A Melbourne book store has hired professional security after a staff member working as a COVID-19 marshal was allegedly pushed down an escalator.

The employee at Dymocks, in Melbourne’s CBD, was briefly knocked unconscious in the incident after allegedly being pushed by a customer who refused to check in using a QR code and show his vaccine certificate.

Afterwards, the staff member was found to have suffered a mild concussion and cuts to his back from tumbling down the escalator.

Police are now investigating the alleged assault, which was caught on camera.

More violent COVIDiots. This is a very worrying trend.

“Portugal tightens COVID restrictions.

Portugal is entering a so-called state of calamity, the second this year, to curve an upward trend in coronavirus infections despite having one of the strongest vaccination records in Europe, with a double-dose vaccination rate of about 87 per cent.

The state of calamity is one step below the country’s top level of alert.

The country is tightening passenger control in airports, seaports and land borders, requiring negative coronavirus tests for most incoming visitors as part of the new set of rules that kick in Wednesday.

Face masks are again required in enclosed spaces and coronavirus vaccination or COVID-19 recovery tests are required to enter restaurants, cinemas, gyms and hotels.”

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
87% double-dose vaxxes. It’ll be interesting to see whether the death rate remains low, despite the climbing infection rate.

“Gold Coast back on COVID alert after infectious man attends Black Friday sales
A man who tested positive to COVID-19 on the Gold Coast yesterday is fully vaccinated and was infectious in the community for three days, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says.

She said he was “unlikely” to have the Omicron variant but investigations were continuing.

Queensland Health yesterday afternoon issued a public health alert for contact tracing locations on the Gold Coast after confirming the new positive COVID-19 case.

At the time it said investigations were underway to determine the source of infection, but confirmed the man had visited the Robina Town Centre during the Black Friday shopping sales.

Anyone who had visited the location or has symptoms “no matter how mild” was urged to get tested immediately.”

My suggestion a few days back was to use the phonetic alphabet.

You start with Alpha, and the first variant of that is Alpha Alpha, the next is Alpha Bravo, then Alpha Charlie etc.

If a whole new strain arrives, then it’s the Bravo strain. First variant is Bravo Alpha and so on.

Or else phonetics and numbers.

Alpha, with variants Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Alpha 3 etc.

New stain is Bravo, with variants Bravo 1, Bravo 2, Bravo 3 etc.

When planes got back from an air battle in WW2 they’d monitor where they had been hit by enemy fire. The white spaces where no hits are recorded, they eventually realised that those parts of the plane needed to be strengthened or augmented.

Cases linked to Melbourne protests grow to 29, almost all among unvaccinated.

The number of COVID-19 cases linked to recent protests in Melbourne has grown to 29, with almost all of them in people who are unvaccinated.

The cases involve 18 men and 11 women between the ages of 14 and 73, of whom only one was fully vaccinated, and three had received one dose of vaccine.

Two of those people have now been admitted to hospital.

‘Certainly, all up to date, here’s the certification.’

‘Thank you, sir, in you go.’

NSW Health said the child, along with his family, had not spent time in southern Africa and arrived on flight QR908 from Doha to Sydney on Thursday, November 23.

The new infection was identified after urgently retested swabs were taken from 500 returned travellers who have arrived in the state since November 22.

The parents, who are both fully vaccinated, have tested positive to COVID-19 and are currently undergoing genomic testing to confirm if they are also positive to the new variant.

The 12-month adjusted all-cause mortality risk was significantly higher for patients with severe COVID-19 compared to both COVID-19 negative patients (HR 2.50; 95% CI 2.02, 3.09) and mild COVID-19 patients (HR 1.87; 95% CI 1.28, 2.74). The vast majority of deaths (79.5%) were for causes other than respiratory or cardiovascular conditions. Among patients aged <65 years, the pattern was similar but the mortality risk for patients with severe COVID-19 was increased compared to both COVID-19 negative patients (HR 3.33; 95% CI 2.35, 4.73) and mild COVID-19 patients (HR 2.83; 95% CI 1.59, 5.04). Patients aged 65 and older with severe COVID-19 were also at increased 12-month mortality risk compared to COVID-19 negative patients (HR 2.17; 95% CI 1.66, 2.84) but not mild COVID-19 patients (HR 1.41; 95% CI 0.84, 2.34).

Must have been those preexisting conditions, seeing as most of the deaths would have occurred more than 30 days out of any coronavirus infection.

