Adele does not sing.

She howls, much in the manner of an air-raid siren.

But i do like Disturbed’s version of SoS.

It brings a suitably dark, threatening, and portentous air which benefits the song.

I watched that one yesterday. There is a comparison between an autotuned version and a raw version. IIRC the studio version was raw and the concert version was autotuned.

I played it for Junior Sprog and she enjoyed it. She then came back with another cover – Elanor Rigby – and it is good.

That was a really good example of what autotune dose.

I was just listening to some early Dylan and he is so out of tune with what he is playing on the guitar that Autotune could make it a lot worse by trying to sort it out.

(Yeah… if you want it autotuned you can already lsten to Peter Paul and Mary’s versions. :) )

I’m not a Queen fan so they can autotune away as far as I’m concerned :)

the message seems to be…don’t buy re-releases. They are murdering all the music once deemed great.

So NOW they’ve butchered Simon & Garfunkel’s live performance of a classic! (timestamped)

Thanks, those were quite interesting, educational.

We’re inclined to agree with the general thrust of what is said, though some of the detail and explanations could be better.

But yeah, nice informative series.

And I keep on a thinking on it.

‘They’..are re releasing all the old stuff autotuned because they say this generation thinks things sounds shit if they aren’t autotuned. And I am not happy with that.

I’m also not sure about autotuning contestants on talent shows.

Well, we’re purist-elitists (¿purelitists?) that prefer “natural” samples* and also would consider that “cheating” in contests** so that seems fair enough.

*: we dislike image enhancing filters in general when capturing photographs, too

**: unless it’s specifically a contest of composition / lyric setting, say

Making voice less natural and less expressive, yes.

Could be used in moderation for artistic effect, agree.
