Drove home though torrential down pour last night, thankfully it stopped about 30k west of Jericho…found out it you drive too fast through “water over the road” for too long, your tail lights will pop out and your instrument panel will mist over (on the inside)…however the rain’s all good…it’s more like end of January, beginning of February in terms of precipitation episodes, without the heat…we are due for showers today and “proper” rain tomorrow…

I fear that this September rain is just a ruse and that October will herald the real Spring of the North and that rainfall will equate to 0.0mm for the months of October, November and December. The heat will be intolerable and I will be Grumpy!

At Longreach yesterday, the track was similar to Gladstone, by the home straight the horses were all in slo’ mo’ LOL!

they can be so huge! One of the pleasures of taking tiny little planes and helicopters in PNG is grasping the size a thunderstorm can be when you soar around the edges….
After those magnificent photos, dare I mention something so mundane as: it’s freeezing tonight, supposedly 22.5C according to the kitchen scales, but I reckon it’s colder than that…we will have to eat inside again as there is a stiff south easterly blowing…

:)
It is cold this morning, the temp gauge says 19C but the breeze is frightfully stiff and decidedly bracing. Long pants and wooly socks are on, all the windows are open and the house breathes a sigh of relief.
Windows firmly shut here and heating on, it’s 4.1C atm and feels like – 0.7, and there was a frost. I haven’t ventured out to check my amish paste tomato seedlings, but if they have laid down to die I will simply get more seedlings.

well I only needed 1mm to go past 1500mm for the year and this afternoon has delivered with 18mms so far and no wind to speak of. It might rain all night. The gardens sure did need it. The ducks sure did love it. And I was gonna clean the gutters this weekend, well they’re flushed through now. The canetoads (bless ‘em) were running around the driveway with no real purpose, surely they are one of nature’s most stupid of animals?
did someone say wet season? shhhhh…. one afternoon does not make a wet.

The big rain we were told to expect was mainly coastal. It was spitting here all day but didn’t amount to much in the guage. It was more of a nuisance than helpful. We couldn’t do anything outside.

Perhaps. But even so I think we over here need to just adjust to a drier climate. Goodness knows how I coped in summer before we got the greywater system, but I can easily imagine why not many people have them – not only did it cost quite a lot, but the hassles in getting official approval, getting the installation done etc.. it wasn’t easy.

Wow , just had a massive storm with the works thrown in. All the gutters couldn’t cope with it and the chooks ran for their lives! We swiched PC’s off and stood under cover watching it. There’s some flash flooding and the road out front is hazardous for drivers. More to come apparently.

We’ve had drizzle and its cool enough for 3/4 pants today.
Haven’t been out to check the rain gauge yet, cause I’m not moving very well today (stoopid back), but it looks pretty wet outside….at least I won’t have to water the carrots I sowed a couple of days ago (assuming that the ants left some seed for me).
It will also be good for the 200 odd plants put in during the working bee yesterday at the local hall. It’s just misty outside at present so MrS has wandered out to play. He was supposed to be away all weekend canoeing with Scouts, but ended up coming home early, so if the rain holds off he’ll get into the garden. Not sure I will though :(
Oh well there’s always the alphabet book that I need to get finished if it’s going to be printed in time for Christmas!

Just the opposite here. You could almost call this a drought we’re having. Full time watering is on here now. We have been getting regular dark skies and misty rain but it’s not enough to be called rain.
But aren’t all the Dams in the SE full now? And didna you guys have a pretty wet May/June/July?
6 months ago we did get good rain. Great rain in fact. But we’ve had almost nothing since and predicted storms have never eventuated. Bris is doing much better than us.

Haven’t been out to check the rain gauge yet, cause I’m not moving very well today (stoopid back), but it looks pretty wet outside….at least I won’t have to water the carrots I sowed a couple of days ago (assuming that the ants left some seed for me).It will also be good for the 200 odd plants put in during the working bee yesterday at the local hall.
Rest up Anne.

