You could really mess with that by feeding the chooks different amounts of green in their diets. I cracked a really orange egg this afternoon to brush the top of the scones. If you reduce the green you can lighten off their yolks a lot to lemon yellow.

Sometimes. Despite being a “dry heat” we also get humidity from the swamp coolers and the monsoonal overflows (apparently the monsoon season has been a good one this year). The cockroaches travel in from other places with all the new arrivals wanting dry heat and no cockroaches.

The berthing space is really too small, especially for an exposed position like that.
It looks like it would have been difficult to secure the boat so as to allow for the effects of wind and rough sea and rise and fall of the tide so as to avoid damage like this.
But, you do have to check on your boat when it blows up rough.

Had a Toyota that had reverse right next to first gear, just like that. Always the chance of putting it into reverse when you meant first and vice versa.
Eventually, i installed a little red light, wired to the reversing lights, so that when it was put into reverse, you had visual notification of it.

The modern cars, i.e ones younger than about 40 years, almost invariably have the reverse selection such that you either have to lift or push the gearstick a bit to get it to go into reverse. On the gearbox in my Fraser I aim the gearstick towards first gear and push it down to get reverse. There’s a bit of a knack to do it as we shortened the gearstick to just over a 1/3 of what it was in the original car (Toyota Altezza) and I sit a lot lower in the Fraser compared to the Altezza so I have to push a little harder.

A mate of mine had a Datsun 200SX with the ‘special’ 5-speed gearbox.
That meant that 1st gear was where 2nd gear was in 99.99999% of other gearboxes and reverse was where 1st usually is. He said that on several occasions before the muscle memory thing really kicked in, he nearly backed into cars when the traffic lights turned green.

Press the accelerator & the revs instantly rise. Then the speed increases to match the revs.

I’d LOVE to do that! Spending a decade flying airliners didn’t completely eliminate the cowboy pilot in me. :)
This one might be easier for you. Jump into the seat, just like old times. Retardant drop at 2min 29 sec mark.

Yep.

Yes. Growing up as a child we had an old record player that could go as slow as 16 rpm or as fast as 78. We also had a children’s record of some singing piglets that was done in exactly the same way as the Chipmunks stuff. We used to stick it on and slow it down to 16 rpm and it was just some ordinary people singing along slowly.
It was amusing when I was about 8.

It’s a conundrum, all right.
In the series, it’s stated that the island is 1,000 miles from civilisation.
Even if converted from nautical miles (1,000) to statute miles that’s still 868 miles.
If they left port and opened the throttle wide and went in a straight line, it would still take them at least 72 hours to get to the island (assuming that their departure port is the nearest point of ‘civilisation’ to the island).
‘Three-hour tour’, my arse.

That’s the point, it was meant to be a three hour trip but it ended up being longer due to the storm. It doesn’t say it took them three hours to get to the island…

They don’t say that it took them three hours. They set out for a three hour tour. The storm may have changed their travel time considerably.

The theme song did say that.
But, averaging the drift speeds of the Californian current and the Northern Equatorial current at 50cm per second, it would have taken them at least 32 days to drift the 1,000 miles to the island, and somehow not be spotted by any search or by any passing vessels, and they would have been in pretty poor physical shape when they got there..

Well not all the beaches in Hawaii are black
The island was volcanic
‘When a volcano threatens to erupt and destroy the island in “Operation: Steam Heat,” the Professor theorizes that blowing it up will solve all of their problems. What, you mean you can’t make nitroglycerine with random items found around your house? Well, I’m just embarrassed for you. All it takes is sulfuric acid from the crystallized copper found in caves, glycerol from papaya seeds, and potassium nitrate from the rocks at the lagoon. Get on it.’

You would need a lid for your dwelling for basic sound and temperature insulation.
And while a flat lid suitable for recreational activities would be best suited, a traditional roof could be useful if there were any plans of microclimate or artificial rain for cleaning.
But as a design, the whole thing leaves a lot to be desired.

Are you there? Did I scare you off? I’m not a bad guy and I always treat ladies the best. You should give me a chance.
Mon, 8:56 PM
Typical stuck up bitch! You think you are too good for me? Fuck you slut you aren’t worth my time.
Mon, 9:03 PM
You there?
Mon, 11:16 PM
Look I just want one date. You pick the place and it will be my
treat. Sound good? I will even pick you up.
Mon, 11:17 PM

