tail spider I ever saw just now. It appeared from behind my PC desk on the wall and then it calmly walked scross my keyboard.

Took one thong off foot, smack and spidy annihilated.. bit hard but the keyboard is obviously ok! lol :)

Got all geared up to do my morning rounds and it started to rain. Not exactly rain in the true sense of the word. More like misty fog. Enough to wet my glasses to make seeing near impossible. Early morning checks aren’t much fun if you can’t see anything. Now, of course, the sun is out all bright and shiny.

D and I are going to go somewhere today. Don’t know where yet but feel the need to get out of the place for a day. Probably just do a bit of a drive and see if we can spot some roadside bargains. There is always moo poo or horse poo to be bought for a couple of bucks a bag. Will hopefully get some fruit and vegie roadside bargains too. A big fat tray of paw paws sounds good. Luv my paw paw. Mine aren’t ripening yet. I’d like to come upon some mangoes for sale but doubt there is any chance of that happening.

Mightn’t have to go at all now. I’ve been already, judging by my previous paragraph. I’ll let you know what happens.

Merry Monday Morning to everyone. Not so merry actually. #4 plover dead. I can’t work out why it’s died. Also found a dead maggie too. Poison: I hear you ask. Not from here it ain’t. D chucked the bodies in the long grass but over the day Mr & Mrs Plover must have dragged it back out into the open. They are mourning something fierce and will not leave the carcass. Still diving and swooping on anything that gets too close.

On the other hand we still have kookaburras feeding babies and crested pigeons on eggs. This morning we had a whip bird and the Koel having a voice competition. We are a bit over the koel so the whip bird won. There is one more bird sounding off around the place that I don’t know. I’m working on finding out it’s name. Never seen it, only hear it.

Morning :)
I’m expecting a quieter day today!

Guess what.. I’m going to be invited to join the w’bee park heritage orchard committee!! This means so much to me :D But the last in the way of committee’s I will join otherwise I’m spreading myself too thinly.

There’s heaps planned for the orchard over the next year with festivals, harvest festival, blossom festival, and one extra per year for apples which I reckon should be named ‘hard core festival’, sausage sizzles, expos , sustainable gardening, grafting and pruning days. ect
I’m being grabbed for my cooking skills and making preserves and quince pastes for selling. As well there will be bee hives installed.. I can see honeycomb :)

Sustainable gardening and recycling is of special interest to me and especially a win win win situation I can see happening.

The businesses’ around can help each other in a very sustainable way whilst lessening our carbon footprint at the same time. The horse centre on one side can chuck it’s manure over to the orchard, then excess apples can go to the winery on the other side to make cider, which the orchard can sell as a fundraiser. Also collection of stormwater and greywater from the businesses to feed the orchard.

Becoming a committe member also means I won’t get stuck at the gate trying to convince security to let me in lol.. I’ll have a code :)

Busy busy!

Morning. Just a pop in today. I have to do my stint at the Centre. It’s 30c here and it’s only 9:15am. I don’t think that’s funny. I went out onto the verandah and rested my hands on the railing. Pretty sorry I did that because it’s scorching.

I think storms are predicted for the next three evenings and I hope one of them rings true. It’s full time keeping things watered.

Chopped out the feral lychee from the native garden. A shame though because it was a lovely tree. It’s place has already been taken by a baby Grevellia “Shirly Howie.”

Be back this arvo. Stay happy you lot.

Woo woo woo!

This is the upside of the mystery rash.. It’s before 8, I am up and out of bed.. and I don’t have to go to work! (I was told not to come in until it’s been identified in case it’s contagious). This is even better than a weekend – we went to bed especially early last night to catch up on the sleep we missed the night before, so I’m actually moderately awake. It’s a rather odd feeling to not have the slightest urge to yawn at this time of morning =/

I will allow myself a leisurely breakfast, but then I’m going to gently potter for the day. Get in some washing and put some more on before it gets too hot, then I have plenty of things to do inside.

Busy busy!