Thanks Pom. Took some Panadol earlier and it’s starting to kick in now….I’m pretty lucky really. Apart from the Glucosamine and Fish Oil tabs I take each day prophylactically, I rarely have to medicate for my back.
Just a few MM’s under the A in tocal.

Perth swelters through its hottest November on record
By Brooke Bannister
Perth is experiencing its first November heatwave in more than 30 years says the Bureau of Meteorology.
When the temperature reached 35.1 degrees today, it became the city’s first November heatwave since 1978 and only the fourth on record.
Duty Forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology, Rabi Rivett, said Perth is experiencing its hottest November on record with the average temperature being 29.5 degrees, 3.3 degrees above average.
It is also Perth’s hottest Spring on record with more than 10 days above 32 degrees.
Today the temperature forecast for Perth is 35 today and a heatwave consists of three consecutive days above 35 degrees.
“We’re almost seeing December-like temperatures this November,” Rabi Rivett told Geoff Hutchison.
It has also been the fourth driest Spring and second driest year ever.
And it has also been the sunniest Spring ever with no sign of rain on the horizon.
The latest current temperature for the city was 36.3 degrees at 12:30pm.
Conditions are expected to cool tomorrow with an expected top of 29 degrees and 26 degrees on Thursday.

Business as usual! =/ I almost find myself thinking it would be nice to have the occasional flood to really soak the soil, but then that seems disrespectful for those actually having to endure floods!
On the upside, I have reached the point where the garden’s not going backwards anymore – I find myself looking at it and thinking, hey, it looks better than this time last year! Still not as good as it looked when we moved in though :D

Technically it only has to be 35 for three days in a row to be a heatwave. I agree, it’s not that hot – I would take three days of 35 over one day of 42. It’s not that it’s been scorchingly hot here, it’s just the relentless sunny weather with not a hint of a cloud that gets depressing.

Yeh, this entire Spring just felt like Summer from the start. I wonder if that means that Autumn will be correspondingly early?? :)
I wonder if we’ll have our new house by next Summer.. more likely to be mid 2012. Can’t wait to get out of our little hotbox house!!

Happy to be here, not there!
Bluddy raining again and the only way I know spring’s nearly over is that all the spring flowering has finished. So wet, and no frosts in weeks n weeks n weeks.

rain! lightning! OMG! We had it all last night…. only 5mm, but seeing as it hasn’t graced my nylex since June, I’m a bit excited!

We had it all too but ours was classed as “dangerous.” Huge lightning and thunder. Some wind but not too destructive, thank heavens. Haven’t been down to check the guage yet.

after the debacle of the beginning of the year… I think Cap’n Bligh will sound the air-raid siren for every clod that appears in the SE over the next 6 months. You won’t be able to fart in Brisneyland without a strong wind warning from the BOM.
speaking of storms, I gave my weather report to the boss yesterday morning.. “it will reach 28 C today and there will be no rain for at least a week.”
Of course, I got some silly looks as everyone in the room said but rain has been predicted. I said, “yes there has but that is only a general weather report that doesn’t specify this part of the general area. There is a chance of a late storm today in our area..”
The boss said, “but you just told me it wasn’t going to rain?”
To which I replied, “the forecast is for the whole Riverina and that is quite a large area. It doesn’t specify, our town. You have to learn to read the charts yourself.”
I woke up in the middle of the night to see the rain miss us by approx 50 km.

true, I do but this was not how I knew. Technology and an ability to read charts helps.

ok… just that rain doesn’t normally wake me up unless it on my roof.

My hearing is exceptional because:
I am almost totally deaf in one ear due to neurallly damaged inner ear.
My balance and perception is indeed, exceptional.
It has indeed perplexed any scientist testing me.
I have even been asked if I am lying.
My reply is, what could I gain by telling fibs?
Those dangerous storms are moving through the SE again this arv. We look safe so far.

A severe storm approaching us now. Just because I have used round up on the gravel drive an hour ago. Buggadammit.

It split and we never got any of the severity. Lovely rain though.