Elective surgery patients may require a negative COVID-19 test in the 72 hours before their procedures under options being discussed within Queensland Health to reduce the risk of hospital transmission.

It has been that way in NSW for a while.

I had to show a negative test result in order to gain admission to hospital for surgery.

I wonder whether barring unvaccinated people from all indoors (including supermarkets) would work. If I were vaccinated, I’d get pretty sick of helping my unvaxxed friends getting their groceries. Or I could start a delivery business.

I reckon it’s nearly time to just forget about the unvaccinated. I don’t know how the rates are going elsewhere, but here where I live we are >95% double dosed. So I’m inclined to think “and the devil take the hindmost” about them.

there’s no reminder in that, nothing at all that is likely to take a fully vaccinated person to the reality they don’t actually know for sure they are protected, or to what extent, and so many other things are obliviated, it perhaps qualifies as more a correct thought than thinking

consider for a moment a high number of vax slow people are actually saying no to endemic covid, rather than going along with vax-as-a-vote-to-endemic-covid, and the reality on the ground has been that delays to high vaccination rates have slowed the program of endemic covid, and it is a program, no question about that

it could be said the tolerance-turned-enthusiasm for endemic covid has killed and maimed not a few, if it’s not millions already i’d be surprised, it could be ten million or more, who knows

data representing the casualties of vax-as-a-vote-to-endemic-covid is likely to get swamped by data supporting the program, and it does

the contribution of vaccinators (i’ll call them), of which where there is also enthusiasm for endemic covid, is probably no less pretty regard mortality and morbidity than the contribution of anti-vaxers, whatever it is i’d assume that it’s not insubstantial

i’m for high vaccination levels + elimination (maintaining the objective of the latter, for the moment)

it may seem rational to point at unvaccinated people regard covid troubles, lend to an appealing belief, but i’d expect not a few of them are against endemic covid, against the program

and fairly clearly the vax slow people that are against endemic covid, are pro elimination, aren’t responsible for the program of endemic covid, or responsible for the casualties of vax-as-a-vote-to-endemic-covid

there is also a lot of people more aligned with vax-as-a-vote-to-eliminate

but as as things so often go with human views, the intention of a view gets its force from negation, an art the media brings to us everyday, that all are encouraged to emulate, which has a native appeal to many

Completely incomprehensible.

agree.

of course it is, you’d need consider negation, it’s not exactly a natural endeavor, given that’s what propositions held in minds tend to often do, they don’t don’t much study their own negation

this proposition vax-as-a-vote-to-endemic-covid

negates vax-as-a-vote-to-eliminate

well to be fair they’re right, we mean

95% of the eligible population have had 2 doses, so fuck the rest, the idiots who refuse and the ineligible, it’s their own fault for being too stupid or young or sick or inaccessible to get shot, the rest of us have convenience to make them pay for, fuck’em

we also mean

it’s not like it matters too much anyway hey, given the new variants are showing off their 60% reduction in vaccine effectiveness, everyone might as well be unshot anyway

Omicron COVID-19 variant is spreading in the community after a school student who hasn’t travelled overseas was confirmed as the state’s ninth case.

One student at Regents Park Christian School has tested positive and two are possible cases

The Health Minister said there was no evidence Omicron was more severe than other variants

oh sorry what was that we thought it was meant to be no evidence Omicron was even as severe as other variants, well what about that eh soon it’ll be no evidence Omicron is vaccine preventable welcome back to 2020 laugh out loud

When Austria became the first European country to make Covid vaccines compulsory, the “drastic” rule left many citizens stunned. But in the weeks since the bombshell announcement was made, more and more nations have introduced similar measures – or dropped major clues that the controversial rule was on the cards. And with Europe now in the grip of yet another crushing Covid wave amid stagnating vaccination rates, and the new Omicron variant wreaking fresh havoc globally, it seems likely the vaccine mandate trend will be here to stay.

https://www.news.com.au/technology/science/vaccine-mandates-spread-across-europe-and-beyond-as-covid-surge-wreaks-havoc/news-story/42d9f7218ef67f4a5b9aa7e1f57b7f77

we mean what better time to start making vaccines compulsory, than only after a variant appears that makes them 60% ineffective

ask us again if all those fucking arseholes out there aren’t deliberately trying to derail any possible infection control measure that might actually keep people healthy

We describe a man whose first manifestations of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease occurred in tandem with symptomatic onset of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Drawing from recent data on prion disease pathogenesis and immune responses to SARS-CoV-2, we hypothesize that the cascade of systemic inflammatory mediators in response to the virus accelerated the pathogenesis of our patient’s prion disease. This hypothesis introduces the potential relationship between immune responses to the novel coronavirus and the hastening of preclinical or manifest neurodegenerative disorders. The global prevalence of both COVID-19 and neurodegenerative disorders adds urgency to the study of this potential relationship.

