Sorry, can’t help.

However, I do have an amplifier question.

I want an amplifier that can take input from Shure 57 microphone for recording a musical instrument, and has an output to computer, for highest fidelity recording.

I looked twice before, years ago, and they didn’t exist. Do you know of any?

The higher the numbers generally go with lower signal to noise ratios – the quieter the background is supposed to be..technically…

OK. Will look into these. :-) Thanks.
“Creative labs sound blaster” takes me back. I had one of those on my first windows PC, sort of like 30 years ago.

My microphone has a 6.3 mm male stereo plug – will they take that?

I don’t know the difference between 24 and 32 bit in this context.

Price about $460 for sound blaster and $60 for Asus.
It might be worth the extra money.

24 bit audio is stored as a binary word. 32 bit audio can be stored in a couple of ways:

A – The same as 24 bit audio or
B – In floating point format which allows for a much wider dynamic range.

So a 32 bit card may be the same as a 24 bit card or it might be better.

The repair of my amplifier has taken 5 weeks so far – still not back despite numerous phone calls and texts.

So went out today and got adapter plugs straight to computer.

Speaker works & microphone works.
Speaker quality good but adapter falls out of back of computer too easily and sometimes too soft even on maximum volume.
Microphone quality pretty bad (adds hiss and reverb), but at least it does record.

I’ve concluded that if the amplifier doesn’t come back fixed then I’ll have to get an external sound card. Perhaps one that neutrino recommends.
Why external, mainly because the microphone cord is deliberately short to avoid sound distortion (cord too long caused a problem with sound quality last time).

Hold on. Single microphone external sound card only cost in the order of $71.10 (Behringer) to $166.35 (Focusrite). I can easily live with that.

Hold on again. It never occurred to me that the best place to buy an amplifier for recording from microphone would be a pawnbroker. But it would be.
