That comment is placed at about 8 billion years ago. It’s a bit out of date, given that galaxies can now be seen at greater distances than quasars, at more than 13.4 billion years ago.

Oh, so that’s why we can’t see distant galaxies on this map. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey can only see bright nearby galaxies. Which is not at all bad for the tiny ground-based telescope that it was created with, at Apache Point.