I think we might need a new word for you – uber-busy? Or perhaps I should just stop using the word busy when I have one or two things to do :D

Well done HP, that’s fantastic – you really do seem to spread a ripple of positivity and excitement everywhere you go :)

good morning folks. still unpacking! I am getting fed up with it but there are still some things I need that I haven’t come across yet. Heading back to Melbourne tomorrow to pick up a couple of things left at the house and to return the trailer I borrowed. Made an appt. with the chiro while I am down there. My back has been holding up rather well considering but I am feeling the need for an adjustment.

it’s a big bonus to have the space to pack everything away. but all the walking, bending and sorting does wear you out.

Three simultaneous chat threads – brilliant!! So if we’re having at least half a dozen sub-hijacks per thread, that’s an average of 18 or so topics that really could have had their own threads, so that we could hijack each of those ….

Ain’t no way to control it!

It’s Catch 22 Bon. It’s lovely in the bedroom with the aircon on, but I can’t stay in here all day and it makes going out horrible. I’m getting by with the fan as long as I can.

Plus aircon is expensive to run.

There are worse things on the internet to get hooked on.

My mother (who turns 69 tomorrow) is an online games addict. The most she does on Facebook is let us know her high scores in arcade games – bejeweled and tetris and bouncing ball thingies. Mostly because she is sick to death of tv, books aren’t interactive and she lives in a small village, my dad’s not a chatterbox, she has health problems and can’t get around much.

Gee, I’ve got much different plans for when I’m that age ;) just hope the health problems aren’t catching!

But it’s all the other fixing things I do too…. I am allowed to stop trying to fix everything. Ok I can try that!

lol! Def’ no supa woman here either, and the bathtub is grubby. I think the psych may have been referring to the emo’ me more than the physical. Well I won’t stop excercising (that’s what I call running about) lest my arthritus kicks in to stop me moving, or diabetes returns.
But at least i know I’m not insane, not yet anyway LOL.

It kills me tho’ when they ask when was the last time you had a holiday… as if that would fix things. Going away anywhere for an extended period only makes things worse in our lives, as we have found. A week is ok.

I need more friends + cuppas in my life but this fulltime work lark puts inconvenient constraints on my time :(

My favourite holidays are when the rest of my family goes away and I’m home alone for, say, a week.

Nowadays when I have time off work I want to cram in as much as possible of the things I can’t to on weekends, mostly involving distances and travel.

My uncles galah had a wild friend and they started leaving his cage open. It was a very gradual process but eventually he left home for good and joined a flock.

Morning one and all. Sort of dull here this morning. No storm yesterday but maybe today is going to be the day. It was a hot night last night. The first in a long line of hot nights to come I suppose.

Can anyone fill me in on where Dinetta has gone? She disappeared when I was away on one of my jaunts.

Was on the phone to my sister in SE Qld last night, I was in bed with my flannie pjs and woolly socks, under 2 doonas with the electric blanket on.

She couldn’t believe it!

Morning Pomolo. I can’t remember where D said she was going to, only that they were going away.

Cool and overcast here, really dull. But good for some photography ;)

Porridge is on and tea brewing.
The birds are chirping, the weeds are growing and the sun is out :) I have some garden stuff to do then spending the arvo cooking.
Another plum pud to make too. Two actually.

Spring is very sprung here at the Pomolorosa. Babies Babies everywhere. Baby Wallaby. Just leaving mum’s pouch sometimes. Baby Black Ducks. (4) Baby Moorhens. (4) Baby Crested Pigeons. (1) so far. Baby Kookaburra/s. Ready to leave the nest for sure. It’s hard to tell because even with binoculars you can’t see inside their termite mound nest. I’m just working on the time factor. Found an egg in a very low to the ground miner bird nest. Not that that’s amazing. They breed like flies round here.

All interesting observations and these are the ones I can see. Heaven only knows how many babies are happening that I am unaware of.

For Bubba: Native bees (I don’t know which one) have taken a liking to the pollen of my bedding begonia. There are always at least 3 with swollen pollen sacks flying from flower to flower. They do no like the white flowering ones though. Fussy little blighters.

Morning! We have a dul, misty rain, windy, cool day. ‘Aint it great! Just what we wanted. I am just hopin that we get a few more mls rain to add to our 5mls.

More baking to be done today. It’s mostly stuff I can freeze for Chrissy. I’m still looking for some of my usual recipes that I make for christmas. A ham & carrot & mushroom terrine one is missing although I know it’s here somewhere. If I have to go through all my recipe cut outs I’ll be here till Christmas eve.

