EV utes set to be cheaper than ICE equivalents

Late last month, the Chinese-owned car maker LDV announced it was shipping Australia’s first battery electric ute.

Ryan Thomas, fleet manager for the NSW and ACT transmission network operator Transgrid, has already ordered a batch of the LDV eT60 electric utes, due to arrive in December.

When they’re cheaper and have the same range, I’ll buy one.

The company that I work for has a number of LDV utes and I drove one (from brand new) for two years as my company car. They look good on paper with all the bells and whistles but they are unrefined hunks of junk. Terrible to drive, difficult to park and the cameras freeze at inopportune moments. The radio volume gets stuck at high levels, they have terrible fuel economy and you had better start praying to the lord herself if you ever need a spare part. One of the work LDV utes has been suffering a faulty diesel injector for over 6 months while we wait for the part to arrive from China. I wouldn’t expect their electric version to be any better.

My current company car is a Toyota Corolla Hybrid and it is refined luxury compared to the LDV.

So as yousall know we’ve not ever torched an ICEV nor an EV so we wouldn’t know fuck all but

https://www.vox.com/the-highlight/2023/1/17/23470878/tesla-fires-evs-florida-hurricane-batteries-lithium-ion

EVs catch fire far less often than gas-powered cars, but firefighters still need to adapt.

“People have probably seen vehicles burning on the side of the road at one point or another,” Smith, the division chief at the Austin Fire Department, recalled. “Just imagine that magnified a couple times because of all the fuel load from the battery pack itself. The fact that it won’t go out immediately just makes it a little more spectacular to watch.”

The Austin crash led to a lot of headlines, but EV fires are relatively rare. Smith said his department has seen just a handful of EV fires. While the US government doesn’t track the number of EV fires, specifically, Tesla’s reported numbers are far lower than the rate for highway fires overall, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) told Vox. The overwhelming majority of car fires are caused by traditional internal combustion vehicles. (This makes sense, in part because these vehicles carry highly flammable liquids like gasoline in their tanks, and, as their name implies, their engines work by igniting that fuel.)

is this all legit‘¿

Bit rude to charge extra for metallic paint at that price…
