A breakthrough discovery in carbon capture conversion for ethylene production

A team of researchers led by Meenesh Singh at University of Illinois Chicago has discovered a way to convert 100% of carbon dioxide captured from industrial exhaust into ethylene, a key building block for plastic products.

Why do we need more plastic products?

Is the product recyclable?

A good question.
Another; Is the product manufacturable and recyclable without creating emissions or pollutants?

They do say they are using solar.

Here’s a solar powered polymer factory, self repairing and self replicating too¡

Not recyclable. And in a few decades ends up as 100% atmospheric CO2 again.

By “not recyclable”, I mean that trees are incapable of using soil carbon to fuel new growth. As a carbon sink they are nowhere near as good as plastic, which is an actual sink of carbon.

> Their system uses electrolysis to transform captured carbon dioxide gas into high purity ethylene, with other carbon-based fuels and oxygen as byproducts.

Uses a ridiculously large amount of electricity.