Mon, 11:25 PM
What do I have to do to get you to talk to me? I am one of the best guys out there and you are perfect for me I can tell. You have such a great curvy small and cute body and your hair is fluffy and feathered like an angels wings and so long it must reach clear down to your ass. Those green eyes of yours are so gorgeous and tempting.
Mon, 11:30 PM
I just want you to start by talking to me please.
Mon, 11:32 PM
You are being so mean to me and I don’t deserve it. I need you I want you bad.
Mon, 11.33 PM
Have a heart please. You are too lovely to be this mean to me.a
Mon, 11:34 PM
You are missing out on a once a lifetime opportunity. I could make you so happy.
Mon, 11:37 PM
WHY WON’T YOU GIVE US A CHANCE?
Mon, 11:40 PM
ANSWER ME GODDAM YOU!!!!!!!!
Mon, 11:48 PM
Sir this is no longer a pleasant business related conversation. Our business concluded last night when I delivered your order. I will be turning this over to Doordash and letting them and letting them handle it. Please get some clearly needed help if you think this is the correct way to text anyone.
11:04 AM
FUCK YOU SKANK.
11:56 AM
All you bitches think you are the same to good for me sluts that can’t take into consideration my feelings and give me a chance.
11:58 AM
Nobody needs you filthy witches messing up the world. Crawl back in your filthy whore hole and leave me alone. You’re pathetic. Why don’t you just kill yourself? Be better for everyone else.
12:00 PM
Maybe next time I should knock you out drag you into my place and take what I want from you. What could you even do to stop me? The answer is not a damn thing. You are way to tiny to stop me.
12:03 PM
What nothing else to say? Got a dick in you mouth right now
don’t you? That’s all skanks like you are even good for know your place bitch on your knees!
12:24 PM
Listen Markus C you have major issues. You made a Doordash order last night you tipped average so I took the offer and delivered your order. When I delivered it the instructions said leave at door. I went to leave it at the door and take the pic that Doordash requires and you jerked open the door and stared at me very angrily. I pointed at the order and said “Your order is right there. Was just taking a pic for Doordash.” You started to come toward me and I said “Well better be on my way before ADT calls 911. See you later.” Then you snatched up the bag and went back in your apartment slamming the door. I was terrified as you already gave off really dangerous vibes these texts confirm it. Seriously get help. I’m going to be blocking you and ditching this number for another VOIP number soon as well as reporting you to the police here in addition to Doordash, This is my last message.

Yes, it’s quite handy.
Win 10 is 64 bit. Vista is 32 bit.
Some 32 bit things will not open on the 64 bit machine but are OK on the Vista.
I can put them on a stick & transfer them to Win 10 with no problems.

I was still a 123 fanboy in 2000 when I set up my own business, so I set up timesheet and invoicing spreadsheets in 123, and it’s easier to just keep using them than trying to convert them to Excel.

TLDR.

Kingy said:
He does hold some similarity to the DJT in this regard.
Trump was born with an unobtainium spoon in his mouth and fucked up throughout his whole business career but was kept afloat by 400 million dollars worth of gifts from his parents. Even though he held the titles of CEO he was never in a position where he had to be held to scrutiny like a normal CEO answering to shareholders or a board of directors, so apart from people in his inner circle no one knew he was a complete moron who threw a fortune away and had to resort to reality TV.
He could probably have gone to his grave with the façade of competence, at least to most of the population, if he’d never become president. Suddenly he actually has to do things: read complex documents, make important decisions, answer questions, manage his relationships with Congress and the Republican Party and the public service and the press… he literally can’t do any of these things right and there isn’t any way to cover it up.
If Musk had just focused on the transport and space travel companies that were founded by smart people and were still being run mostly by those people, who appreciated the things that he did provide enough to overlook the trouble he caused, he might have lived his life out as a well-regarded entrepreneur who changed the world for the better. I don’t know what bee in his bonnet made him think it was a good idea to bet 40 B notes on someone else’s social media company, that had never turned a profit, then sack most of the key staff.

The retailers have more-or-less successfully foisted Halloween on us, and also the idea of ‘Black Friday’.
Yet people don’t believe that they could similarly impose ‘Thanksgiving ‘ on us as an additional marketing opportunity.
It may not arrive in precisely the same form or under the same title as ‘Thanksgiving’, but you can safely bet your last dollar that they’re enamoured of the concept of an additional pre-Christmas spending-festival, and that they’re trying to find a way to introduce one.

As a native speaker, as far as i know there is not. The closest Turkish proverb to your definition is that: “ağaca balta vurmuşlar, ‘sapı bendendir’ demiş”
It translates to “an axe was swung to the tree. “Its handle is made of my body” said the tree”
It is used for explaining that bad intentions and betrayal can come even from the closest / dearest.

