Our mate Angus Taylor says you can’t trust Labor because they made a commitment in 2019 to reduce GHG emissions by 45% by 2030, and they have now decided that commitment was wrong, and have changed it to 43%.

It seems to me they have just made a minor adjustment, allowing for 3 years of inaction since 2019.

But is Taylor right to say they have admitted they were wrong in 2019?

If so, where can I read this confession?

Also my local mate Julian Leeser has sent me a nice letter saying current emissions are down on 2005 by more than 20%?

Can that be justified with any reliable numbers?

No Taylor will say anything regardless of the truth.

Actually that appears to be ballpark correct, if we include Australia’s land-use concession.

OK, I’ll check my numbers; made it just under 20%.

The vast majority of which was under Labor and Turnbull, but still.

I mean also there’s been a big drop in emissions in the most recent figures because of the shut down.

What about all the methane we aren’t declaring?

I mean the land use thing is ridiculous anyway. Countries that have made huge real strides towards decarbonising their economies have to watch Australia pat itself on the back for not doing quite as much land clearing as we used to do.

They are lying about the land clearing. I don’t think anyone has been checking the satellite images or they are covering up the data.