I made a date and carrot bar cake yesterday (for the first time) and it tastes good. Easy too. Luv easy recipes.

I’m off to get started.

Morning all!! :D

You guys will be so proud of me.. it’s 8:13 on a Sunday, and I’ve been out in the garden since 7:10am!!

I woke up very uncharacteristically early, somewhere around 6am, because I was too hungry to sleep. Watched GA while having breakfast, then thought, what the hey, instead of having my weekend morning cuppa I shall go and do some gardening! Only I forgot the dishwasher needed to be done (finally got the sewerage pipe unblocked last night), so it was after 7 by the time that was done.

I’ve just popped back in because it’s sprinkling with rain, so I thought I would have my cuppa while I check out the radar. If it’s only going to be light sprinkling rain I’ll get back out there.

Geez, normally I’d still be in bed right now :D

It’s a habit I’d love to have, but I usually need to sleep in on the weekends to make up for not being able to sleep for as long as I’d like during the week.

This week was a bit all over the place what with the mystery rash, so I must have a full sleep tank for the first time in forever!

I’ve got the backyard as grass-seed-free as possible – that is, I’ve pulled all the weeds but there are grass seeds all over the ground still :(

Still got the driveway and front yard (and eventually verge) to do, but the sun’s come out so it’s officially too hot – inside time until the cool of the evening. And actually then I need to be doing fruit fly stuff, more urgent than the weeding.

It’s warm and windy and I’ve already spent an hour or so out in the garden cleaning up, weeding the corn and mulching and trimming tomato plants. Got a bowl of strawbs for my brekky. I’ll be picking zucchs this weekend. First time I ever grew eggplant and they are coming along well. Small capsicums galore :)
I got Max a large marrow bone and at the moment nothing else exists, he’s lovingly gnawing it out on the path.

Oh yeah, it’s morning. It’s raining :) I’m taking it easy today, not. I have so much to do, cooking to do and gardening..pull out the rest of the tomatoes and clean up the fernery from the frame rebuild, and apple sices to make.
And I have still to rebuild the path side of the retaining wall from when some yobbos walking past threw some of the rocks onto the road. Rotters. But we were half expecting this sort of thing to happen, so it’ll need a rebuild using the biggest rocks, still have plenty in reserve, and make it a double wall with concrete in the middle. That’ll stop them from being dislodged. Then I’ll build a stepping stone path to the meter’s using all the left over rocks and gravel.

I have some, I think anyway, fertile eggs to set. Eggbert has been very busy! I’m just waiting for one of the silkie hens to go broody and I’ll pinch her for the chook nursery.. an empty worm farm tray in a small caged area on the patio :) I’d be happy with keeping just silkies after the Isa browns get too old to lay. They’re fun to keep.

might not get broody until Spring. Winter is a bit iffy for raising chicks anyway.

I remember when I lived right up north (many moons ago) they ended every sentence with an “eh.” Like everything they said was a question.

11^o^C at 9:50am. Looking at maximums around 14/15^o^C and minimums around 2/3^o^C this week, with -1 predicted for tomorrow night. Nice :)

Here I am again. Another beautiful day in paradise. I bet you all wish you were here.

Nothing startling to report. Just peace and quiet and all day to enjoy it. There is a 4 star movie on at noon so I am going to work around it. Lunch and a midday movie. My idea of bliss.

I’ll do the washing and probably the vacuuming and that’s it.

Ho Hum………….

BTW we had pea and ham soup for dinner last night. I’m already looking foreward to leftovers tonight.

AND…and…and I never made it by starting with stock.

It’s a reference to my Pea and Ham soup making efforts.

There seems to be a little confusion here. I didn’t start with stock. I just cooked the ham bones in water and then drained them and refrigerated the liquid (let’s call it stock) to remove the fat. After that I finished the soup as per normal.

It’s just to do with the little chat we were all having about making a stock for pea soup. I went on the hunt for pea soup recipes after that and some do use stock. I don’t think it’s necessary.

