Back 5 years ago, mid 2017, I underwent a psychiatric examination to prove that I was sane.

I got the report from the doctor today.

“I do not think that D suffers from any formal psychiatric illness; however he is a most unusual fellow, somewhat of a nerd who is extremely intelligent. I am reluctant to label him as suffering form a personality disorder but I certainly considered doing so.”

between the lines, translated, that may mean that down the pub after work over a few beers, in a more informal environment, a more informal diagnosis could be expressed

Most genuinely smart guys suffer from some idiosyncrasy if they are in some important role its wise to oversee their work ( assuming you can understand what they are talking about)

In my limited experience these guys are a wealth of knowledge and can break all kinds of puzzles / problems BUT their conclusions need to evaluated and critiqued – one of then will say this and another will say that.

They were probably clearing a backlog and finally bothered to write something

My general suspicion with psychiatrists is they are nuts themselves ( psychologists as well).

Yes. It is. I had a need to be certified sane 5 years ago. But the doctor wouldn’t release the report to be back then.

I had another need just now, I needed to prove to Neutrino (my non-binary child) that I am sane. This time the doctor did release it.

Since starting this thread I’ve had powerful dreams, about searching for opals deep inside fissures in a cracked planet.

The best psychiatrists have had a period of madness and succeeded in curing their own madness. Like Freud, Jung etc etc.

That makes them qualified for curing other people’s madness.

As for psychologists, there is a huge variation, from the superb to the totally useless.

I make my old psychiatrist rub the lotion on it these days

He wouldn’t take my suggestion to jazz up the report with a few semi colons , tut tut.
