Just working out what Veggies I want to get in for Spring and Summer. Thinking Spuds, Tomatoes, Pumpkins and Caps straight after the Last Frost, We haven’t Had Many this Winter so far. Corn not sure when I’ll put that in the Garden and sunflowers. couple of Cucumbers as well, May be some Watermelon in there as well.
Would it be getting to hot for Carrots, Celery, Lettuce?

when are your last frosts?

carrots, celery and lettuce will all take frosts so they can be planted first in spring.
spuds can be planted in august because it takes a month for them to come thru to the surface – which protects them from frost that come in september.
the others all need lots of heat – so plant october or later.
add basil, spinach, spring onions, beetroot.

The TV news said something about todays big fog being caused by the unusually high temps. I wasn’t paying attention so no details.

Got some Poultry Manure Mixed in with wood shavings, hope that will be alright. I’ve just put the A-farm chook pen over one of the garden beds where I’m Thinking about Planting corn, So I might turn that into the Tomato bed.

For the spuds how would the Poultry and wood Shavings Mixed in with a bit of goat poo? Might even Pick up a Couple more Bags of Cow, and Poultry Manure from the local area.

Still got this Draining Problem then.
————————-
there’s no drainage problem in the raised beds. that’s a furphy i introduced thinking of the wet ground around here.

your raised beds just need to be weeded and topdressed. they should have reasonably good soil from before.

Must be dropping fast, is now 23C and that’s the temperature inversion breeze (usually the 8:30 breeze) that’s springing up now…the weather station is at the aerodrome, which has the same weather environment as us (as opposed to the town proper)…

We’ve got 3 whirly birds on the roof, no airconditioning as this is an open plan house, the siting is north-east aspect so the sun doesn’t bother us of a morning in the summer…I have a duranta hedge to keep the summer sun out of the family room and it acts as a wind break as well…if one of us was a shift worker we would need airconditioning tho’, for daytime sleep comfort…

probably used up the nutrient in the pot, so worth giving the SeaMungus a go, or repot it into some fresh mix. Maybe check if the ph is right too.

Can’t find the Today’s Temp thread, this will have to do…

In what might be a first for a September up here, today the minimum was 15C and the Max will be 16C…

Not likely to improve over the next few days, either, with the most difference forecast as 8 degrees on Tuesday…

Freezing at the racetrack yesterday, which was a pity…it’s the prettiest track on the circuit, mountain backdrops and windswept plains…even the ice cream van packed up and went home at 14:00…Fashionista swallowed her pride and wore my bedsocks that I keep under the front seat (along with the emergency rolls of toilet paper) of the Patrol…the crowd was down because unless you drank lots of grog or lots of coffee/tea, it was hard to warm up…one of the other bookies dragged out his car rugs and (we should have taken a photo) fastened his at his throat with a big bulldog clip…

I do, I live in the Central Highlands area…this little town has one of the most picturesque surrounds, I just realised yesterday it’s built mostly on the foothills of the range around it…the locals are rather enjoying the cooler weather but it has them all shaking their heads…I sat in an airconditioned office yesterday, waiting for something, and the airconditioner had the heater on…which was good because after half an hour the feeling came back in to my toes…I was wearing winter clothes and summer sandals…when it’s a Cup the bookies dress up a little bit (nice shoes and ironed shirts…just kidding )

You didn’t go up to Ingham a few weeks ago for the Ingham Races?

Fair enough… thought Townsville would be a goer for you though? Where was yesterday’s meet, I’m too lazy to check the TAB?

The big TownTown meets are a goer for some of the Rockhampton-based bookmakers, which are above our touch. One of the “biggest” bookmakers in Australia operates out of Rockhampton and that’s not us. You won’t find yesterday’s meet on the TAB: altho’ operated and approved by Queensland Racing it was one of those small country meetings by the locals, for the locals…

That’s within the range and I do believe it was considered this year, but it clashed with another club that MrD’s father supports with his bookmaking services so it was no go…
