Yup, officially fascinated…no holds barred…would have loved to have been successful with adenium obesium but it didn’t happen…

So bromeliads it is…ever since I read that their flowering can last for months…all you have to do is fill their crowns, pot up the pups, and apart from frosts, they love it where I am…under a tree in the dappled shade during summer, leaf mulch falling naturally from the tree into the brom…some will survive even without water in the cups for a while…

I guess the “neo” on the tag stands for “Neoregelia”

Taking this over to the Brom thread

I believe that particular one (even tho’ I got mine on special), whilst not rare, is unusual…I wouldn’t mind a second specimen just in case my first one carks it without producing a pup…

Whoah, I am fast filling up the LHS…sun is rising..well there is a pink glow on te horizon to the east…winter is having a final fling thus year…hot water bottle nights…

I repotted some of the broms last night…some of the parents were too far gone…I think the one with the flower that’s 4 months old (so far) will recover and hopefully produce a “pup”…it doesn’t bother me that they hardly ever flower as I love the shape of them and the fact that they hold water…

did you cut the flower off?

(shocked voice) Absolutely not!!

So a brom that you replanted which was well established enough to flower is now trying to what? Establish itself in new soil aka send out new roots or Keep on pouring energy into that flower?

I’d have the flower off in a snip. But then, I’d want the plant to be around to produce pups.

No, the plant flowered in the pot I bought it in…well I don’t really care if the flower does knock the plant around…my first brom had little dinky purple flowers in a 2 -3 inch diametre well..flowered for nearly a year…has had 3 “pups” which I have just broken off and planted out…this plant is about 5 years old and I am retiring it to the compost heap…not sure how the pups will go but can chalk it up to experience…

I have this, they are almost unkillable if they don’t get the summer’s afternoon sun… they will grow with no pot!

The flowers are unusual…they look like a long pink sleeve with jewels hanging off…will see if I can get a good photo…

It’ll live.

Hopefully it’s not too dehydrated…the new Weekly Boarder Pup knocked it over and I didn’t notice for 2 weeks…the leaves looked a bit shrivelled but this AM it appeared slightly plumper…

Pain Master I have pups ready to either send off or pot up…tried emailing you via the Post Lady but no reply. I’m fairly certain you expressed interest in acquiring some (free) broms…if you are still interested please respond to the email with your address and I’ll mail them to you…I’m not sure what variety some are anymore as labels have gone missing…do know for sure the “cup” type ones that have little purple star flowers in the “cup”.

If anybody else is interested please email either me (if you have my email address) or Lucky. The pups are 4 – 6 inches long. Make nice homes (kind of) for frogs (:

Why Hello Dinetta, it is good to see you here again! Hope it is not too wet down your way, I saw the Capricorn Hwy was closed last weekend, and wondered how you were…

Hello back at you…it’s very wet…Sonny Joe reports armfuls of mosquitoes when mowing the northeast quadrant of the house yard…after a few days the mosquitoes around the house should become fewer in number…no veg (only an artichoke and 3 lettuce) left on Saturday afternoon at either supermarket…panic by not-locals…completely cut off except for the west for about 5 days…driving home today it was easy to see the flood levels by the grass left on the barb wire fences…I think the WW and Coles trucks were the first ones let through on Tuesday…my water-repellent round garden bed in the front is no longer water repellent…my sons think the ground is so wet the bed has soaked from the bottom up…good news anyway…all I need now is the seedlings…won’t be planting close together so as to allow good air circulation…