Was just reading an ABC Fact Check that the ABC did on something Pauline Hanson said.

“Despite failing to win approval in parliament for her anti-vaccination mandate bill in recent weeks, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson is continuing to campaign against such measures, speaking at a so-called “freedom” rally last weekend in Broadwater, Queensland.

“In England, now it’s stated that more people are dying with COVID who are double-vaxxed than unvaxxed,” Senator Hanson told the assembled crowd. “It is a fact.”
The latest data published by the UK Health Security Agency shows that of 3,726 COVID-19 deaths over a three-week period to November 21, 2,903 were people fully vaccinated against the disease, compared to 708 unvaccinated people.
However, those figures do not mean that vaccinated people are at a higher risk of death from COVID-19.”

1. If the figures given by Fact Check are correct then so is Hanson and the ABC should never have stamped that quote as being MISLEADING.
2. They should have said True But There’s More To it.

Please explain the difference between “True but more to it” and “misleading”. Surely the fact that it’s true but there’s more to it is why they labelled it misleading rather than FALSE.

My immediate thought was…80% of the deaths were vaccinated, 20% were unvaccinated. I wonder what percentage of people are vaccinated in England now…so I read the link. And indeed the answer lies there along with prioritization of the vulnerable in the early stages of vaccination.

Gotta love statistics.

OTOH, the Internet tells me that the BBC tells us that 80% are fully vaccinated in the UK. If the numbers given and the 80% are all correct, it looks like the vaccine is totally ineffective at preventing deaths from Covid.

OTOOH, maybe the group who have most deaths have a much higher vaccination rate.

read some convincing more-to-it-explanations regard that, to do with age and risk, tends to swing the numbers to look like vaccination is killing people, which it isn’t, not directly anyway

what I didn’t see in any of the explanations, was that vaccination and the sense of immunity (and impunity) motivates the more gregarious covid host vehicles to swap breathable air

What’s being said but left unsaid here is this, and you’d do well to be aware of it.

If B.1.1.529 is smashing immunity with its spike mutations, but it doesn’t have the B.1.617.2 non-spike massive infectivity mutations, then all it’s going to take is a couple of coinfections in jokers who are out COVID-19-partying for a good catch, and viral recombination means you’re all even more fucked¡ And who doesn’t like a good being completely fucked¿

what if the virus evolves past immunity to previous strains

interesting article, has stuff like

https://www.ft.com/content/27def1b9-b9c8-47a5-8e06-72e432e0838f

The chief executive of Moderna has predicted that existing vaccines will be much less effective at tackling Omicron than earlier strains of coronavirus and warned it would take months before pharmaceutical companies could manufacture new variant-specific jabs at scale. Stéphane Bancel said the high number of Omicron mutations on the spike protein, which the virus uses to infect human cells, and the rapid spread of the variant in South Africa suggested that the current crop of vaccines may need to be modified next year. A Stanford University study of a Delta outbreak at a California prison published last month found that Moderna’s jab was 56.6 per cent effective against infection — substantially lower than the level in studies conducted before the emergence of the variant, the researchers said.

We Said,

But when you step back, both states have actually followed a fairly similar trajectory since their lockdowns eased. The key difference?

When Sydney left its lockdown behind on October 11, the state reported 496 new infections. When Melbourne exited its lockdown ten days later, Victoria reported 2,189 new cases. Since then, the seven-day average for new infections in both states has dropped, before stabilising into a plateau.

Anyway, laterszch.

NSW Health authorities are focusing their investigation on a Sydney indoor climbing gym as the number of Omicron cases grows. Students from Regents Park Christian School visited the gym in November 27 … The school has a cluster of 13 cases

Foreign interference agents and local fascists continue to trade with corrupt parliamentarians

Thousands of demonstrators have met in Melbourne CBD to protest against Victoria’s new pandemic legislation, which passed through Parliament during the week. The state recorded 1,365 new local COVID-19 cases and nine deaths a day earlier … A similar demonstration of about 1,000 people took place in Perth

QLD welcomes bioterrorism

Queensland has recorded seven new cases of COVID-19 overnight — two acquired overseas in hotel quarantine, two from interstate and three acquired locally. “We will absolutely get to a point in Australia that COVID is just another infectious disease that we’re managing, that everyone’s going off and getting their boosters like we get our flu shots and we are managing it in our community,” Ms D’Ath said. “We’re just at the start of opening up, we will have cases we will have many cases every day.

alarmist

Has he learnt nothing from the example of Dr. Li Wenliang?

