I’ve just been looking for a thread started in september 2020.

I found it eventually with a lot of scrolling, but there must be an easier way.

So what is the easiest way to find an old thread if you know the rough date and who started it?

Is it possible to jump to a specified date in “view by topic”?

:)

Google came up with about 1300 hits, all headed “Holiday Forum”

But Bing found the thread I wanted as first hit :)

(but being able to jump to a specific date would be good)

If you use advanced search you can put a specific domain url in. like i posted https://tokyo3.org/forums/holiday/ then it will search just this site.

Google seems to have lost it’s main mission or rather changed it’s main mission to advertising.

Surely that’s been it’s main mission for quite some years now.

(Not saying Bing is any better in that respect, but it’s no worse either).

don’t get much advertising. did a search, just for to look, on quantum. had search results and a wiki article on the rightside panel and books on quantum and underneath one ad for quantum underwriters.

I do have all the headers and dates downloaded for this forum so I could probably just present it as a bare searchable list, if that would help.

That would be quite handy as Windows File Explorer does a pretty good job indexing and searching loacal hard drives these days.

Although Bing with a date range should also work well when I have a date range.

Is it possible to jump to a specified date in “view by topic”?

When I wanted the Purdie Flaars thread I Googled for it. Because it was weird spelling, it came up very easily. It wouldn’t work that way without Woodie’s forward thinking.

Just a heads up. I’m pretty sure that this entire forum is hosted on someones server(cb88?), and is only there while that someone keeps paying the rent.

One of the forums(Hilux Surfs) that I have been a part of for 15 years, has just completely disappeared off the net, along with everything on it. If I had known that it was in peril, I would have paid the “rent” and transferred it over to a new server.

Does this forum have a backup if cb88 can’t pay for it anymore?

Has anybody heard from cb88 recently?

Do we know how much it costs to host the forum (wherever it’s hosted)?

I think I’d be happy to help pay part of the rent, if it helped.

I don’t think it’s anybody’s fault. Changes in technology mean there are so many other ways for people to connect. This was an early form of social media. The fact that it’s still going is testament to the fact that it’s a great platform for keeping us all in touch.

Yes and thanks dv, it’s a nicely tabulated resource.

Even better than that – it’s brilliant, thank you!

Does it stay current, or does it need to be refreshed every so often?

Ah I haven’t set up a bot to do that but I’ll refresh it once every couple of weeks or so which should be sufficient.

Thank you!

I asked cb88 for a search function here a few years ago, but he said google indexes the place and that would be better, but google stopped indexing tokyo3,org a while ago.

Thanks dv.

Although I dread to think what that will do to my productivity.

Or yours for that matter.

How many hours in that?

I thought I’d try importing that page into a spreasheet, but I couldn’t find a file-save-as menu.

So I tried:
Ctrl-A
Ctrl-C
Open empty spreadsheet
Ctrl-V

and it worked!

Including all links :)
