Subject: My new Android Tablet 😁

I’ve got a new toy. šŸ˜Ž

My new Android tablet arrived yesterday. 2 1/2 months mind you it took to get here.

This one: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334269195033?var=543267514053

Firstly, wadda ya reckon specs v/s price?

I’m yet to put my SIM from my other Android phone in it, yet to test the GPS part, and yet to work out if it’s 5G phone, or dual wifi 2.4/5G wifi.

Having said that………………………………………

It tells me that it is not ā€œplay protect certifiedā€ (got to Playstore, menu>settings>about) at the bottom. see below.

Also, it tells me via playstore, that a lot of apps are ā€œYour device isn’t compatible with this versionā€

I’ve put my Google Account on it, so Playstore tells me in my ā€œlibraryā€ all the apps I have on my other Android devices as well.

I’m trying to determine if the above two things are related.; ie: The apps that are ā€œYour device isn’t compatible with this versionā€, are apps that, when built, and put on Playstore, will only install and run of devices that are ā€œplay protect certifiedā€

I cannot find any info to confirm ths.

Playstore search for these ā€œnot compatibleā€ apps DOES NOT find them in the search.

Rather odd.

ABC Iview. Not compatible.
ABC News, Kids etc. Compatible.

SBS Ondemand – compatible.

10Play not compatible
9Now compatible.

Service NSW (old QR Code checkin app etc ) not compatible
Checkin QLD compatible

MyGovID not compatible

Netflix not compatible

Ticketek Compatible
Ticketmaster No compatible

You get the drift………………

I’ve tried a number of Youtube ā€œfixesā€ that don’t work. eg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIQv2RGubJI

QUESTIONS:

Anyone know if, when developing an app for Playstore, that you can specifiy that it will only be compatible on ā€œplay protect certifiedā€ devices?

ANy ideas on fixing this?

Feedback on the Ebay page indicates that some others may have had this problem, but say it’s only minor, and give good feedback.

Devices spec are:

Any help appreciated.

Taa muchly.

In the past, I have been able to find play store apps via a Google search, opening the link will open it in play store with the message it may not run, or some such. But it does allow install from there. Well it did, it’s been a while. Hit or miss in regards to whether it will run or not…

I can find .APKs for some of the relevant apps, but haven’t tried that yet.

Anyway, the new toy is back on the charger for a while.

Just tried that. (with ABC Iview) Nope. Yes it does take me to Playstore, but still the the ā€œnot compatibleā€ and no ā€œinstallā€ button.

Shame, like I said, it’s been a while, used to be able to install that way…

OK. I’ve got ABC Iview (4.81) on it, via what appears to be an app manager called ā€œAptoideā€. ( had to install that first). Seems to work, including Chromecast to the TV.

Any comments on Aptiode?

I’ve used it for a couple of things when Google Play wouldn’t install them, seem OK but I say check to see if comments mention anything untoward

Apparently they have a badge system, if it has a badge it is meant to be okay. But I don’t know…

Initial research tells me it’s fine. But Google don’t like it of course. Direct competitor.

Noted.

NAB internet banking is one of those apps that is ā€œnot compatibleā€ via Playstore.

I’ve got a new toy.

Android phone. Went to a course on how to use it day before yesterday. First lesson.

And Fitbit. Trying it for the first time today.
Can’t figure out how to get the step counter going on Fitbit.
Ditto the GPS.

On Android phone.
Still can’t figure our how to read a QR code.
Or how to pick up the phone when the screen is blank.
Or GPS.

But now I’ve learnt that to stop a computer program the procedure is:
1. touch circle, 2. touch square, 3. swipe up, 4. touch and drag left.
I thought that they couldn’t make it any more difficult, but to make it more difficult,
it is possible to set it up to switch off the square and circle buttons so they can’t be used. Aagh.

How the heck can anyone learn how to use these things without attending a university course on the topic?
They are so damn difficult to use.

Ask a teenager.

Woodie – Maybe also look at Split APIs Installer if need be. It’ll let you install any app you can download.

Mr Bill, Thanks for that. But still doesn’t appear to fix my problem.

If Google Play says ā€œyour device isn’t compatible with this versionā€, then sourcing the .APK from elsewhere, say apkpure or apkmonk etc, then SAI APK installer still won’t install the app either. SAI gives a ā€œparse errorā€ or ā€œinvalid fileā€ etc. SAI will install apps from their .APK file sourced from elsewhere, that Playstore will also install directly with no probs.

I have more luck with Aptoide. I still cant find a .apk for AFL Live from any source, installed via any of these other ā€œinstallerā€ apps that works.

I hope that your seller was scrupulous. There are plenty of fake Android tablets available cheaply on eBay. They can spoof the device specs and that may explain why you are having problems installing modern apps.

You could try something like this…

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mark.fakedevicetest&hl=en_AU&gl=US

…to test if it is a faked device.