He was another alarmist, who tried to send a message to fellow medics about the outbreak at the end of December 2019. Three days later police paid him a visit and told him to stop. He returned to work and caught the virus from a patient. He had been in hospital for at least three weeks.

He was eventually summoned to the Public Security Bureau where he was told to sign a letter. In the letter he was accused of “making false comments” that had “severely disturbed the social order”.

“We solemnly warn you: If you keep being stubborn, with such impertinence, and continue this illegal activity, you will be brought to justice – is that understood?” Underneath in Dr Li’s handwriting is written: “Yes, I do.”

Frickin’ doctors, upsetting the social order.
He was one of eight people who police said were being investigated for “spreading rumours”.

Palmer says her team found Omicron may have been created by what’s called a “recombination” – a supercharged love child of the early Alpha variant plus Delta, something that has not been found in SARS-CoV-2 until now.

“We’re very, very concerned,” Palmer says, relaying the discovery with a calm and measured voice that belies its seriousness. “It indicates that possibly we could see that variants can recombine and if somebody is infected with two variants there could be a recombination that could lead to a more pathogenic and infectious virus.”

If it does overtake Delta, Professor Rosendaal said there could be advantages if it produces milder symptoms. “It’s one of the theories how the Spanish flu disappeared, that there may have been a variant that was more contagious, but less ‘ill-making’,” Professor Rosendaal said.

However, even if that is the case with Omicron, it would take some time before the world sees the benefits. “Even if it’s more contagious and has a slightly lower mortality risk, or risk of making people severely ill … in the short term, there would be more people in the hospital, there would be more people dying,” Dr Rosendaal said. “It’s only at the end that a thing like that would be good.”

Professor Rosendaal says in the meantime, the international community needs to cooperate to reduce transmission and the risk of mutation that comes with it.

in fact i’ve near been convinced omicron is the cure for delta, and an end to the entire pandemic (humor intended)

this so-called “expert” called it 4 months ago hey

“Endemicity” is not a way out, it is a way IN.

it’s all so wonderful, helps destroy regional cultures, even modest differences become subject to global forces, everyone is to worship globalism

everyone shall work, and nobody shall work against endemic covid

Professor Rosendaal says in the meantime, the international community needs to cooperate to reduce transmission and the risk of mutation that comes with it.

why the hell would you want to reduce transmission of something you think would end better

I have highlighted the answer for you.

right but don’t these viruses naturally become more mild the more they spread and mutate over time, this is an Excellent Thing and it should be encouraged

“In general”, yes. But there is also the second reason they mentioned.

oh no no no no no but you see they don’t understand

the very way the natural phenomenon of milding happens is by natural selection of the hosts, you actually want more people in the hospital, so more people can get out of hospital by dying, that’s the goal

Queenslanders can go to the border zone for a day visit — Brisbane to Byron for instance. You’ll need a border pass, but you won’t need a test, provided you don’t go any further than the border zone.

Here’s what Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said:

“As long as you’re fully vaccinated, and you’ve got the border pass, you’ll be able to come back in to Queensland and not need a PCR test, but only if you’re travelling within the border zone.”
———————————————————————

Bugger me, I’ve been going to the border zone for months doing exactly that so what she should have said is that there is no change to the border zone rules.
And I’ve had a gut full of being interrogated by border police every time I rock up to the border check point

Does that mean I can go into the border zone for Christmas without getting tested at a NSW Health-run facility within 72 hours before I cross the border?

Or do I still need to have a valid reason for the border pass?

I thought I posted this earlier, but can’t find it so maybe I didn’t.

“Since May 2021, people living in counties that voted heavily for Donald Trump during the last presidential election have been nearly three times as likely to die from COVID-19 as those who live in areas that went for now-President Biden. That’s according to a new analysis by NPR that examines how political polarization and misinformation are driving a significant share of the deaths in the pandemic.”

