Nup. Just a lot of light rain, that it probably soaked up too quick and also weighed it down.

Looks like they sold you a lemon.

It’s had a hard life. Probably at least 25 years old, and nearly died twice. Once from a bark fungus, where I had to cut it back quite heavily, and again, during the drought.

Always had a HYOOOOJ crop of the most gigornemous lemons on it each year.

I had to put a sling round a mango tree branch. For some reason it put out an oversized horizontal branch which threatened to break off.

It’s a pretty clean split. Nearly (but not quite) down the middle.

Gunna follow Mr FSM’s link and try and fix it. I hadn’t thought of putting a bolt through it. I’ve got a couple of those pulldown/time down ratchet straps that I’ll use to pull it back together.

Bunnings have this Sealing Paint

Only noticed it yesterday, so hope it’s not too late. Might strip most of the fruit off it too.

Yes. Remove all the fruit off the broken branch.
Bolting it together is good but use plates rathter than ewashers so that the bolts don’t get pulled into the tree. With care the bolts may later be removed or indeed allowed to becoome part of the trunk but I’d prefer to get a healthy union and then remove the bolts.
You do need to clamp it though at first. Tthe important issue is to remove almost all the greenery on the broken branch, leaving only enough to provide support for growth and line up the cambium tissues as best you can before clamping. Use water based white paint to protect the bark from sunburn.

At that age it was probably getting a bit…

Not so much the age but the concept of being able to maintain a rideon lawnmower within such close proximity. Some people know nothing more about ttees other than that they want to stick them in a lawn.

Look away now if the sight of open tree surgery sets you off.

Pruned off about half of the bit that split off, and removed most of the fruit and painted it with tree wound paint.

Didn’t touch the bit that stayed upright.

Oh……… and the macadamias are coming along nicely this year.

That’s a lot of G & T’s there, Mr V. Specially the G bit.

And that’s just half of them. I left all the fruit on the upright half bit.

Yair you should have thinned out the fruit earlier. The other branch may still break.

Yes, they will ripen better if you left a bit of stem on, they’ll last longer too.

How should I store them, Mr Barked?

You know, to stop them rotting.

Inject them with the gin. That will make them juicy and stop them from rotting.

My poor old lemon tree. It grew too many lemons. πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹

Ya reckon a band-aid β€˜ll fix it? Tie it up, maybe?

What ya reckon, Ms Buffy? Or just put the maaaar over it?

Many years ago , I found a tree in the frontyard split in a similar way. I used elasticised bandage to put the tree trunk back together and moistened the bandage for weeks, and then let it do its thing, eventually the tree recovered, the cotton fibres of the bandage degraded over time until i removed the bandage, the tree lived