I didn’t know you could cook a pea and ham soup with stock? But the method sounds terrific for skimming off the (excess) fat…thanks for the tip…

Morning! Doing a bit of baking today. We are going on a picnic tomorrow for Mother’s Day. Have invited friends to join us. Neither of us will have children at home for the special day so we are going to celebrate it in our own way. I love picnics in the bush with a bit of water in the scene somewhere. There will be a lot of water there tomorrow because we are going to the local dam reserve. Can’t wait.

I know you are all jealous arent you?

Oh yes, that sounds nice, I’m envious :) I wish I was joining yous.

I totally forgot about Mothers Day. My kids always ask me what do I want for mothers day and I reply world peace and someone to do the hand washing. So they groan an buy me some small thing.
But when they ask me that today, I’m going to say I want this tea light candle holder I saw in a nursery. It’s cute!

But my lemons are still not ready. Only a few ripe.

Hello from wet SEQ. It’s drizzled most of the night. Still doing so. Inside jobs today. I’ve just cleaned out the refrigerator. Long overdue. Isn’t everything? Found a piece of pumpkin that was hardly recognizable ‘cept for the seeds. Bad Nana.

I think I might have the Blahs today. Must be the weather. Don’t want to do anything really. It’s a good “book” day so maybe that’s where I end up.

We have squeezed about 20kg of lemons again this morning. Made some up into drinkable juice and the rest is frozen. The tree is more or less stripped now so shouldn’t have to do any more juicing of the sour variety.

That’s it for now. Stay well, be good and laught a lot.

You’re not a bad Nanna, because you recognised the pumpkin in the fridge. When you can’t tell what the heck it was, then you’re a bad Nanna.

ZeeZee has found a place under the doona and she ain’t movin. I did a very quick walk around. Didn’t discover anything unusual so I hiked it back inside in a hurry.

My main job today is to get the Kalanchoe plants into the post for those who wanted tham. Even if they spend the w/e somewhere in a post office it won’t do them any harm. They won’t even know it’s happening.

I just realised that I was last on yesterday and first on this morning. I’ve got to get a life.

Good morning back to you Pomolo :D

It’s chilly here but I am still struggling (unsuccessfully ) with this cold, which has indeed descended to my lungs…people can hear the burble without hugging me, so I will take it for a walk this morning and force a bit of a clean out, if my throat can stand it. Have told MrD it’s texts only today (that’s a “T” on either side of the “ex”, my dear fellow) as I wish to let my throat rest.

We have had baby frogs, only slightly bigger than a 5 cent piece, hopping hopefully across the carpet, I’m thinking of putting some spare 4 inch piping alongside the house and covering it with the wheat straw, that might make a nice winter home for them?

ZeeZee is smart…the cats have found their sheltered place in the sun and have been fed…Dipstick continues to sleep on my shoulder (as I lie on my side) …. have been taking a hottie to bed with me…I wish Puta would spend the night at my feet, she is no trouble (she weighs 18kg, solid bone and muscle) and keeps my feet so delightfully warm…

Sounds like you might get quite a few frosts in the hollows this year, Pomolo…

I was thinking. the fellow that did my elbow was Mr (Dr?) Propper at Cabrini. He specialises in upper limbs. He did a fantastic job on me using a new procedure. If you didn’t have anyone in mind, maybe try and get a referral for him? (Assuming he is still there.) It is a private hospital though. Don’t know if you have medical insurance or not.

Thanks BG, that is very helpful!
I had an inkling I’d seen a Dr Bell there years ago and I looked in my receipts and scans and yes indeed I had, for an elbow that suddenly decided to blow up like a balloon (rhumatoid arth) Proff Bell is an elbow and shoulder specialist.
I have his details now so I will go see my GP this arvo and read him the riot act. I have pvt health ins but because this is a pre-existing condition I have to wait for the 1 year to be up, which is in July.
Right, I’m ‘armed’ and ready and I shall lift rocks again.. one day :)

Wrapped up in MrD’s DrizaBone (you forgot to take yours, didn’t you PM?) and the cold still seeps through. Slept better, thanks for asking, the cats slept with Sonny Jim last night, I think the feather doona must be warmer than my blankets if you’re a cat…

There is a backhoe coming to fix the sinkholes in our driveway…the lad that’s staying with us can operate a backhoe (but doesn’t have a ticket) and he’s volunteered to move the rotted basalt into the sinkholes if we hire the backhoe. Good trade!