Ignoring the possibility that your political leanings have a greater influence on your chances of dying from covid than your comorbidities do, the data suggests that every 10% change in vaccination rates equates to 30 deaths per 100,000 head of population.

I’m not sure if the new rules cover that, as it stands you and your wife need valid reasons to enter NSW and come back. I think from the press release you might be ok with the new rules for just a visit rather than doing essential work but I’ll have a look at that later on when the new rules come up on the web site, I’ll do a dummy application. I’m hoping to get family up to the redoubt over the festive season but as it stands they would not be essential workers. I’m sweet and have been for months because it’s essential I keep an eye on my property, well it’s not really but they cant knock me back but some coppers, not many, have wanted to see proof of my ownership and address of the property etc.
I’ll let you know.

Yep the ABC is saying this.
“Queensland residents – from anywhere in the state – will be able to travel into the NSW side of the border zone freely, but if they venture further south they will need to comply with the hotspot rules.
For example, a fully vaccinated Toowoomba couple can take a day trip to Byron Bay and return, but if they spent the weekend in Coffs Harbour, they will need negative test results before being permitted back over the border.”

But I’m guessing you will need a pass which will be checked at the border and questions asked.
That should all be explained when you apply for the pass.

Yeah, I just read that. So a day trip is to be OK. I wonder whether a five-day trip will be OK.

I have to drop of one of my cars in Taree. The plan was to drive down early in the morning, meet the bloke before midday, then drive back to Coffs Harbour to stay overnight at a friend’s place. Then home the next day.
Looks like we might have to get a quick COVID test on the way home then, and also need a border pass.

During the Victorian lockdown times, when we went to get firewood, we carried a copy of the rate notice for the block in the car. We were never questioned, but we had it just in case. We weren’t going over borders, but for quite long periods of time we weren’t allowed to travel further than a certain distance from home except for essential purposes (firewood for us).

guess there’s always that sweet spot like a virus that’s too lethal will actually inspire a proper public health response but if it isn’t lethal at all then there’s no need for one; a public health response that’s too shit will make people take their own protection seriously but if it’s really good then people don’t need to make up their own

there was a time bumping into the latter was sort of unavoidable even if you didn’t know what it was, there it was in the visual noise between used channels on your TV for example, or as your TV signal faded, evident in the visual snow and corresponding audible noise

but not so much anymore, good part of reality persists more secretly than ever, in the noise few want to know about, although are happy to contribute to

High school reunions have always been fraught with the possibility of awkwardness. When you hold one in a pandemic, the gathering of old friends, lovers and rivals becomes infinitely trickier.

The class of 1971 from Waynesboro High School in the US state of Virginia was determined to get together, despite the threat of COVID-19. Organisers did everything they could to prevent the spread of infection. Everyone who attended needed to be fully vaccinated, with no exceptions.

oh so they held it {outdoors slash with air purifiers} plus {everyone wore N95 or better rated masks the whole time} right

Hey MV the border zone X pass has not changed.
That’s possibly because the new rules are still a few days away and when it gets closer they may update the pass application for non essential visitors. I just did a dummy run.

Oh surprise ¡

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-12-07/act-schools-affected-after-omicron-cases-detected/100678636

Mr Stephen-Smith said it was becoming clear the Omicron variant was highly infectious and therefore required strict measures to control its spread. “It’s very early days, only very few cases, but we do seem to be seeing evidence that Omicron is actually very highly transmissible and places that were identified as casual contact sites have led to exposure — I think that was the first time that we’ve seen that in the ACT,” she said.

Ms Stephen-Smith acknowledged the order to quarantine for two weeks would come as a blow to many, particularly in the lead-up to Christmas. “At this period of time when we have so much uncertainty about the variant, we’re making sure that we’re continuing to protect the community,” she said. “I know that that is really tough and for all those people who have had to go into quarantine, thank you so much for doing that. It’s really hard particularly at this time of year when there’s so many end-of-year events and shopping to do.”

hm yeah anyway gee we wonder if there might have been any way to make these terrible quarantine things more fair, like oh we don’t know, keeping the problem at the border, maybe there is a way to make the people who choose to travel do the quarantine, who knows it might allow people who have stayed or already quarantined to keep their freedoms what a thought

we don’t know what the deal is with the pronouns but that’s not our concern

Mid-1950s for the Salk vaccine.

People in the US were so overjoyed at the arrival of a vaccine which would prevent polio from crippling their kids, or putting them into iron lungs, or killing them that there was serious proposals to make Jonas Salk’s birthday a national holiday.

