lady bumped her head getting into the car, we had bit of conversation about the sensation that accompanies that

I get similar when jump off something and land hard, the brain blink

what’s its function

and related, when you bump your head do you feel humiliated (disconcerted sensation) in some way, is that only if others are watching or could have seen it

of course sometimes bumping ones head can result in anger too

helps generate aversion to repeating that type of thing

more to it though, is there some relationship between say bumping your head and feeling stupid, and say social blunders, like the embarrassment it generates, or that is felt

hey if bumping the funny bone sends tingles up the arm then surely bumping the brain causing stars isn’t too unbelievable

When I bang my head, it hurts. Often quite a lot. Makes me feel like crying.

No humiliation, no anger.

I can take a knock like a heavyweight boxer but strangely enough often see stars if I jump up from the couch too fast or similar.

You wish you had my low blood pressure to chase the doctors away.

I’m not fond of the fainting effect. I can do that quite well enough without trying to when I stand up from bending over in the garden.

Never felt faint in my life. Just stars.

I’ve been a postural hypotensioner all my life. Or as long as I can remember anyway. I know exactly what a faint feels like as it starts. I learnt not to stand up from a reclining position too fast a lot of years ago, probably in my teens. I’ve not seen stars. I feel very hot and my vision starts to fade out, in a sort of white-out. I have whacked myself on the head with a branch when out wood collecting – no stars, but a lot of blood. There is a huge number of blood vessels in the scalp, part of keeping the brain cool, I think. By convection. I’m also a head sweater, so I guess I keep a very cool brain…

A lady who faints. How frightfully Jane Austen.

I rarely hit the deck. Once you know how to recognize the start, it can be stopped pretty easily by moving more slowly. You can’t be in a rip roaring hurry. And it just becomes normal. I do remember getting off the reclining chair at the dentist once after a long filling procedure and swaying a bit with my first couple of steps.

And here’s the risk. Anger can result in more furious repetition. I’ve known two people to hit their head, get angry, and do the exact same thing again with more force. It’s the second bump not the first that causes serious injury.
