In a balanced three phase system there should be no current detected on the neutral, but as we all know, any distortion on the line currents will result in the triplen harmonics actually adding on the neutral as they are zero sequence harmonics. So in the worst case, even with a balanced system, the current in the neutral can be as high as √3 the line currents. A trap for young players.

It used to be and neutrals were often oversized to overcome it. Now days, with modern power supplies and stricter standards, everybody can reliably ignore it.