Apart from that I think I might need a beanie but nobody knows where they are…haven’t looked at the temps…

It’s dark and raining and very cold here. I emailed a retired friend whinging that I’m bored already and she replied with an itinerary of what we will do today, bullet points and all lol!

1. Bunnings for whatever. Rug up. I think it’s snowing in their carpark.
2. Cuckoo’s Nest, with complimentary drinks and nibbles.
3. Fish and chips for lunch (my shout)

‘Cuckoos Nest’ refers to the movie One flew Over the Cuckoos Nest’ dvd, because neither of us had seen the move in whole, just bits and parts. This time there won’t be any distractions.
And the B shop has extended their nursery section so we want to check it out and if there’s any specials hehe.

You didn’t need to look at the readings D. It was a freezer. 4c when I arose. We had to be in town early and I wasn’t happy about it. I’m back to trying to pick the best time of the day to have my shower. There isn’t really a good time in winter. Hair washing time takes extra planning. lol.

That sounds like the best way to spend a cold day.

Morning. Actually it’s goodnight..I’m just on my way to bed because I’ve been in the emergency dept because of asthma. They O’d‘ed me with half hourly ventolin and I have the shakes really badly. Jelly belly eat ya heart out. I’m lucky if I get a touch of asthma once a year or 2. It’s the sudden change to cold weather the doc said. And I was running about all day in the cold and got caught in the rain twice. See, that’s what happens.. I give up the dreaded cigs and I get asthma. Don’t cheer for me, it might be another fail.
I might go back to the rotten fags because I was healthier then! LOL
Bit of toast and a cuppa, then have another go at trying to sleep ;P

Hahaha media! I managed to fight them off LOL. They have chosen someone else from the shoestring group :)

Thanks, I’ll be right! I actually have a busy day ahead, but I can sleep in..meeting a friend at lunchtime and we are going lillypilly picking. I’m not the climbee, just the bag holder. Last day of brining a bucket of olives too and then I can bottle them. And get a bluddy humidifier, it’s not the cold so much causing my asthma as walking in to a warm dry air house after being out in the moist cold air.
Right, bed is calling. I am soooooooooooo tired .

I bought a new one yesterday, a Vicks one. Sonny Joe said it was good. Can you organise to spend a few hours or even a day, beside the sea side, cos I find the sea air does a power of good if the lungs are glue-y.

Just the boyz sandwiches to make and I can get on with the clothes folding. Might even fork over the front bed after my walk. How long to potatoes take to grow?

I’ve had my little walk around and made a discovery. My Dizygotheca is laden with buds. I have grown this plant as an indoor in pots for many years. When I lost one I bought another. This particular one got planted in the tropical garden area and it’s been there for years. The foliage shape changes when it’s grown in the ground but I have never seen one in flower before. I doubt it will be spectacular but it gets berries after flowering so it will be interesting.

It’s not condusive for picking the stigmas of the saffron flower that’s for sure, lol. They’re like babies, they arrive when they feel like it.
I have a preventer to take just for the winter and prednisalone tabs for 3 days. More to add to my meds list but as long as it keeps me gardening, this is a good thing ;)

That’s easier said than done of course. The tree is tucked in behind the Philodendrum saloom (huge. 4 trunks) but behind a Phoenix palm and a Mexican flame shrub (I think that’s it’s common name. I forget the botanical) Somehow I will have to shoot it from above and if that means I have to climb a nearby tree then foirget it. LOL.

Morning from here too. We’re all ready to hit the trail. The road for getting on the train is a long one with visits to………
1. Deliver biscuits
2. Take dog to kennels.
3. Find a chemist that’s open.
5. Find an ATM.
6. Deliver car to parking venue.
7. With any luck the next call is the station.

Then we let it all hang out. Yay!

Be good you lot. I’ll be back before you realise I’ve even gone.

Good morning. We have had steady gentle rain most of the night. I have taken today off, so I think I had better restake the Brussels sprouts experiment. They have been growing for months and months and I thought bamboo stakes would be sufficient. But they are nearly as tall as me now, so will need a tomato stake each. I haven’t actually had any sprouts off them yet, and in theory it is waaaay too late, but I’ll leave them be and see what happens. There are only three or four of them and I have the space. I should probably whack some more seed in and get the next lot on the go if they are going to be biennials!!

