Personally not a rose grower of note, I pay little attention to roses at all but aphids are food for birds.
I have at times mixed full cream milk powder or soapy water to get rid of aphids. Other times I’ve just wiped them off with my fingers or hosed them off with water pressure. all methods seem to work better than rogor with less risk to the health of myself or the environment.
My neighbour was both a mechanic and a rose grower.. his greasy overalls were washed in his own washing machine and all the water was then sprayed onto the roses. He didn’t have any problems with pests and diseases.

If you aren’t eating them then why not inject them with systemic?

I’d be wary of throwing that much Omethoate around as an airborne mist

Nar not offending, not me anyway. I’m just trying to think of something that can work ridding the pests whilst you’re not there

well Coralee where would I find a few 1000 of those ? you for one have seen how many roses I have and the whole front yard is infected and they are now spreading to the back yard as well.

Other than that I think I am pretty much green around here.

I’m not offended by your action, and I can see that you grow some beautiful blooms in your garden, so I credit you with knowing a thing or two about Roses.

Also, I too have looked after gardens that have had their fair share of Roses, including one site that had several thousand Roses, I too have resorted to using Rogor and I know the costs involved and the amounts used. I also know the health implications surrounding Rogor.

However, pest management is pest management, despite the scale of job, and time is an indicative factor. I am glad that you are not simply nuking your blooms for the sake of it and that you are taking some precautions. Your results speak for themselves and you shouldn’t get too upset because I exclaimed “That’s a lot of Rogor!”

Rogor is systemic and you can inject it under the bark. More economic and longer lasting.

just use pyrethrum for a year and nothing when nothing is wrong. you can buy ladybugs from goodbugs corp (?) the mantis, ladybirds and stick insects will come if you stop spraying.

Imidacloprid is a neonicotinoid, which is a class of neuro-active insecticides modeled after nicotine.

…may as well collect the butts off the GPO doorstep

You’re spot on there Thee, this is a great time of year for Aphids and everything else that sucks the goodies out of your flowers, the weather is warming up and plants are on the move and so are the bugs. But so too should be the Good guys and the birds, and while everyone is hungry, a balance should be obtained.

Part of pest management is deciding what is a problem and what isn’t. You know its kinda like the Emergency Services, when they say they’re keeping on top of a bushfire that has burnt out a hayshed, yet they call a State of Emergency when it threatens a home. You have 200 roses and yet you said that you did not need to spray all of them, so how many did you spray? Less than 10%, around 50%? To what extent where the Aphids attacking?

See PM’s post .. one needs to be aware of what one is managing.

Injecting under the bark can be done numerous ways., even just dip a knife in the chemical and make a slice in the bark.. tape it up with budding tape. Using a syringe is another.

The birds and other insects are more important than a few blemishes on flowers so be wary and read instructions carefully. predatory insects and birds may be harmed as may also useful pollinating insects. Low pesticide usage or nil shoould be the aim rather than expecting to be able to have it pristine and insect free(which is a bit of fantasy of the macabre kind).

When I do resort to chemical warfare, Confidor is my preferred choice over Rogor, but both will kill all.

roses are tough.. why even I can grow at least one totally neglected apart from a bit of disbudding and an annual prune.
