There’s the strong likelihood of rain on day one and day two of the fifth Ashes Test between Australia and England in Hobart.
Day one (Friday):
A 60-70% chance of somewhere between 1 mm and 4 mm, more likely in the afternoon and evening, which is not ideal for the day/night hours of play from 3 pm to 10 pm AEDT.
A maximum of 22°C.
—
Day two (Saturday):
A 60-70% chance of somewhere between 1 mm and 4 mm, though with luck the heaviest showers rain will fall before the 3 pm start of play.
A maximum of 24°C.
—
Day three (Sunday):
Still the chance of a light shower after winds have swung around to the south and southeast, but nothing that should disrupt play for more than a brief interlude.
A maximum of 22°C.
—
Day four (Monday):
Again, just a slight chance of a shower, most likely in the morning.
A maximum of 22°C.
—
Day five (Tuesday):
Should England build on the resolve they showed in Sydney and make it this far into the match, they’ll encounter cool conditions on the final day of the series that will make them feel right at home. There’s only the slight chance of a shower, but winds will turn southerly and have a bit of a bite.

That too. I am still not sold on Day/Night tests. I think the disadvantage of batting in the last session is too much. Sometimes it is a matter of chance which team happens to be batting at the time, sometimes it is a matter of deliberate strategy to declare.

One of the shots from behind, just as he landed showed a little bit of white line. It was a no-ball in my opinion.
In any case Paul Reiffel called it, and I’m quite confident he wouldn’t do that unless he had conclusive evidence to overturn the “out” call.
21.5.1 the bowler’s back foot must land within and not touching the return crease appertaining to his/her stated mode of delivery.

Their bowlers were not up to the same standard as the Aussies in Australian conditions. But I still think their batting was even worse by comparison with the Aussie batters. Their bowlers at least managed to win a few sessions here and there. I don’t think the English batters can claim to have won even one, maybe a couple of break-even at best.

England’s batting average for the series is 20.21.
A great finish to the match. But far too biased in favour of the bowlers with that pitch.. all over in less than 3 days.
Let’s hope we never see an Ashes test played in Hobart again.
I think Anderson, Wood, Broad and Robinson can all consider themselves to have earned their lunch money on this tour. Not sure who among the English batsmen can say the same. Certainly not Root.

We beat theem by bowling them out. The thing we didn’t do in the fourth test. Beat them by 147 runs or something like that.

England needs to be ‘grabbed by the scruff of the neck’ after Ashes capitulation, say former players
Nice effort, Cummins. Simple but lovely and very, very thoughtful.

Research shows that a white and privately educated man is 34 times more likely to play professional cricket than a British Asian and state-educated man. Is this why they lost the Ashes?
Posh, privileged and privately educated: England grapples with the source of its poor Ashes performance
It has taken awhile, and another lost series this time to the West Indies, but Joe Root has finally done the decent thing and resigned the captaincy of the England & Wales cricket side. Looks like the Kiwi, Ben Stokes will take up the poisoned chalice. He will join the Irishman, Eoin Morgan, who captains the England & Wales one day and T20 sides.
