The local dryland farmers want to harvest their sorghum, but things like fog and cloud cover and moisture-bearing winds are slowing them down…some of them are drying their sorghum (lowering the moisture content) on-farm, just to get it onto the market…
Currently 4.3C at the airport…what’s .3C between friends…we’re going to an open air BBQ at the neighbours tonight,,,bring your own swag…I think we’ll have dinner before we go…it’s an 80’s theme and Sonny Joe has been scouring the Op Shops but I think I’ll just rug up…might need to buy one of those lumberjack beanies from the petrol station…

Oh yes. Fingers are frizzen this morning. Too cold to get dressed and head outside so here I am. Sun is up and the sky is cloudless so there is hope.

Thanks Pomolo…we haven’t attended a party (outside the family) for years…like about 15 years…this is a neighbour, Sonny Joe was courting one of the girls, and altho’ she froze him out after 6 weeks, her family likes him…plus their place of work is down behind our office…she is 15 and he is 16….it was a lot of fun while it lasted…we ran their horses in our front paddock during the wet, to keep the grass down…I’m amazed MrD has shown any interest but it will do him good…I keep telling him to get a social life, take up golf, anything but he is “too busy, too tired” and would rather ride his bike or go to the gym…I think his hearing loss has a big bearing on this…
It’s now 3.9C…I thought it was getting colder…the boys will be pleased to run on later today (JRL) just to warm up! lol
I have the heater on here this morning. So cold and the elf is now on antibiotics with the threat of am ambulance hanging over his head if he gets much worse over the weekend.
Me I’m finally improving…… Just barking and chasing cars…constantly. The head area has cleared up and I am almost back to my befuddled self;)

he throws petrol over it and it lights up the valley – its about 8×4×3m high and it dwarfs the silhouetted humans gathered to watch the spectacle. only takes 15 minutes to burn down.

this is so good…I can see it in my mind’s eye…
btw my bro used to light Mum’s slow combustion with petrol and he cracked the “stone” therein…
We’re supposed to have had a minimum of 2C last night…it’s 4.5 out at the airport (where the weather station is, very similar to our situation on the other side of town) at the moment…the weather station seems to be electronically linked to the information provided by ABC Online????

I always go with diesel, the vapours are less likely to combust like petrol.

We have had exactly 2 inches. It’s still grey outside but I think it’s starting to clear up. Beautiful rain that wasn’t so heavy that it washed straight down the hill. Some would have soaked into the soil.

Good soaking stuff here, too, the driveway turned into slop…Sonny Jim said 2 inches at the airport (where the weather station is)…reckon we received that much as well…
We have had a few mils of rain and barely a breeze. But, apparently we are yet to get the big gales and storms, will likely be overnight.
My pondy tub is near full again anyway :)

I think its a design thing. GF and I were staring at all the blossom the other day, saying now the wind will come to blow most of it off. I think Mangos know about the wind happening just before the wet season, so by design they load up with blossom, hopefully the wind will come and disperse the pollen and the rest of the wind will cull the crop so that only the best survive.

It is fantastic for August! Considering we had 95mms earlier in the month, this makes this August quite damp. August ave rainfall for Towntown is 15.8mm so this is a wet dry month.
Our annual ave is 1137mm, so far this year I have caught 1391mm so exactly 10inches over the norm! In the last 30 years our average is only 1060mm.

because we are on that spit that means we face North, the SEerlys that bring the moisture get funnelled around by Mt Elliott and Hervey’s Range, so that whatever rain doesn’t fall on Alligator Creek and Cungulla way, it gets shoved Northward and falls on Rollingstone. Mingela is too far away and not tall enough, even Charlies Trousers misses out.
We need a Bellenden Ker size rock to slow the moist airflow down…

hope he’s wearing his leathers… at 9am Maleny was 11.8 but felt like 8.7.
I spent my morning after scraping the ice off my windscreen, trimming grading counting and tying thousands of fruit trees into bundles and then burying them again. Brought three home as they were too big so I’ll probably spend the rest of the day digging holes big enough to put them in.

Well, not the whole gamut because some fruit trees are evegreen and others wouldn’t be doing so well in the frost.
apples pears plums apricot prune nashi peaches nectarines almonds hazelnuts chestnuts pomegranute fig walnut pecan persimmon type fruit trees.
Drive past and pick one up off the heap of throw aways. When it gets bigger than a couple of trucks, we burn it. Which often happens at least twice each winter. If you buy one of the aboove from bunnings woolworths or a garden centre etc, then it probably still has my fingerprints on it.We also do citrus but they are dug in spring after the frosts finish

Back to the weather. It’s warmer here. Thank goodness. I’ve actually walked down the back and picked some mandies, oranges, lemonades and navels. It’s squishy underfoot but the sun is trying to help the situation. It’s very weak but the day isn’t over yet.

Ah, well there were three monster Fantasia nectarines that were huge. they could have been sold with the market stuff or indeed we could start a line of huge trees but they would be prohibitive in cost due to the transport nightmare.
I thought OK I can plant these and multigraft them thus allowing me to reorganise my fruit orchard without losing too much fruiting time.
