I have noticed at work a definite correlation between those opposed to the Covid-19 vaccines and a leaning towards Russia in the current conflict. And it appears as if it is not just me who has noticed.

https://www.thestar.com/politics/political-opinion/2022/03/19/dont-like-russia-sanctions-you-probably-dont-like-covid-19-vaccines-either.html

Graves tested people’s views on the Ukraine crisis last week and then sorted their replies according to their vaccination status. What he found was that the more opposed people were to getting vaccinated, the more sympathetic their views were toward Russia, a notorious purveyor of disinformation itself.

Respondents with three or more doses of COVID vaccine, for instance, were overwhelmingly in favour of sanctions against Russia and massively in agreement that Russia was currently committing war crimes against Ukrainians. On the question of sanctions and war crimes, the percentage of triple-vaccinated people taking a tough stand on Russia was in the realm of 80 to 90 per cent.

Among those who have been refusing COVID vaccines, on the other hand, the opposite was true. Only 13 per cent favoured economic sanctions against Russia and only 18 per cent supported sending more military aid to Ukraine. Just 32 per cent agreed that Russia was committing war crimes, compared to 88 per cent for the triple-vaxxed and 70 per cent for those who have received two doses.

(The poll, conducted among an online panel of 1,035 adult Canadians between March 9 and March 13, is considered accurate within three percentage points, 19 times out of 20. It will be published online at the EKOS website this weekend.)

Basically it is about being undemocratic. Hating democracy and wanting an authoritarian system, with themselves being the ones in positions of authority of course. In this world view authority and the opportunities for corruption and exploitation go hand-in-hand. Whether it be money, material things, prestige, sexual favours of whatever, they see corruption as an entitlement of authority. They want to replace democracy with a system where they can graft and bribe and manipulate. They are naturally attracted to the Russian and Chinese systems.

They’re the people who don’t believe everything that politicians tell them.

Yes, they’re rare.

And they are as common as muck.

“Sceptic” is certainly the wrong word for someone who laps up Russian news reports and rejects Western news as “propaganda”.

“Idiot” seems roughly accurate.

>As of 2021, Russia ranked 150 out of 180 countries in the Press Freedom Index compiled by Reporters Without Borders. In the 2017 Freedom House Freedom of the Press report Russia scored 83 (100 being the worst), mostly because of new laws introduced in 2014 that further extended the state control over mass media. Freedom House characterized the situation as even worse in Crimea where, after the 2014 annexation by Russia, both Russian jurisdiction and extrajudicial means are (according to Freedom House) routinely applied to limit freedom of expression.

Question Western politicians fair enough, but certainly don’t trust foreign governments born from revolutions that killed millions and are far worse than what they replaced.
If they didn’t and don’t care about their own people they certainly won’t care too much about others.
The West gets a bad rap (which is mostly justified) and that everyone else is just a victim when many of them are guilty of everything the West is accused of and worse.
Racism is used as the reason we don’t trust them (for some people it is) but its actually how they act and their race is irrelevant.

I know that you’re interested in mollwollfumble’s opinion. Otherwise you wouldn’t have started this thread.

First of all, there is no correlation between anti-vaccine and pro-Russia amongst anyone I know.

I have a fundamental dislike of nuclear annihilation, so obviously I am anti-Pentagon.
(I have never forgiven the Pentagon for its role in the Cuban Missile Crisis, and I never will. Ask me why).
I am not pro-Russia. Russia is a nation characterised by drunkenness, broken machinery, graft and corruption. That’s not a pro-Russia opinion.

As for vaccine, I am rabidly pro-vaccine. I think people who delayed the release of vaccines for six months after their development was completed should be hung, drawn and quartered. Vaccines available worldwide by June 2020. Covid completely stopped worldwide by September 2020. However, I have since found out that the vaccines that have been released are ratshit, literally the second-least effective vaccines ever released in the whole of history. Every released flu vaccine has been a killed-virus vaccine. Not even a single released covid vaccine is a killed virus vaccine. Polio and smallpox vaccines are weakened strain live vaccines. Not even a single released Covid vaccine is a weakened live strain vaccine either. I could swallow a virus and spit a more effective vaccine than these.

I’ve been racking my brain, trying to think of a word that means “not-skeptic”.
ie. what word means believing what politicians tell them to believe?

At first I thought “sheep”, but that isn’t quite right. And it’s unfair to sheep.

Then I thought “yes-man”, but that isn’t right either. Yes-man can imply ulterior motive, which is not appropriate here.

So I’ve come to the opinion that the only good word meaning not-skeptic is “moron”.

So you can be “an idiot”, using rational thought to come to wrong conclusions. Or you can be “a moron”, not thinking at all. Your choice.

Fair enough. As was suggested earlier, you personally are clearly the opposite of a sceptic, and a complete and incurable moron.

Also: no, I’m not at all interested in your opinions.

The word that is the opposite of “skeptic”, as it is commonly used in political discourse is:

roll of drums

skeptic.
