Geophysical imaging of the Yellowstone hydrothermal plumbing system

A team of geophysicists recently strung a large wire loop from a helicopter and flew over Yellowstone National Park in order to see its hidden underground networks. They managed to collect a trove of data that highlighted electrical and magnetic properties of the water and earth under the park, as well as how the hot springs are more interconnected than previously thought.

Interestingly, I saw quite similar fluid pathway examples preserved in the Permian-aged Agate Creek Volcanics in north Queensland when I was doing detailed mapping and sampling there. Very high levels of the meteoric water plumbing system are currently exposed.

Also, Permian-age river channels are also preserved away from the main volcanic complex. Currently active river channels mimic the Permian rivers and are only a few metres lower.

Can’t get it on SciHub either. Says they haven’t got it yet.

And I should have refreshed view by time, shouldn’t I. Thanks fsm.

I wanted to see the figures in larger scale. They’re very complicated. I can’t claim to understand what I see here.