Anyone who squawked the current sort of anti-vax nonsense would likely have been lynched on the spot.

really liked that article, more art from the ABC

the word future as used might serve to accept endemic delta, perhaps even omicron, but they have money both ways, it may serve to accept endemic covid of any sort

touched on compromised immunity from other infections, and disease, crossed my mind for a moment other disease and infection could be previous covid infection, or even a vaccination that might accidentally cause a wobbly immune response to a new variant

and I kept on having inappropriate thoughts, studying the negation, studying the ‘innocent’ distractions from what might be safely assumed, it even crossed my mind the wine sippers might be avoiding the realities of how bad alcohol was to immune function

they (the pro-endemic people) need background covid, of all sorts, require it, a sort of covid noise, to bury the accidents among, the dispersion events they characterize as ‘outbreaks’, and background covid renders the dispersion events more unremarkable, a non-event, that really are essential to covid equilibrium

if you put the proposition to them so directly they’d probably counter with some word, or words arranged, that means inevitability, pass it off as looking like a thought, they may encourage and hope you to adopt the same view, but you might ask how much balanced thought does the concept of inevitability ever really incline, is it ever used in a way that is meant to encourage thought, consideration, or is more often intended to stop thought

possibly related to the use of the concept of inevitability, is the view of humans as being fundamentally irrational, the latter adopted of course results in people thinking others are more irrational than themselves, so, adopted, a person goes looking for that in others, and your qualifications for looking for it elsewhere are secretly assumed, but go largely unabstracted of where it it might matter, or could otherwise matter

read some news anyway, get some comfort from there being some superior rationality out there, keep looking, keep comparing, internalize whatever you find that seems to improve your rationality, all the superior people are doing it

Looks to me like it’s increasing to Jan 2020, then flattens off, if not decreasing.

So … you agree precisely with what I’ve said.

eh?
“Until 2021” means the same as until the end of 2019 now?

Bloody hell. Junior sprog was at schoolies last week so moved into another house to avoid us in quarantine. She’s just got a text from Vic dept of Health stating that she was at a site where there was a covid case on the 28/11 and she needs to get tested and quarantine until she gets a negative.

Oh, is she fucking happy or what?

Omicron is the end of the road for China’s zero-COVID policy. The Communist Party cannot plausibly suppress a variant that spreads with lightning speed through asymptomatic cases that escape surveillance.

Any such attempt would probably fail. Even if total suppression could be achieved, the social, economic, and strategic costs of trying to do the near impossible would become prohibitive over time. It would no longer be rational.

pity Japan didn’t colonise them 75 years ago or they’d be fully democratic and their ZeroCOVID strategy would be a resounding success

The main things people can do to protect themselves — regardless of variants — are to get vaccinated, and wear masks indoors and in public places, according to Dr Gounder.

In countries where the option is available, she also recommends bolstering immunity with booster shots, particularly for the elderly and immunocompromised.

nah sorry only pharmaceutical intervention money goes to Big Pharma so you can forget the masks, that money goes to CHINA so we don’t want to do any of that

Australian officials will not attend the Beijing Winter Olympics, in a formal boycott of the Games over China’s human rights abuses against Uyghur minorities in the country.

The US this week confirmed it would not send any diplomats or officials to the Games, while still allowing its athletes to compete.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Australian athletes would compete at the Games despite the diplomatic boycott.

He said it should come as “no surprise” that Australia would boycott the event, citing the breakdown in the relationship with China in recent years.

“I’m doing it because it’s in Australia’s national interest,” he said. “It’s the right thing to do.”

China has vowed to respond with “firm countermeasures” to the boycott.

More to come.

interesting posturing, next thing you know you find out that this is actually respectful adherence to CHINA policy, quarantine policy, infection control policy

Laugh Out Loud

chuckle been noticing that, but careful what you say they’ll turn on japan

you know zero covid, covidicide, germicide, it’s a slippery slope to racism, nationalism and genocide

but of the subject you quote, there are also articles making more neutral noises re china’ zero covid approach

just lot of freer countries aren’t done with killing and maiming their own yet

In terms of current death rates, the worst affected areas are still Eastern Europe/Former Soviet Union as well as some places in the Caribbean.

Does seem to be good news in Australia. The number of deaths has not shot up despite the easing of restrictions in Victoria and NSW. Still puttering along at around 50 a week.
