well, they used to say the ‘flu’ until they realised that a little bit of lockdown and physical distancing and air scrubbing and masking and vaccinating actually did kill off the ‘flu’, which means

dint kill it off
it just kept it from spreading

iow; masks etc are doing their job

that the fewer the individuals catching it the less opportunity