Morning all.
It’s overcast and stormy but we’re not getting any significant rain from it. It’s humid and I’m sweating buckets so keeping up the fluids. I’m covered in Max’s fur too so I’m looking forward to a cool shower.
Le doggy has a vets appointment mid morn and I gave him a good brushing as he really needed it. He had some matting because I couldn’t brush him with the arm out of action, and no one else here knows how to brush a cocker spaniel with their many layers of thick fine fur.
Vets appt is to check out an ugly sore on the side of his jowel. I didn’t see it because it’s well hidden on his bottom lip, but I smelt bad breath and he’s never had bad breath before. It might be nothing but I’m guessing an infection because of the smell. He’s due for a check up for his eye op and ears soon anyway.
Ta ta for now.

good tip there IB. And would provide some nitrogen for the young trees as well?

Just as well I took him, he has a grass seed in his ear and the pain would have been awful! :( Max is a bugger for not indicating pain. They tried and tried to get it out but it was too deep so he’s been admitted for a 10 min anesthetic and then home about 3.
The mouth prob is an infection and if antibiotics don’t clear it he will have to go back for further investigation. His teeth are perfect.

Yes indeedy.. they will be dug in or mulched.. depending upon how well they make beans.. At present they are tasy like green peas.

Which month did you sow the seed? As I have pointed out before.. cuttings may be taken of Brassica and they’ll grow. Plus that most Brassica can be grown indefinitely.. until something else other than the gardener kills them.

Getting them to produce out of season may be slightly more difficult.

Can’t remember, too long ago. Same time as I did the Chinese broccoli which had been, produced for ages and gone. Odd.

Morning! I’ve got the breadmaker doing it’s thing. Bread has become so expensive (for me that is) that I have decided to bring the neglected implement back into existance. It might yet be a trap because we’re sure to eat more of it than we should. That’s the reason it was put into the back of the cupboard last time. Will willpower and control take over? I have my doubts.

Speaking of making bread, we had to take a rush trip into town yesterday morning to get some yeast. The pre-pack bread flour I had bought didn’t contain any yeast. The pack had printed in the bottom RH corner that it contained yeast. I didn’t find any so was a bit miffed. Then I saw it! The word “not” also in the RH corner. “Yeast not included.” There was a deep fold in the paper of the packet and the not word wasn’t visible in the crease. Not only do we have to read the labels of everything for the ingredients, salt content, country of origin, etc. etc., now I have to be sure there aren’t any folds in the packets as well.

Gripe over. Your turn.

Morning, it’s a late one for me. The sun is out at least.
I have a new womens meeting to go to, first one and not sure what it’s about. Information sessions/guest speakers, trips away, training, anythings possible. It should be good.
Then arvo I have a feast to cook for tea for a special guest, eldest daughters new boyfriend, who we’ve nick named GIJoe.
Likeable lad, but with a couple things to learn. Like don’t play games on your mobile phone during the ‘meet the mother’ meet n greet. If the girl lets this one stay about (she goes throught them!) I’ll havta straighten him out. He’s in the ADF and going away. This situation is very agreeable with this daughter as she’s always wanted a boyfriend who spent periods away! lol.

Think January is the month it should be sown. Otherwise they don’t create sprouts.

The only thing I am not 100% happy about my bread machine is the hole left by the paddle. Of course I also miss the hands on approach..

Morning from us too, me and Max. He is a lot better thank goodness, and his mouth sore is clearing up.
I however, need to see my Dr for a chest inf. Bugga. I don’t think I’ll go to quilting today, coughing and spluttering.

A little funny moment from last night family meal to meet GI Joe (daughters new bf). We’re eating and talking away and I noticed the blimmin table kept moving. I’m sure I saw it. Then it moved again.. what the heck? I asked for goodness sakes whos moving the table !?
GI Joe says sorry it’s me, I don’t fit at normal size tables. Hes 6 ft 8. His legs were splayed lol! I hadn’t noticed because they’re all tall here and I don’t look up lol. Poor bugga, he fitted ok on a lowered pc chair…

It’s ok if it leaves a nice neat hole. It’s when it tears a big bit out of the loaf that it’s irritating.