It’s really weird how some people consider that Hitler was ‘not so bad’, considering their racial/ethnic situation.
There’s a lot of positivity towards Hitler and Nazism in India. Given India’s own history of discrimination and segregation on religious, ethnic, and social bases, that may not be such a surprise. But that’s to ignore the fact that, had the Nazis won, then they would have wanted nothing to do with Indian people, or perhaps even wanted to ‘do something about them’, eventually.
Idiots like Kanye West are the same. All he’s done is read the part where it says ‘Nazis don’t like Jews’ and he’s thought ‘hey, i don’t like Jews, either, these guys sound ok!’
He either didn’t turn the page and read about what other people the Nazis didn’t/don’t like, or else he’s convinced himself that they’d make an exception for ‘celebrities’ like him.

In the case of India there was hatred towards the British colonial administration. It’s a case if the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Simple logic even if it does not always work out that way.

Yes, there is, or was, undoubtedly a proportion of that in it.
Opinion may be divided on that, too, however.
I recall hearing a Indian chap of senior years say some years back, “there are still times in India when we do so miss the British”.

Maarva Andor: My name is Maarva Carassi Andor. I’m honored to stand before you. I’m honored to be a Daughter of Ferrix, and honored to be worthy of the stone. Strange, I… feel as if I can see it. I was six, I think, first time I touched a funerary stone. Heard our music, felt our history. Holding my sister’s hand as we walked all the way from Fountain Square. Where you stand now, I’ve been more times than I can remember. I always wanted to be lifted.
I was always eager, always waiting to be inspired. I remember every time it happened, every time the dead lifted me… With their truth. And now I’m dead. And I yearn to lift you. Not because I want to shine or even be remembered. It’s because I want you to go on. I want Ferrix to continue. In my waning hours, that’s what comforts me most.
But I fear for you. We’ve been sleeping. We’ve had each other, and Ferrix, our work, our days. We had each other, and they left us alone. We kept the trade lanes open, and they left us alone. We took their money and ignored them, we kept their engines churning, and the moment they pulled away, we forgot them. Because we had each other. We had Ferrix. But we were sleeping. I’ve been sleeping. And I’ve been turning away from the truth I wanted not to face. There is a wound that won’t heal at the center of the galaxy.
There is a darkness reaching like rust into everything around us. We let it grow, and now it’s here. It’s here, and it’s not visiting anymore. It wants to stay. The Empire is a disease that thrives in darkness, it is never more alive than when we sleep. It’s easy for the dead to tell you to fight, and maybe it’s true, maybe fighting is useless. Perhaps it’s too late. But I’ll tell you this… If I could do it again, I’d wake up early and be fighting these b*stards from the start. Fight the Empire!
fuck the empire is what she said. apparently.

That is the way things are done these days.
They have a fixed budget – they can tell the complete story with half the budget per episode, or create 8 excellent episodes and a guarantee of a second season.
Even with a decent budget, a mostly completed story arc leaves nowhere to go for the second season – Counterpart, Mr Robot, Mr Mercedes, Westworld, Fargo, American Gods, Preacher etc. all struggled with a second season.

It’s pretty weird to think that, in the middle of 20th century, while people were going into space at almost every chime of the clock, at school we were:
using nib pens and inkwells like so many junior Bob Cratchetts
mixing up ink from a powdered form
marking the various items on the school day by someone standing on a verandah ringing a hand-held bell
being warmed in winter by a coal-fuelled stove in the corner of the classroom
sitting at desks just about identical to these (ours were desks for two, with a central inkwell):
I started school with a slate and chalk and a rag.
A RAG???
Bloody looxury.

And the rag had to double as the school uniform.
You tell that to young people today…

I was talking with the barber the other day. He’s of a similar vintage to me.
Talking about schooling, commented on how, in NSW, it was pencils-only up to and including 3rd grade. In 4th grade, we were obliged to use nib pens with inkwells for the whole year. Ball-point pens were for 5th and 6th grade.
He said that, in Qld, and also at about 3rd grade, they used slates and chalk, although he believes that his was the last year that did so.
i was never ink monitor.

my mother used to get so angry about ladders in my stockings and yet the seating snagged stockings so very effectively.
didn’t use pen and ink at primary, nor slate. BiC ballpoints and an exercise book. Radiators from a central oil or gas heater, can’t recall which. Don’t remember anyone being caned. Primary was a small village school. no secondary in town.

Harry Potter and the brothers Karamazov
Back in the days of pen and ink my left handedness caused great schmears across the page. I do not know why this is no longer a problem.

Caning was for boys only.
It was like going to prison in the Foreign Legion. Happened to everyone sooner or later. Perhaps something out of place with someone who never had it happen.

Happened so often that there was a line of boys at the pepper trees at the end of lunch, rubbing their hands with it in the belief it took some of the sting out.

Ours was: if you had an appointed time for it, you sat on your hand for as long as you could so as to induce numbness in the extremity.

Those were the days.. made men out of us.. angry ones.
And the teachers were selected for their psychopathic/sadistic tendencies.

Okay
I think 11,000 years is too early. Indigenous art has had narratives for more than 60,000.
