I’ll be cheering on the Swannies, but I think the engraver can already start writing Geelong’s name on the cup.
Heart says Swans.
Brain says Cats.

The original Swannies song is actually the Notre Dame University Victory March (college football) from the US with Swannies words.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH0zgyaHKg0 and go to about 8 mins in.
Let’s see ‘em do that at the MCG!!!
Decided I’ll watch the game myself, for the first time in my life.
But I’ll definitely need some beer, Twisties etc. Luckily the Ross bro-in-law can drive me to the shops ‘cos he’ll be here in half an hour or so to borrow my vacuum cleaner.
Most footy club songs are not originals.
eg. Brisbane Lions is the French national anthem. (La Marseillaise). Geelong is The Toreador Song from Bizet’s opera Carmen. Hawthorn is Yankee Doodle Dandy.
A list is here:

The US loves its marching bands.

Pies. Pies. Ya gotta have pies. And sauce.
But I understand there’ll be no pies at the MCG today.
Swannies beat ‘em last week!!!

There’s just two places in Aus you can buy the rolls now. One in Adelaide and one in Melbourne. And just one place in the world that makes them new. (in New York State somewhere). They had it in stock. They used to make them in Sydney up till the early 70s I think. The machine still exists somewhere I believe.
How they are made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3FTaGwfXPM 7 mins 44 secs.
I have beer, pies and snacks.

Noted, I’ll get a dozen party pies.

Delta looked pretty hot too.
The Swans have entered the stadium nicely enough, and now here come the Cats.
They look more brutal and determined.
I suppose I should open a beer. But it feels waaaaaay to early for that.
Party pies and sausage rolls are unfrozen and in the oven.

On my second pint this end.
Surely it’s illegal to watch an AFL GF without drinking beer.

Three, they’re only little. And that’s my lunch.
A Cat kicked a backwards goal, first of the match.
Swans now have a goal as well.
Apparently these games go for hours on end.

Around 3 hours in total, but only around 2 hours of actual playing time, in between the breaks.

At least there are scores in this game. Unlike like another code I could mention.
That’s not exactly true, the other code you could mention count the number of fake injuries as scores, then they toss a coin at the end to decide who wins.

OTOH they have goalkeepers, so the low scores are not through lack of trying.

not having a crossbar makes a difference too. There is no over the top of goals.

There is in International Rules.
A goal (worth six points) is scored when the ball is kicked or knocked (not handpassed) into the net.
An over (three points) is scored when the ball goes over the crossbar but between the goal posts and is worth three points.
A behind (one point) is scored when the ball is kicked or directed between the goal and point posts.
If the ball bounces back into play after hitting any of the four posts or the crossbar, play-on is called. A goalkeeper protects the goal area.
A Swan misses an easy goal. I could play better than that.

Two party pies and one-and-a-half party sausage rolls each here, also for lunch.
Beef & mushroom pie going in oven now. Should be ready for eating at half time.
I know nothing about this game but it’s clear that the Swans are being outplayed.

Yeah. Grand finals are often awful one-sided affairs. This is kind of what I was expecting TBH.
What time does Sydney start playing?
half time, Geelong lead by 36.
Time for pie and unpopular cola.
Half time. Hard to imagine the Swans reinventing themselves for the second half.
I sincerely hop that Woodie is not suffering from apoplexy.

He was expecting a victory for the Other Side, so is probably not too perturbed.
Pies was delicious. But a bit too hot in the middle, I should have let it cool for a bit longer. Burnt my lip on a big slice of mushroom and hot gravy, leading to half pie being dropped on the plate. After that I dispensed with footy pie etiquette and et the rest with knife and fork.

That should be: Pie = singular.

it was a proper sized pie, not a party pie.

Although if it’s a heavy enough slaughter, it’ll be “Swannies? Never heard of them.”

I think it is all over. Just the margin for the office sweep now.
Might be time to sit outside in the sunshine and enjoy a cold beer.

It’s making that low-scoring code with the lottery at the end look quite gripping in comparison.

I went through and did my motions when I get out of bed this morning.

The Swannies are leaving it a bit late for their surprise comeback.
Whole Geelong team are lining up to score goal after goal, including their elderly skipper who’s about to retire.
