i’d guess humans way back have out of necessity needed chew food for their infants, doubtful infants would mind

now imagine you need chew food for your very old parent, and consider the situation reversed that you were the old parent

would you accept food chewed by your partner

where do people draw the line

clearly people aren’t so prejudiced against their own chewed food, and i’d ask what’s the rational basis for that

Mothers would just breastfeed until the child was old enough to eat themselves

Chances there were no old people , in a subsistence existence people would have already died from disease, infection, injury, child birth, organ failure/ appendicitis long before getting so old they’d need their food chewed

imagine some circumstance where an infant required sustenance, milk wasn’t available, dig deep into your nurturing instincts

Its possible but in such situations those unable to produce milk would either need a wet nurse or the child would die. Chewing up food seems the lesser choice. Breastfeeding milk is safe to drink, a food source could be dirty/ problematic

Hunter/gatherers had to overcome many hardships in their lives, but apart from injuries due to their outdoor physical existence and surviving the first few years of life, old age would not be unusual. Due to their small nomadic populations, viral diseases would not be a major problem, although bacterial infections might have been more so.

As you get old, revulsion has to be overcome just to live.
Letting someone dress you, shower you, lift you, chew your food for you, is just part of that.

In eskimo culture, when their teeth could no longer chew the fat so to speak, they walked out and sat in the cold, so they say.
